Chapter 39: Spring Comes for Wang Yunxi

Gu Qinghe opened his eyes and began to realize that he still wasn’t capable of fighting evenly against Lin Ruyue, a Golden Core cultivator.

The core of the problem wasn’t simply because Lin Ruyue was a Golden Core. The real issue was the black dome surrounding the area.

That black-and-white ink-like dome had been created by the woman—an embodiment of her understanding of her sect’s techniques and formations.

Gu Qinghe raised one hand, golden qi light appearing at the tip of his finger. His eyes shone brightly as he stared ahead, and the system panel from the Heavenly Path Insight Technique appeared.

[Heavenly Path Insight Technique]

[Detecting:]

[1x Earth-Tier Tao Ink Prison Formation]

[Conclusion:]

[A formation primarily used to seal an enemy’s abilities]

[Formation cores are scattered across several points of the ink dome]

[The formation becomes stronger and more effective if the user’s dao comprehension is higher]

The reason the Tao Ink Prison Formation was so powerful despite being only Earth-tier was Lin Ruyue’s dao comprehension.

I don’t know what dao she has understood, but it clearly enhances the power of this dome.

The two clan elders rushed forward and joined Gu Qinghe in attacking Lin Ruyue.

Even though they attacked her together, none of them managed to defeat her.

Their abilities weakened. Their qi was absorbed into the ground, and both their offensive and defensive techniques became ineffective.

BLAST!

An explosion erupted, throwing them backward. One of the elders coughed up blood while clutching his chest in pain.

"We won’t be able to win unless we break this black dome," the elder said.

Gu Qinghe lifted his head and activated the formation eye he had learned long ago.

Through that ability, Gu Qinghe saw the massive formation rune at the top of the dome, with five golden points serving as its core.

"Since this formation is Earth-tier, I’ll need your help holding Lin Ruyue back," Gu Qinghe said. "I’ve already found the formation cores."

The two elders nodded.

They were ready to buy time so Gu Qinghe could destroy the cores of Lin Ruyue’s formation.

They charged forward and attacked Lin Ruyue with full force.

The woman took the bait and counterattacked. They clashed in rapid movements, fighting intensely.

Meanwhile, Gu Qinghe remained still.

He formed hand seals and raised his hand toward the sky, summoning a massive golden dragon that shot toward one of the dome’s core points.

A cracking sound echoed, followed by an explosion at the dome’s roof.

Lin Ruyue turned her head when she heard the noise. It was obvious she realized Gu Qinghe had discovered the core of the Tao Ink Prison Formation.

"Qinghe?! How did you find my formation core?"

Lin Ruyue pointed her ink sword forward, but the two elders immediately intercepted her attack, preventing her from interrupting Gu Qinghe.

"Your opponent is us. We won’t let you approach Young Master Gu!"

"Get out of my way!" Lin Ruyue shouted.

Gu Qinghe formed another hand seal and destroyed the next core. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

Explosions echoed one after another as the formation cores were destroyed.

The effect of the dome weakened, and Lin Ruyue’s power began to decline. At the same time, the strength of the two elders gradually returned.

Their recovered power was enough to injure and suppress Lin Ruyue.

Gu Qinghe formed the final hand seal, summoning another golden dragon that flew toward the last core of the Tao Ink Prison Formation.

"NO!" Lin Ruyue screamed.

BLAST!

A violent explosion erupted as the Tao Ink Prison Formation shattered into fragments that scattered through the air.

Lin Ruyue suffered a severe backlash. Her body was thrown backward, and she coughed up blood as she collapsed weakly against the stone wall.

The strength of the two elders returned completely.

With Lin Ruyue severely injured and her veins turning dark from poison, it was nearly impossible for her to survive.

Gu Qinghe stood up and slowly walked toward Lin Ruyue, who was leaning weakly against the rock wall.

Her vision was blurred as she looked forward.

Gu Qinghe stood before her, his injuries relatively minor.

"Qinghe...?"

"I... can’t be saved anymore," Lin Ruyue said weakly.

"You were destined to die by my hand," Gu Qinghe replied.

Lin Ruyue smiled faintly and laughed softly, though blood continued to spill from her mouth as her body grew weaker.

She lifted her head and reached a trembling hand toward Qinghe.

"Even though you’re the son of Gu Zhen and Wang Yunxi... I’ve always treated you like my own nephew," Lin Ruyue said.

"I’m going to die. The Meridian Ice Curse will break. Please deliver my apology to her."

"I... don’t have the courage to say it myself."

Gu Qinghe raised his hand. A bolt of soul lightning formed in his palm and shot forward.

The lightning struck Lin Ruyue instantly, entering her body and shattering her soul core, killing her in an instant.

Even so, Gu Qinghe still couldn’t be certain whether the curse had truly been broken.

The only option left was to go to the Wang Clan.

He turned his head and looked at the two elders beside him.

Gu Qinghe handed them the wooden box containing the Spirit Infant Pill along with the pouch of remaining spirit stones.

"What is it, Young Master?" one of the elders asked.

"I’m going to the Wang Clan. There’s a small chance I’ll return to the Gu Clan."

"I want you to give that pill to Yanxing."

The two elders nodded.

They stored the pill box and spirit stone pouch, then bid farewell to Gu Qinghe, asking him to take good care of himself.

They would report everything honestly to Gu Zhen, including Gu Qinghe’s remarkable progress.

Gu Qinghe didn’t pay much attention to that.

He flew away on his flying sword, his clothes stained with dust and blood—the marks of a battle that meant a great deal to him.

His destination was not Gu Sheng City.

It was Hong Su City.

Hong Su City was closer than returning to Gu Sheng City.

Gu Qinghe and the two elders parted ways, flying in different directions.

Gu Qinghe continued flying toward Hong Su City, eager to see whether Wang Yunxi had truly been freed from the Meridian Ice Curse.

From afar, the walls of Hong Su City appeared before his eyes.

He landed and walked normally into the city ruled by the Su Clan.

He entered without undergoing strict inspection and walked along the main street until he reached the mansion complex of the Wang Clan.

After fifteen minutes of walking, Gu Qinghe stood before the tightly closed gates of the Wang Clan mansion.

He raised his hand and knocked on the gate.

One of the clan guards opened it.

"You? Who are you?" the guard asked.

"I’m Gu Qinghe. I want to see my mother."

The guard looked shocked. He hadn’t expected such a coincidence.

Gu Qinghe had arrived in Hong Su City just after Wang Yunxi had been freed from the Meridian Ice Curse.

"Come in."

The guard led Gu Qinghe into the Wang Clan mansion.

Some people glanced at him with disdain because of his identity as a member of the Gu Clan—and because his clothes were worn, dirty, and damaged.

Gu Qinghe didn’t care.

His only purpose in coming to the Wang Clan mansion was to confirm whether his mother had truly been freed from the Meridian Ice Curse.

KNOCK!

"What is it?" asked a woman, Wang Yunxi’s personal maid.

"Someone wants to see you. His name is Gu Qinghe."

Wang Yunxi’s eyes widened.

She quickly stood up and opened the door.

Wang Yunxi stared at Gu Qinghe, tears immediately welling in her eyes. Her body moved instinctively as she pulled him into a tight embrace.

"Thank you, Qing’er. Thank you so much," Wang Yunxi said.

Several people nearby looked confused about why Wang Yunxi was thanking Gu Qinghe.

Wang Yunxi smiled as she wiped away her tears.

"Because Gu Qinghe is the one who helped destroy the Meridian Ice Curse."
