Chapter 112: Chapter 112: Providing Comfort

Karl’s POV

For the past couple of weeks, I had been going to the company to get familiar with its operation.

Since I am taking over as the alpha, I also have to learn how to run the family business.

The Stone Group is a family business ran for generations by the alphas of the Bloodfang pack. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Now that I am getting crowned as the alpha soon, I must also understand the business.

I have not officially left the Night claw pack. However, I will be leaving in two days.

Today, I came back early to say goodbye to Valerie.

Even though I haven’t achieved my goal, I can’t just let go of my prey.

The only reason I had to bed down my pursuit was because I couldn’t openly let others know that I wanted more than friendship.

Not when she is still the Luna of Night claw pack.

My bet with Mike is still on, and since he hasn’t claimed her, I still have a chance.

I just wonder whether Valerie still sees me as her only salvation.

After all, when she was nothing more than a pack slave, I was the only one who showed her a bit of kindness.

I was still worrying about how to convince her to leave with me when Mike presented that opportunity on a platter.

The voices in the dining hall when I walked in weren’t loud. However, they might as well have been holding loudspeakers when they spoke.

The way Mike belittled Valerie had my blood boiling for some reason.

I hated seeing her treated like that and I thought it must have been because I have chased this prey for so long and I hated seeing anyone tarnish what is mine.

Even though I only wanted to conquer her to win the bet, it wasn’t anyone else’s place to treat her so badly.

I especially got mad when Mike let his little green tea mistress humiliate Valerie like that and he said nothing.

He claimed to be an alpha who hated weakness, but he was a weakling to begin with.

Any man who couldn’t even protect his mate was not worth calling himself strong.

The fact that he was unable to protect Valerie was telling of his position as alpha.

If I found my mate, no matter who she is, I would never let her suffer like Valerie.

Mike might not have noticed, but ever since he started getting a little closer to Val, his strength has increased and even the company under Night claw pack has seen an increase in their profit turnover.

I wouldn’t go as far as to claim that this was because of Valerie, but I have heard some rumors from the elders of my pack.

If what they said was true, then Valerie’s father was most likely connected to something big.

Something that could change the leadership of the werewolf race for centuries to come.

What if Valerie was involved?

That thought had just crossed my mind when I quickly shoved it out.

How could anyone related to such an important matter be as low as a slave?

But I still wanted her to be mine to win that bet.

I never admit defeat and I won’t start now.

I watched as Valerie left the dining room with her back straight and her expression calm.

However, after knowing her for so long, I knew that she was everything but okay.

She was calm on the outside but was definitely crying on the inside.

Now was my chance to let her feel my presence again.

The presence of that one friend who accepted her even when she was a slave.

I first went back to my room to shower and change clothes before grabbing some of the chocolates Valerie loved eating before.

Now she doesn’t lack food, but no girl would refuse chocolate when she is down.

Arriving at her door, I raised my hand to knock but stopped mid-air.

I could hear the sobs from inside the room and I knew I was right.

Valerie was indeed crying from what Mike had just done to her.

I wanted to show my presence at this moment, but I didn’t want her to think I was taking advantage of her when she was down.

I waited until the sobs stopped and after a short while, I finally knocked on the door.

I don’t know if she knew who was at the door, but it took a few minutes before she opened the door.

"Hey Val." I pretended to know nothing when she opened the door for me and greeted her the way I always did.

I know that even though she has lived a hard life in the pack, she didn’t like being treated like a victim.

So, I pretended that I didn’t know what had happened at the dining hall.

"Hey Karl. What brings you here at this hour?" She asked with her usual smile.

But I could see the pain in her eyes.

And for the second time tonight, my heart twisted in pain.

Seeing her faking a smile was more annoying than fighting rogues.

"I came to see my friend who has been so busy lately she has no time for me." I said with a chuckle, ignoring that ache in my chest.

"Oh! Come in." She moved to the side to let me in.

"Wasn’t it you who has been so busy that your feet barely touch the ground?" She asked with a more genuine smile this time.

"I have to take over alpha duties from my dad soon. I can’t be as carefree as before. That’s why I have been so busy and didn’t come to see you." I explained briefly.

"But look here. I brought you your favorite chocolate." I said, offering the box of chocolate to her.

She looked at the box in my hand and her smile became even brighter.

"Thanks, Karl. I really needed this." She accepted the chocolate and immediately took one out to eat.

Looking at the way she was eating, I realized that she probably didn’t get to eat dinner.
