Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared-Chapter 80 - Building Confidence
80: Chapter 80: Building Confidence
80 -80: Building Confidence
The contest was over, and although they didn’t win first place, second place was still quite an achievement.
Lin Xi felt that without Gu Fan, they might not have been able to pass the test so smoothly.
Gu Fan immediately went over to offer his congratulations, “You guys did really well.
I thought my plan was solid, but it seems your strategy was even better.”
Hearing this, Lv Wei simply smiled, “It’s nothing.
It was a team effort that brought us this success.”
Du Jun quickly joined in, “Indeed, you came up with the strategy.
We simply followed your lead.
You deserve the most credit for our victory.”
“So, it was like that.” After Gu Fan said this, something felt off to him.
Du Jun wasn’t typically the type to lavish such praises.
He wondered if Du Jun’s sudden change in behavior indicated some kind of mistake.
Lv Wei kept his composure, appearing humble but with a hint of self-satisfaction in his eyes.
Gu Fan understood though; it was natural for Lv Wei to feel happy about winning.
The second game soon began.
It was a paintball shooting contest.
The fifty competitors were split into two groups of twenty-five, with the goal being either to defeat all opponents or to capture their flag.
Generally speaking, it would take a significant amount of time to defeat all opponents, so effective use of tactics to steal the opponents’ flag was key to victory.
This time, Gu Fan, Lu Yi, Jie, Du Jun, Lv Wei, and Lin Xi were on the same team.
It was a chance for them to work together and strive for victory.
Before everyone got equipped and ready to enter the battlefield, Lv Wei spoke about the need for a strategic plan rather than rushing in recklessly.
Lu Yi thought that as long as they were having fun, that was all that mattered.
After all, winning or losing didn’t mean much.
However, Lv Wei adamantly disagreed, stating, “The purpose of this training is to foster our team spirit, not just for fun and games.”
Feeling somewhat offended, Lu Yi wanted to strike back.
But Gu Fan stepped into the fray, surprisingly supporting Lv Wei’s idea.
The last event had made Gu Fan realize the importance of teamwork, and he found this paintball game meaningful.
Since Gu Fan agreed, Lu Yi didn’t argue further and simply followed the given orders.
Lv Wei gathered everyone together to discuss the plan.
Rather than a group brainstorming session, it felt more like Lv Wei was assigning tasks to everyone.
Even though Gu Fan did share his thoughts, they were ultimately rejected by Lv Wei.
“If there are no objections, then let’s follow this plan.” Lv Wei’s command made everyone a bit uncomfortable, but they carried on with it anyway.
Gu Fan, Lu Yi, and Jie were assigned to the left flank.
Under the cover of the main army, their task was to advance at all costs, draw the enemy fire and create chaos.
As soon as the game started, the enemy assault was intense.
Gu Fan, Lu Yi, and Jie had to take cover and retaliate cautiously.
“My goodness, their attack is fierce.
Did they take some super pills or something?” Lu Yi almost got hit, his heart racing with fear.
Gu Fan surveyed their surroundings and noticed that the fight seemed less intense on the center and right flanks.
It seemed like the enemy’s main force was trying to break through their left flank.
Clearly, the enemy was applying focused pressure on one point for breakthrough.
With only Gu Fan, Lu Yi, and Jie on the left, it was challenging not only to advance but also to resist enemy attacks.
As Gu Fan watched the opponents steadily advancing with the advantage of cover and superior firepower, he truly felt cornered and fervently hoped Lv Wei could see their predicament and send reinforcements.
Lin Xi, who was defending the base, noticed the dire situation on the left flank and quickly spoke up, “There are lots of enemies on the left.
They are too few to withstand the attack.
We need to send reinforcements now.”
Du Jun also noticed and added, “They have sent about fifteen people to attack our left flank.
They are trying to overwhelm us.”
“Indeed, the majority of our forces are advancing on the center and right flanks.
Pulling back now is difficult.
This is quite a tough situation,” commented Lv Wei, deep in thought.
Lin Xi urged, “Send more people, or we’ll lose the left flank.”
Lv Wei decisively disagreed, “Not possible.
We need to ensure a certain level of defense at our base.
Otherwise, it would be too risky.”
Lin Xi argued emphatically, “But if we lose the left flank, our base will be under fierce attack.”
At this point, the opponent’s offensive on the left flank was so aggressive, advancing step by step, forcing Gu Fan, Lu Yi, and Jie to retreat.
“Damn, we’re in danger!” Lv Wei realized something was wrong.
After pressing down the left flank defense, the opponent didn’t continue to advance, but instead split their forces to infiltrate the center, beginning to encircle Lv Wei’s troops in the middle.
Seeing the same situation, Gu Fan was secretly thinking, did they have a military enthusiast on the other side using such tactics?
Things turned bad.
Lv Wei’s forces positioned in the middle could neither advance to attack the opponent’s base nor retreat since their path was cut off.
They were caught in a situation where they were getting hit from all sides.
“Fools, you’ve walked into an encirclement.” Lv Wei observed and immediately planned a strategy.
Although the opponent’s main force had cut off his retreat, they had also placed themselves between the troops on the main road and the base.
Lv Wei quickly assembled forces from the right and left flanks to carry out simultaneous attacks, creating a four-sided siege.
He surrounded the opponent’s main force and then launched a fierce attack.
The opponent’s tactics might have been good, but they made the mistake of pushing their main force into a position where they could be surrounded anytime.
Lv Wei noticed this and decisively issued an order.
After a burst of intense firepower, the opponent’s main force was essentially wiped out.
Under Lv Wei’s command, everyone pushed forward and swiftly secured the victory.
As the game ended, Lu Yi felt excited, and Gu Fan also wore a smile after experiencing the intense virtual firefight.
This game really got their blood pumping.
Du Jun couldn’t help saying, “Thankfully you spotted their weak point.
If not, we could have lost.”
“Nothing much.
Just luck on my part.” Lv Wei remained calm and gave a polite smile, “We’ve now won two matches in a row.
Even though it’s just a game, the feeling of victory is still great.
I proved myself useful, didn’t I?”
“Yeah, under your command, we were able to pull it off both times.” Du Jun was also laughing happily.
But as he turned around, his face changed suddenly, thinking, “You bastard, what do you mean by saying that?
Are you implying that I was only able to maintain a winning streak because I teamed up with you?”
Then Lv Wei walked over to Gu Fan and started a conversation, “That was a close win.
We were only lucky.
The opponent applied the wrong tactics.
Otherwise, we would have been in big trouble.”
Gu Fan nodded, “Adaptability is the most important thing on the battlefield.
Thanks to your quick response, we survived.
We won.”
Upon hearing these words, Lv Wei also smiled, “After winning, I suddenly thought of something.
If we can work harder, think of a better solution, we might be able to tackle the disappearances.”
Gu Fan furrowed his brows slightly, thinking, “Why bring that up all of a sudden?”
Seeing Gu Fan’s confusion, Lv Wei quickly clarified, “Gu Fan, don’t misunderstand.
I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with your method.
At the very least, you’ve united us in response to this crisis.
But given that ten students have already disappeared, unity alone is not enough.
I don’t want to be the eleventh.
For my safety, I want to devise a plan to protect all of us.
What do you think?”
“Sure, as long as it benefits everyone, I welcome everyone to contribute their ideas.” Of course, Gu Fan would not object.
He genuinely hoped everyone could provide valuable suggestions.
However, the problem was that based on the trend, Lv Wei was not simply suggesting his own ideas.
Then Lv Wei continued, “Ten students have gone missing.
Gu Fan, I don’t blame you.
You’ve done your best.
It’s not that you’re incompetent, but the opponent is too cunning.
Your point about teamwork needing collective wisdom is only half right; when there are too many ideas, we need someone to make the final decision.
Considering my safety is at stake, let me take the lead.
I believe I can do as good a job as you or better.”
Gu Fan understood Lv Wei’s intentions.
This guy wanted to replace Gu Fan as the leader.
But on the surface, Gu Fan remained calm.
After pondering it over for a while, he said, “We’re all part of one body.
It’s not just about your safety but also that of Lin Xi and Du Jun.
Whatever your plan is, it needs the approval of all of us.”
“I know, I also believe that my abilities can win everyone’s recognition.
I think if our previous methods have not worked, we should be flexible in changing our tactics.” Lv Wei was full of pride as he spoke this sentence.
“I hope so too.” Gu Fan fully understood Lv Wei’s intention.
His command abilities had been validated by their two victories, and, coupled with the approval he received from his teachers for being a top student, Lv Wei felt it should be him, not Gu Fan, bearing the responsibility.
If Du Jun relied on his status as a wealthy heir to feel superior, then Lv Wei relied solely on his own efforts to become a top student.
There was an air of arrogance about him.
In Lv Wei’s eyes, Du Jun, who relied solely on his family, was no match for Lv Wei’s self-made success, making him disdain Du Jun even more.
Of course, in the previous joint actions, they were basically led by Gu Fan but ended in failure.
This made Lv Wei feel that if he were leading, perhaps they could do better than Gu Fan.
Perhaps the students would not have disappeared.
Moreover, Lv Wei believed in his abilities and thought it best for the most capable person to take charge.
Especially after beating Gu Fan in the first game of the training session, his belief strengthened.
