65 -65: The Power of the Fool’s Card_1
“So this thing wants to kill us!” Mu You’s face looks somewhat unsightly.
Just before, the influence had almost caused Cola to yank out the mandrake plant and almost made both of them faint right on this desolate mountain teeming with demons.
And now, he himself was influenced, unknowingly walking into this place that seemed like a spider’s nest.
Looking at the animal skeletons surrounding them, he didn’t doubt the dangerous degree of this place at all.
“Well, let’s just get out of here first…” Mu You called out to Cola, ready to leave.
“We should have left a long time ago, this place is too disgusting meow!” Complained Cola.
A man and a cat started to retreat in the opposite direction.
However, just as they had taken a few steps, something hard under Mu You’s foot suddenly caught his attention, the sensation distinctly noticeable on the soft layer of mucus.
Mu You paused, took a twig from a nearby tree, and probed the mucus under his foot.
But the scene revealed below made him catch his breath.
Buried underneath this layer of mucus were two human skeletons!
And they had obviously died not long ago, because there were still some undigested flesh and blood on the ribs.
Speaking of which, if these two people were eaten by a big spider monster, how did these intact bones get left behind?
Continuing to dig around, he found two tattered windbreakers beneath the skeletons.
Mu You recognized them.
The two law enforcement officers they encountered outside were wearing these kind of clothes.
The windbreakers were special, this corrosive mucus couldn’t dissolve it completely, at least the positions of the two pockets were still basically intact.
Mu You searched the clothes and found four items in the pockets: a palm-sized disc device, a folded piece of paper, a pistol shooting blanks along with two intact clips, and a walkie-talkie.
Mu You kept the pistol and clips, and picked up the walkie-talkie first.
Upon turning on the power, a looped instruction was immediately broadcasted from the walkie-talkie.
“Falcon, Falcon, please respond if you receive this message!
Mission abort!
Repeat, mission abort!
This location has been identified as an A-level anomaly point, please evacuate immediately!
If you can’t move, hide immediately…
Rescue team is being organized, they will arrive very soon, hold on!
Falcon, Falcon, please respond if you receive this message…”
“A-level anomaly point?”
Mu You was taken aback.
He wasn’t very clear about the division of danger levels for anomalies as defined by the Bureau, but from the tone and urgency of the broadcast, he could tell that it must be a very high level of danger.
Turning off the power to the walkie-talkie, Mu You opened up the paper and realized it was a manual, corresponding to the circular disc device.
[Abnormal Creature Detector (Test Version) : This device is set based on the sonar sensing of the surrounding magical power concentration, upon activation it automatically scans the locations of all abnormal creatures in the vicinity, red represents aggressive creatures, green represents gentle creatures.
As it’s currently a test version, it can only detect creatures that have been on Earth for a short period of time and have not yet been assimilated, detection results are not guaranteed to be fully accurate, users are advised to use this as a…

“They made a detector out of it?”
Mu You was somewhat surprised.
The national departments had made quick progress in studying the Magic World.
Only two years after the appearance of the game, they had developed this professional instrument specifically for magical creatures.
One could only say, never underestimate the adaptability of human beings!
Mu You remarked, then picked up the circular instrument, and following the instructions in the manual, turned it on.
After a flurry of snowy ripples flashed on the screen, a spotted map with a red background quickly popped up, but aside from a larger white light spot in the center, there were no other flashing lights around.
“What’s going on?
There are no monsters around?”
Mu You was a bit befuddled.
Two players had just died under his feet, their bodies not yet cold, by all rights there should be at least one spider boss around, so why couldn’t it detect anything?
Mu You looked at the manual again: red represents aggressive creatures, green represents gentle creatures, that’s right!
“Is this thing broken?”
Mu You pressed the ‘refresh’ button on the instrument several times, but there was no change on the dial.
“Who came up with this design, if the background is red, how can you see a red dot?”
Mu You couldn’t help but complain.
However, as soon as the words left his mouth, he realized something.
Wait a minute…
The entire background is red?
A terrifying thought suddenly flashed through his mind.
Could it be…
“Pop!”
Not far from his foot, a sound of a soap bubble shattering echoed.
Mu You looked down and saw a spider, the size of a finger pad, hatching from a spider egg embedded in the fleshy wall.
As soon as it appeared, it started waving its pincers, rustling towards Mu You’s feet.
But before it could get close, it was promptly squished by Cola’s swift paw.
“Pop, pop, pop…”
But this smash seemed to have triggered a chain reaction.
Suddenly, there was a rapid succession of shattering sounds around them, sounding just like firecrackers.
Numerous spiders emerged from the crevices in the fleshy walls, each one no bigger than the size of a finger pad, but making up for it with their sheer numbers.
They densely filled the surrounding ground, moving forward in a torrent towards Mu You and Cola.
“Damn it!”
Mu You was on the edge of succumbing to his agoraphobia.
He finally understood why the skeletons of the two men were so intact earlier – they weren’t eaten by some giant spider, but were devoured completely by numerous little spiders underneath the land!
“Too many meow, can’t kill them all!”
Creating illusions with a wave of his paw, Cola relentlessly crushed the spiders approaching him.
Despite his efforts, the sheer number of spiders was simply too overwhelming.
“Don’t bother crushing them, run!”
As the influx of spiders was impending, Mu You swept Cola off his feet, swung his Magic Wand, and teleported out of there.
Moments after their departure, the spot they had stood was instantly submerged by the spider horde.
The direction quickly shifted, with the horde converging on their landing spot like a swarm of locusts.
Mu You, clutching Cola, hastily retreated.
Along the way, more spiders burrowed out from the flesh-walls, merging into the spider horde behind them, forming a serpentine river of spiders.
“Cola, use your illusion technique to lead them away!” Mu You shouted.
Cola obeyed, his eyes fixed on the distant spider horde as he conjured an illusion.
“Meow!
It’s no use!”
“What?”
“It seems like someone is directing them, my illusion is ineffective on them!”
“There’s a commander?” Mu You despaired.
“Oh!
Now I remember!
It’s a Mother-Feeder Spider!”
“What’s a Mother-Feeder Spider?”
“My master once said, in the forest, there’s a type of Mother-Feeder Spider that ceaselessly lays eggs.
As long as it absorbs enough energy, it can produces tens of thousands of eggs in a day!
And it can also control the little spiders’ movements to a certain extent.”
Cola exclaimed, “These newborn little spiders are only at Level 0, they even lack a sense of hearing.
However, they grow quickly.
Without restrictions, they can quickly occupy an entire forest.
Luckily, they have a large appetite.
If they can’t find food, they’ll turn on each other, devouring one another.
This is the only thing that prevents them from over-breeding.”
“Only at Level 0, so killing them won’t yield experience?”
Mu You silently listened to Cola’s explanation, not having enough time to mull over it.
The little spiders may be low-leveled, their movements were incredibly swift, rapidly shrinking the distance between him and them.
Mu You had no choice but to cast Phantom Shifting again, using the distance to quickly withdraw his phone, switch to the game interface, open the character panel, and sequentially assigned four agility points to his free attributes.
This action resulted in a clear increase in speed, finally making him faster than the spider horde.
“Assign the rest to Intelligence!”
Mu You quickly made the decision.
Phantom Shifting took up a lot of magic, he urgently needed to increase his Intelligence Value to raise his magical limit.
He still had eleven points left, Mu You rapidly assigned points to Intelligence.
Just as he was about to assign the eighth point, a spider zoomed towards his head.
This time, it was a familiar Level 1 Black Spotted Spider.
Mu You had no choice but to put away his phone, draw his bow, and shoot the spider mid-air.
This small delay allowed the spider horde from behind to draw nearer.
What made his scalp prickle was the sudden influx of spiders forming in front of him as well.
“Damn it!”
Mu You had no choice but to once again use Phantom Shifting – twice in succession – just to escape from the encirclement of the spiders.
He had lost count of how many spiders were trailing behind him now, thousands?
Tens of thousands?
In any case, he couldn’t continue like this.
After another teleportation, Mu You perched himself onto a massive boulder and halted, turning around, drawing an arrow to scan the spider horde.
“What are you doing, Mu You?
Why aren’t you running!” Cola quickly scampered towards him.
“Continually fleeing isn’t the solution.
If our magic power drains before we escape, we’re finished.
We must find the commanding Mother Spider and kill it to completely solve the issue!”
Mu You’s gaze rapidly swept across the numerous spiders.
Unfortunately, there were just too many spiders, layered upon one another like a horde of zombies in a movie.
It was simply impossible to discern.
“There’s just not enough time, if I can just have some more…
Huh?”
The moment that thought formed, he found that his surroundings seemed to have slowed down.
An invisible spherical light shield enveloped an area one meter around him.
Outside the shield, everything seemed to have a slow-motion curse cast upon it, becoming exceptionally sluggish.
“Stop staring, Mu You…
Run…” Cola was still fretfully yelling next to him.
However, the last syllable of his cry seems to be drawn out infinitely in Mu You’s ears.
What’s happening?
Mu You was taken aback.
He was merely thinking of having more time, yet the things around him transformed into extreme slow-motion, as if only he could move freely?
At this moment, he felt something and reached into his pocket to pull out a card.
It was the Fool’s Card from the Black Forest trial.
He thought it was just an ordinary card and kept it in his pocket without giving it any attention.
However, the edges of the card now emitted a faint luminescence.
