Chapter 567: Chapter 567: A Narrow Escape

The cabin was already filled with fog now, and Gu Fan had been separated from his companions. Listening to the dreadful cries, Gu Fan panicked, only wanting to find a safe place as fast as he could.

While running, Gu Fan ended up in the kitchen. He remembered that there was a line of cabinets used for storage in the kitchen, which had quite a large space. It might be ideal for hiding.

In the urgency of the situation, Gu Fan quickly found the row of cabinets. As he opened a cabinet door, he was almost startled to find a pirate hiding within.

The pirate was terrified out of his wits too and let out a sigh of relief to see it was not a beast but a person.

"What? You pirates are really useless." Gu Fan had just finished saying that when heavy footsteps approached. Gu Fan instantly broke out in a cold sweat and quickly squeezed in the cabinet.

The row of cabinets was vast, but large enough for two people to hide. Gu Fan hid in the back half of the cabinet, and the pirate was crouched in the front half, curled up in a ball, trying to control his breath and heartbeat.

The footsteps approached closer to them, seeming to have reached the kitchen. The clanging sounds of pots and pans being hit were heard, the invisible fear torturing Gu Fan’s and the pirate’s nerves.

Through the cabinet door’s slit, Gu Fan saw something moving outside, but he couldn’t see it clearly, praying that its intelligence was not high enough to rummage through the cabinets.

The footsteps grew even closer, causing Gu Fan’s heart to pound violently. He could sense the person or thing was right outside the cabinet.

"No way!" Gu Fan had a bad premonition and prepared to fight to the death.

Suddenly, the cabinet door was forcefully opened from outside, and before the pirate could react, he was dragged out, leaving behind his screams of terror.

Gu Fan was dumbfounded, but he quickly came to his senses, thinking that he should take this opportunity to escape while the creature was focused on the pirate.

Gu Fan gritted his teeth and rushed out, not caring what was happening, he ran for his life. He dared not look back, afraid of the horrifying scene that he might see.

He ran, and ran, his mind a complete blank. Listening to the screams of the pirate behind him, Gu Fan wished to flee this place. But surrounded by the mist, where could he go?

Just as Gu Fan turned a corner, he hit something and was thrown off balance. He immediately was filled with palpable fear, thinking that he had encountered something.

As Gu Fan was about to run, he heard a familiar scream.

When Gu Fan turned around, he saw Lu Yi. He saw Lu Yi waving his arms and flailing about, his eyes closed shut, clearly scared out of his wits.

"Lu Yi, it’s me." Gu Fan quickly shouted out.

Recognizing his friend’s voice, Lu Yi calmed down. He opened his eyes and was overjoyed to see Gu Fan. He immediately embraced his friend.

Following were others Jie, Ouyang Jin, Xu Haowen and Du Jun. They had separated earlier but were now reunited.

Seeing that everyone was safe, Gu Fan sighed in relief and said, "It’s good everyone’s fine. Now we have to find a way out of here, otherwise danger will hit us at any moment."

Du Jun made a face, "Isn’t that obvious? Look around. The whole ship is engulfed in fog, where’s a safe place."

To which, Gu fan shook his head. "I don’t believe the fog will last forever. There will be a time when it disperses and we just have to hold on until then. If we can make it to that time, we will survive."

Upon hearing this, everyone gathered their courage. They all looked at Gu Fan, hoping that he could lead them out of this situation.

Gu Fan knew that everyone came here because of him and he felt responsible for the crisis everyone was in. He immediately gave out instructions. The first one was to stick together.

Gu Fan found a few ropes and tied everyone together. This way if anyone was pulled away by something in the fog, others could save him or her using the collective strength of the group.

After tying everyone together, no one felt relieved, as this was just a last resort in case of a crisis. It might not even be useful. The most important thing was to find a relatively safe place to wait out until the fog dispersed.

Gu Fan said, "I was just hiding in the kitchen cabinets and almost got found by something in the fog. Instead of finding a safe place, we should find Lin Xi. I believe with Lin Xi’s supernatural powers, she can handle this."

Hearing this, everyone nodded in agreement. At this point, their only hope was Lin Xi. So, they set off to find Lin Xi.

As they walked, Gu Fan was trying to call Lin Xi, but realized that the signal was too weak to get through. He was worried in case anything happened to those four girls.

Gu Fan could only reassure himself. Su Hui has exceptional skills, Lin Xi possesses vast supernatural power, and Gu Ling has the ability to sense danger. These three females, together, should be able to handle many difficulties.

Thinking this, Gu Fan looked at his male co-travelers and realized a disheartening fact. The most powerful in their group were the women.

Lu Yi also noticed this, "Huh, don’t you think it’s embarrassing for us, six grown men, to seek protection from women?"

Du Jun argued back, "If you think it’s humiliating, you can choose not to go. We will definitely go."

"Come on, I can’t be the odd one out if everyone is going." Lu Yi impudently said this, giving an impression that he deserved a good thrashing.

Gu Fan did not have his sister’s ability to sense, but he devised a way. He put his ear against the floor to sense any movements.

Seeing him do this, everyone followed suit and threw themselves on the floor, which made Gu Fan half amused and half exasperated.

After listening for a while and hearing nothing, Xu Haowen couldn’t help but say, "There’s nothing. Are we safe now?"

Lu Yi shook his head saying, "I doubt it. Maybe the beings in the fog have already found us. They might attack us any moment. It’s best if we stay on guard."

Hearing this, everyone wanted to punch the pessimistic Lu Yi just when they heard a series of footsteps approaching. The footsteps were so loud and seemed in such a hurry, as if something was running towards them; the momentum was so great that it disturbed the fog.

"No, Lu Yi, you damn pessimist. We must run." Gu Fan shouted at the top of his lungs and was the first to start running. Everyone else followed, too caught up in their fear to even roll their eyes at Lu Yi.

"It’s not me! I was just reminding everyone to stay alert. How come that makes me a pessimist?" Lu Yi said ruefully while running at full speed. His pessimist remark was indeed on point.
