Or was it genuine praise? I don’t know. Maybe it was because Mike had let it slip earlier that I was his mate.

The doctor figured that even if I am treated like a slave in the pack, being the Alpha’s fated mate counted for something.

After all, even though Mike denied being concerned about me, he still went to great lengths to have me treated.

The doctor must have thought that being nicer to me wouldn’t hurt.

"Thank you." Regardless of the reason the doctor had a better attitude towards me compared to others in the pack, I was grateful. At least, she wasn’t pulling and pushing me like some garbage when I was severely hurt.

"I can’t turn you too much or figure out what’s going on internally just by looking at you. From the large bruises on your skin and the concave parts on your ribs, I can tell that you have broken bones. We have to do a full body scan to understand where you are really hurt and to what extent. That way, we will know what to fix and how to fix it. You will have to bear with the pain. If it’s too much, ask me for pain killers, but I wouldn’t recommend them. They dull our senses too much." The doctor explained patiently.

"Just do what you need to do doc. I am fine. I am used to the pain, this amount of suffering is nothing." I reassured her confidently, but for god knows what reason, tears began welling up in her eyes.

It seemed that she didn’t want me to discover her crying because she turned around and wiped her tears before turning back to me with an encouraging smile.

"Okay, I will call a few nurses to help with moving you to the examination room for the scans." The doctor said before pressing a small button I hadn’t noticed before at the side of the bed.

Two minutes later, two nurses walked into the room with serious expressions.

However, I could tell that one of them was looking at me with contempt. It was as if she had been forced to be there and she couldn’t hide how she felt about being forced to serve a slave.

I knew that the only reason she wasn’t acting out was probably because Mike and Karl were outside the room and she was scared.

But I knew that as soon as they left, I would definitely be manhandled by her. I was tempted to ask the doctor to change to another nurse,but I didn’t dare to push my luck.

It was already a miracle that Mike or anyone else in the pack bothered to have me treated. I have had broken bones before and still was forced to work through their recovery.

It was Lizzie who did the heavy lifting during such times until my body healed. Luckily, my wolf had awakened early, otherwise I would have many misaligned bones that had been broken and not healed properly.

The doctor seemed to have also noticed the nurse’s attitude. Before the two nurses could lift me from the bed and into a gurney, she spoke out.

"Be careful how you handle her. You don’t want to have two alphas breathing down your neck because of your pride and prejudice." She didn’t need to say more.

No one wanted to get on the bad side of the future alphas of two of the most powerful packs.

The nurse who had been showing contempt understood the warning in those words and immediately reigned in her contempt and arrogance.

She wasn’t stupid enough to cross two alphas for a moment of pleasure.

I heaved a sigh of relief when I saw her change her expression. At least I won’t have to withstand unnecessary pain.

As expected, the two nurses moved me carefully from the bed to the gurney.

They were careful not to shift anything internally and I was immediately wheeled into the examination room.

After the scans were conducted, it was found that I had five broken ribs, two of which had pierced my lungs, explaining why I was breathing out more than I was breathing in.

I also had several torn internal organs causing massive internal bleeding.

"How is she still alive and awake?" The radiographer working on me asked as he looked at the results on the screen.

The doctor moved closer to examine the results together with the radiographer and gasped in shock.

"I knew she had internal injuries, but I hadn’t expected them to be so bad. Honestly, this is a medical miracle. Any other person would be requiring resuscitation by now. But she’s a tough one. Being able to survive this long and remain so calm and composed."

"Well, you better get her to the theater fast before this miracle disappears. She has lost too much blood and her heart is working excessively to compensate for the pumping of the blood which hasn’t leaked out yet. Her lungs will soon give out with how badly injured they are." The radiographer urged as he printed out the results and handed them to the doctor.

I listened to the two discuss my condition as if I wasn’t there and said nothing.

What could I say? That such injuries didn’t scare me because Lizzie could always come through? I didn’t have that luxury now. Lizzie was asleep somewhere and I don’t know when she will wake up.

I was soon wheeled out of the examination room and as the nurses pushed me towards the theater, Mike and Karl hurried over and stood on the sides of the gurney, forcing the nurses to stop. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

"How is she doing?" Karl asked with concern plastered on his face like usual. Unfortunately, after learning about the bet, I could never see him the same way again.

Every time he showed concern for me, I would only think how hypocritical he was.

"Not good. We have to prepare to operate immediately. She has multiple broken bones, some ribs have pierced her lungs, organs are shattered, and she has massive internal bleeding." The doctor explained as detailed as possible using the least amount of words.
