Thousands of Brilliant Stars: You Deserve the Best!-Chapter 174: So Annoying at Night!
That night, Felix Crawford seemed to reconcile with the past Iris Crawford, and he suddenly understood why his mother always kept past events from him, and why under such circumstances, Iris would still give birth to him.
There might be only one reason, and that is because he was loved.
So Iris severed all ties, hoping Felix could be a new beginning.
But outside the villa, Lachlan Wyatt knew nothing.
The lights blazed bright, and the air turning cold was filled with the flavor of the impending New Year. In the days away from Iris, Lachlan had not reunited with his family as if punishing himself, becoming increasingly indifferent, heartless, and unrecognizable to relatives. Naturally, he wouldn’t intentionally spend such a holiday with anyone.
But now.
Lachlan clenched his fingers.
He wanted to spend New Year with Iris.
Lachlan stood at the villa entrance for a long time, never choosing to go inside. Instead, after a moment of silence, the man turned and left.
The sound of a car starting came from the entrance, the familiar roar of the engine made Iris’s chopsticks pause.
This engine sound, could it be...
She put down the chopsticks and went out, only to see the desolate street, the car had long gone.
Returning to check the surveillance, Iris looked at the man in the footage, her expression stunned for a few seconds.
He really came.
Iris thought the familiar sound she heard just now was an illusion.
Because Iris had driven all of Lachlan’s cars, and for the ones she had driven, she was extremely familiar. Now, looking at the screen, Felix walked up from behind her, "Mommy, why did you put down your chopsticks halfway through dinner to look at the surveillance, did a thief get in?"
Iris didn’t know how to explain to Felix, "I just heard a familiar car sound outside, nothing, just came to take a look, let’s go back and continue eating."
"Oh..." Felix pretended not to understand, instinctively glancing again at the surveillance screen, realizing everything in his heart.
That night, when Felix finished his bath and hummed a tune coming out of the bathroom, he happened to hear Iris received a phone call.
"Is it Miss Crawford? Is it convenient for you to come over?"
Iris was writing code, hearing the unfamiliar voice addressing her by her surname made her a bit bewildered, then she reacted, "Hello, may I ask who this is?"
"Well, Mr. Wyatt told us your phone number so..."
Iris abruptly hung up the phone.
Felix stood outside the door holding the towel, speechless, was his mommy too decisive?
After speaking, Iris stood and hugged Felix, "Probably a scam call? Don’t worry, mommy installed a national anti-fraud app, these little tricks can’t fool me."
Felix cautiously said, "But I just heard the words Mr. Wyatt..."
Iris pretended not to hear, asking again, "Did you? You misheard."
"..." His dad was so miserable.
But the other side was quite patient, after being hung up on once, they called again, "Miss Crawford, Mr. Wyatt drank too much in our shop, are you really not coming to pick him up?"
"I’m busy." She curtly dropped three words, Iris grabbed the phone and said, "Also, tell him not to casually give my number to strangers, it really troubles me. If he has the guts to call me himself."
The other side didn’t expect Iris’s attitude to be so tough, they were startled and muttered, "Sir, your girlfriend has quite the temper..."
"Girlfriend" came out.
Iris sneered hearing those three words, then said, "Anything else? If not, I’m hanging up, let him drink more, I’ll buy him insurance now so he can die in peace."
It seemed Lachlan overheard this, he grabbed the phone, drunken eyes unfocused, mumbling, "Iris, do you wish I were dead..."
The familiar voice sent a jolt through Iris’s heart, listening to Lachlan, recalling the desolate look in his eyes when he left her house tonight, Iris instinctively frowned and then said, "See, you still have consciousness, why do you need me to pick you up, don’t you know disturbing someone so late at night is annoying?"
It seemed her words stung the other side.
After a long silence, a trembling voice transmitted four words.
"I miss you."
Four short words, a gesture of surrender.
Iris almost couldn’t hold onto her phone, her entire body shuddering with exertion.
"If there’s nothing more, I’m hanging up." But to Lachlan’s surprise, even after he confessed so, Iris still disconnected the call without any hesitation after a brief pause.
This response shattered him.
She was truly utterly disappointed in him, leaving no room for him.
Five years, Iris, how much you must hate me in those five years.
Lachlan was in deep agony, not knowing how to vent, handing back the phone to the kind person who helped make the call, laying on the table as if waiting for death.
After a while, when Lachlan raised his head from the table, his eyes were already red.
He trembled, seemingly unable to utter a word, using all his strength to clarify an entire sentence, "Iris, you... are too cruel."
But Iris could no longer hear.
She had already uprooted herself from his world, even if the cost was she herself would be wounded, bleeding profusely.
Lachlan felt as if his consciousness was drifting away, not knowing how long had passed, it seemed someone tugged gently at his clothes.
Lachlan lowered his head to see a face strikingly similar to his own.
He was taken aback.
"How could you drink like this!" Felix fanned his nose while forcefully dragging Lachlan away from the table, "No wonder mommy doesn’t want to come in, sending me to pick you up, how can you let a five-year-old kid come to a bar to drag you back!"
Lachlan felt as if his heart stopped, stumbling all the way as Felix tugged him out of the bar, then saw a cold figure standing outside, turning around, the owner of that figure had a quite beautiful face.
Iris.
Iris crossed her arms, the bright red nails gently tapping against one arm, seeing Lachlan she pulled her lips into a smile and said, "Consider it a family relationship, just this once, I’ll send you back, next time have your elder brother, the First Prince, call me with any issues."
"Is he your ex-husband?" Lachlan, having drunk heavily, the incoming cold breeze made him gasp after coming out.
Then he smiled at Iris, the decadent eyes bringing shock and awe.
"Anyone could be your ex-husband, but not me."
