Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared-Chapter 555: Giving a Headache
Chapter 555: Chapter 555: Giving a Headache
The map remained indecipherable as Gu Fan studied it for several days to no avail. Now, he turned to his father’s notes. However, the original notes were taken by the boss and what was left were the ones Gu Chuanshan rewrote from memory. They lacked a lot of content which meant Gu Fan didn’t have much to refer to.
The notes suggested the Triangle Sea Area was formed by three lands: the East land, the West land, and the North land. The islands that Gu Chuanshan had studied were mostly located near the East land.
Gu Chuanshan recorded all the islands he had examined, yet a quarter was still missing from his memory.
According to Gu Chuanshan, he would designate a scope and study islands within that area one by one, not jumping from one island to another randomly.
"Then I’ll give it a try." Gu Fan began by looking for the names of these islands on the map, circling them with a pencil. Then, he drew a rough boundary based on these islands and discarded all islands within this area. That way, he managed to include the unrecorded quarter of the islands that had slipped from Gu Chuanshan’s memory.
For instance, if an island was not circled but all the islands around it were, Gu Fan considered it out of potential interest and crossed it off from the list.
With three thousand islands, finding the true destination would be like finding a needle in a haystack without eliminating some islands from consideration.
Although Gu Fan had managed to reduce the number of potential islands in Triangle Sea Area down to slightly over a hundred, three thousand islands remained. The seemingly impossible task was rather disheartening. How could this be possible?
The key still lay in that map. As Gu Chuanshan noted, he documented his findings while exploring the Triangle Sea Area and also recorded his understanding of the map.
Although the map and notes were taken by the boss, Gu Chuanshan had a photocopy of the map. If he could see it, he might recollect more details and write more.
Unfortunately, when Gu Fan took the copied map back to the hospital, his plan was thwarted by Qian Feng, and Gu Chuanshan, who had become unconscious, could not provide more reference material. Now the map was a complete mystery to Gu Fan.
"Forget it, let me take a break," mumbled Gu Fan, massaging his throbbing temples. The materials he had weren’t of much help at all. He believed that if he could retrieve the original map and notes from the boss, he could uncover more clues.
At this moment, Lin Xi walked in. Seeing Gu Fan’s frustration, she rubbed his temples and injected a flow of supernatural power into him. Instantly, his mind cleared up, and he felt like a cool spring running through his body, soothing him and dissipating all his worries.
"There you go," Lin Xi consoled. "Don’t stress yourself too much. There is still some time before we reach the Triangle Sea Area. You will have plenty of time to think it over."
"Really?" Gu Fan sighed, looking at the map. "I feel as though I haven’t the faintest clue... I mean, what is this map trying to tell us, there’s no hint at all."
Lin Xi took over the map and studied it for a while, then shook her head, "This map clearly depicts the Triangle Sea Area, but the actual locations are not marked. I don’t understand its point."
Gu Fan nodded, "So a treasure map that describes geographical locations without telling where the treasure is hidden – is that a treasure map at all?"
Lin Xi looked puzzled: "But according to my sister, they found this map in the residing place of the Eternal Life Clan. Qian Qing then used this map to locate that island."
"Really?" Gu Fan examined the map again, but it still didn’t make any sense to him. He started to get a headache so he gave up.
Suddenly, a deep noise echoed from outside the cabin. It sounded somewhat like a ship’s horn but was much more profound. Both Gu Fan and Lin Xi looked at each other, and then rushed out.
As expected, a whale jumped out of the water, its huge body inciting cheers from Gu Ling, Lu Yi, and the rest.
This was their first time at sea, and none of them had ever seen a true, gargantuan whale before. The sight of the whale slapping its tail against the water sent a shock through everyone. Gu Ling quickly took out his phone to capture the moment of the whale breaching the surface, a sight that left everyone awestruck thereby causing them to momentarily forget their quest.
Gu Fan said nothing, his attention drawn to the spectacle as well.
At that point, he noticed Du Jun talking to the captain, looking rather serious. It seemed that they had run into some thorny issue. Gu Fan had a bad feeling about this and thought something might happen.
As he expected, with a stern expression, Du Jun beckoned everyone for a meeting, announcing that he had some important news to share.
"They better not make us abandon ship. We’re in international waters," whispered Lu Yi. As soon as the words left his mouth, he was met with murderous looks from everyone present, which quickly silenced him.
Everyone then turned their hopeful eyes to Du Jun, praying that the doomsayer, Lu Yi, had not predicted their fate.
Du Jun shook his head, "You can relax, no one is going to make you abandon ship. This vessel belongs to a corporate company, even Lu Yi the doomsayer can be wrong sometimes."
With this reassurance, everyone felt somewhat relieved. But Du Jun’s serious demeanor suggested that they should remain on guard.
Recently, ships near the Triangle Sea Area had been attacked by pirates. A number of crew members had been kidnapped and some disappeared. In short, that patch of sea was anything but peaceful.
Upon hearing the news of pirates, everyone was on edge. Wasn’t the Triangle Sea Area with all its bizarre rumors scary enough already? Now there were pirates to worry about as well!
Just as everyone was growing pessimistic, Gu Ling proposed, "What if all those missing ships in the Triangle Sea Area over these years were actually the acts of pirates?"
"That’s a good point," everyone seemed to perk up, thinking that perhaps the Triangle Sea Area wasn’t as terrifying as they thought.
Gu Fan decided not to dampen their spirits. If the missing ships were indeed caused by pirates, the pirates would have announced their demands for a ransom by now and the world would know that the ships didn’t mysteriously disappear but were held captive by pirates.
Many ships disappeared in the Triangle Sea Area without a single claim of responsibility by the pirates. Thus, the mystery of these missing vessels was still unexplained.
"Should we really continue?" Gu Fan looked out at the calm sea and felt the sea breeze on his face. A sense of regret hit him. He felt he shouldn’t have led everyone into such a risky adventure. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
