28: Chapter 28 Cat Territory Swamp_1
28 -28 Cat Territory Swamp_1
Lin Xue continued her search along the corridor and quickly found more arrow holes.
On the walls, on the floor, on the windows – they were scattered everywhere.
Judging by their condition, it appeared the hooded figure had shot a volley of arrows while pursuing someone.
But what Lin Xue found strange was that, despite the numerous arrow holes, she didn’t find a single arrow?
This didn’t make any sense!
The hooded figure had only had a few minutes between making a move and Little Sea and the others going upstairs.
During such a short time, how could the hooded figure, who was also busy hunting ‘the ghost,’ have managed to get rid of all the traces of the arrows…
unless, the arrows could disappear without needing to be retrieved?
Lin Xue quickly dismissed this idea.
It was absurd.
As far as she knew, even the most cutting-edge materials lab hadn’t been able to create a material that could self-dissolve and withstand the impact of an arrow.
After a thorough investigation, Lin Xue returned once again to the mouth of the staircase and suddenly froze.
Under the reflection of a distant spotlight, she noticed something reflecting a bit of light on the ground!
Lin Xue went closer and dug around the area.
After brushing away a pile of debris in the corner, she found a small plastic tag the size of a thumbnail.
‘Cat Teaser Wand ¥3.00′
The tag seemed to be from a supermarket or a shop.
From the evidence at the scene, Lin Xue guessed that the hooded figure had engaged in a fight here and this tag had probably fallen off during the scuffle.
At the edge of the label, there was a strand of hair that seemed to belong to some animal.
“This length and texture, it should be cat hair…
black on top and white below…
A British Shorthair?”
Reliant on her extensive knowledge of zoology, Lin Xue quickly identified the source of the hair.
A pet supply tag, a British Shorthair cat, and an animal tranquilizer dart…
These were all the clues to be found at the scene.
However, a place where all three of these items could be found was becoming quite apparent.
Lin Xue took out her mobile phone and dialed a number.
“Miss?
The car is ready, would you like us to pick you up immediately?” A female voice came from the phone.
“Bring the car over, I’m about to leave…
Also, help me look up something.”
“What?”
“I need data on all the pet shops in K city!”
…
Mu You was unaware that someone was investigating his traces.
After leaving the timber mill, he had headed towards the road hoping to hail a cab home.
But given the early hour and the remote location, finding a cab was as likely as winning the lottery.
After waiting for a while without seeing a single tail light, Mu You decided to jog home instead.
Twenty kilometers was unthinkable for him in the past.
Now, however, it only took him three hours and he still had plenty of energy left.
By the time he returned to the pet shop, it was 4 a.m.
Mu You took a shower and then opened the fridge to take out a cold cola.
After chugging half the bottle, he finally managed to cool down his overheated body.
By now, the British Shorthair cat had made its way out of the backpack.
It was pacing around the room curiously, inspecting its future home.
“So this is your house?”
“It’s quite spacious…”
“I didn’t expect you to have so many familiars, are you a familiar dealer?”
“These familiars are too weak.
I can beat them all with one swipe of my paw!”
…
The American Shorthair kept on blabbering while rubbing itself against every corner of the room, marking its own scent.
The small animals in their cages seemed a little scared of the American Shorthair, and they all shrank into corners, not daring to move when they saw it approach.
“Speaking of which, I haven’t introduced myself yet.”
Mu You stared curiously at the animals’ reactions and then turned to the American Shorthair: “I am Mu You, the owner of this pet shop.
What’s your name?”
The American Shorthair paused from its inspection and jumped onto the table, shaking its tail: “My name is Chris·Fuya·Swenburn·Joseph…Ferguson·Kane·Sphinx.”
The American Shorthair spouted off a lengthy string of at least thirteen names, leaving Mu You bamboozled.
“Say what?” Mu You asked, baffled.
He just wanted a simple name, but who knew it would lead to such a long string of nonsense.
“My name is Chris·Fuya·Swenburn…”
The American Shorthair was not at all deterred by the prospect of repeating everything again, but Mu You quickly held up a hand to halt it: “Stop!”
“Do all you creatures in the Star Spirit World have such long names?” Mu You asked, looking at the creature with a strange expression.
“The first seven names belong to my master and their lineage.
The next eight belong to my breed and the last one is my name.
My master usually calls me ‘Sphinx’!” said the American Shorthair.
“Still too long…”
Mu You shook his head, looking down at the empty bottle of beverage in his hand, “From now on, you’re named ‘Cola’!”
“Cola…What’s that?”
“Cola, also known as ‘happy water,’ is a delicacy that no one can refuse,” Mu You answered.
“Meow!
Speaking of delicacies, where’s my food?
Get it ready now, I’m starving!” Cola cried with incessant intensity.
Mu You reluctantly stood up and walked to the storage cupboard.
He took out a bag of cat food that was half consumed, found an empty food bowl from before and poured a generous portion of cat food into it: “Here you go.
Bon appétit!”
Cola approached good-heartedly, circled the food bowl a few times, and quickly lifted its head in discontent: “So I’m supposed to eat this?
How am I supposed to swallow such dry stuff?”
“Then what do you want to eat?”
“I want to eat snotworms!”
“Damn, you have a heavy taste, you actually eat snot?” Mu You gave Cola a disgusted look.
“I didn’t say snot, but snotworm!
Snotworm is a kind of worm that’s unique to the forests of the Star Spirit World.
It’s nutritious, smooth, palatable and even helps increase magic power, it’s the perfect feed for magical pets!” Cola was agitated, and swung its tail, “In the Star Spirit World, this was what I ate growing up.
Low-grade feed like this will give me diarrhea!”
“As you said, those worms are unique to the Star Spirit World.
This is Earth, where am I supposed to find those for you?” Mu You rolled his eyes and pushed the bowl of cat food towards Cola: “Anyways, this is the only food I have here.
The question is, will you eat it or not?”
“I won’t eat!”
Cola also jumped up, defiant: “I would rather starve to death than touch even a morsel of such disgusting feed!”
“Then be hungry!”
Mu You shrugged, didn’t bother with Cola and headed upstairs to sleep.
Being a pet shop owner, he knew only too well that you can’t indulge pets in picky eating habits.
If a pet has this problem, it needs treatment right away!
“By the way, the litter box is over there.
Do your business only in there.
And make sure not to bully the other small creatures or if any of them are missing from the cage tomorrow morning, I’ll cook you!” As he was going in, Mu You turned around to send a friendly ‘reminder’ just before getting inside his room.
“Tch, jerk!
That’s not what you said when you brought me here…”
Only after watching Mu You disappear upstairs did Cola start groaning bitterly, venting its frustration.
Turning back to the food bowl, which was full of dark crispy crumbs, Cola swallowed and felt its mouth starting to water uncontrollably.
It quickly assured itself: “No way, I am Sphinx, a cat of great importance.
How could I eat such a thing…but it smells so good, why is it so fragrant…I really want to eat it…”
Feeling the intense hunger raging in its belly, Cola finally gave in.
It reached out its paw, scooped out a piece of cat food from the bowl, and gave it a tentative lick.
“Meow?” Cola’s eyes momentarily widened.
Next was a crazy, ravenous gobbling.
“Meow, this is so delicious meow, how can there be something so tasty…”
