Three Alphas, Fated To One, Played By One, But Mated To One-Chapter 32: Plotting Revenge
I struggled to sit up a little and Anita came running to the side of the bed and piled pillows behind my back. I had no idea where she got those pillows from but I don’t care since they worked.
"Thank you, Anita." I thanked her and by now, I had stopped asking her to leave because obviously, she won’t listen.
I decided to just observe her and find out what she was up to as time went by.
People always reveal their true colors eventually.
"Don’t worry about it." Anità replied then went back to the sofa.
I took the laptop Karl had given me and once I looked at it carefully, I realized that it wasn’t some old laptop he had picked up from somewhere to appease me. It was actually a new laptop.
It wasn’t the expensive kind with high-tech specs but it was a good machine.
I wondered what Karl meant by this. Even though he had given me some small gifts before, it was always food in most cases. Some chocolates and sweets were the norm. So, why such an expensive thing this time? Did something I was unaware of happen?
I didn’t dwell on things I couldn’t control, so I fired up the laptop and it lit up immediately.
Before connecting to the internet, I formatted the laptop just in case something I was unaware of had been installed in it before it was brought to me.
I no longer trusted Karl and I didn’t think it was beneath him to install spyware in the laptop he gave me.
I connected the laptop to the internet after that and applied the knowledge I had learned from books to look around the web.
I found a few proxies I could use for free since I had no money to pay for one and found some apps I could use to connect to foreign internet.
After settling up a few things, I no longer needed to use the internet server Karl had provided for me and the laptop could be said to be entirely mine now without any traces of things left behind.
Indeed, I had found a well hidden spyware in the laptop that I was sure Karl had installed to monitor my surfing and everything I did on the laptop.
Luckily, I got rid of it as soon as I turned on the laptop and didn’t even give him the chance to find out that I wasn’t using his internet server.
I might have been a slave most of my life, but my mind will never be enslaved. I could think rationally for myself and make decisions that benefit me. After all, I had nothing to lose.
I kept working on the laptop and applying the knowledge I had learned from all those books. I realized that computer science was way simpler when doing practicals than I thought.
Within two hours of getting the laptop, I could hack into the servers of small companies around the world.
Moreover, apart from the first few times where I made some errors and alerted the technical teams of the companies, nearly getting caught and forced to withdraw immediately, I didn’t encounter any challenges after getting the hang of it.
I could now hack into a medium sized company, steal information, and exit undetected.
I almost laughed out loud when I realized this. It also gave me an idea.
I could use this knowledge to make money for myself and set myself up for my revenge and also to investigate my father’s set-up.
I always knew that my father wasn’t a traitor. He must have been framed. But the person who framed him was too thorough. However, if this person ever used a device connected to the internet to transmit information, I was gonna dig them up.
Even if that was not the case, with enough money, I could still hire people to help me find out the truth.
With a goal in mind, I kept surfing the web until the doctor came back for a routine check and forced me to put the laptop down and rest after eating.
When I woke up again, Anita and her friend were gone. I was the only one in the room and my laptop was lying on the table beside the bed.
I needed to use the bathroom and without anyone to help me, I had to manage myself.
I struggled to lift myself up from the bed and the pain that shot through my insides and ribs almost made me go insane.
But my bladder was protesting and I had no choice but to endure. I cursed Innocent to her eighteenth generation of ancestors for doing this to me.
She was frustrated by Mike and instead of expressing her dissatisfaction, she came to take out her anger and frustrations on me. Classic of those who bully the weak and fear the strong.
It took me almost five minutes to get out of bed. The pain was almost sending me to my knees. Cold sweat was already streaming down my face and my legs shook as I stood up.
I couldn’t stand up straight no matter how I tried because the pain was too much. So, I had to hold onto the wall and bend my back then take small baby steps towards the door.
Another irony about the hospital room I was in. Although it was bigger than the last one, it still didn’t have a bathroom inside.
I still had to walk to the public washroom at the end of the corridor.
I opened the door and some conversations filled my ears as I took a small step at a time.
I got to understand everything going on around the pack through the gossip passed on by the nurses walking around, patients and their families talking in their hospital rooms, and cleaners wiping floors.
I have always been attentive to everything going on around the pack even though I always kept my head down.
I learned early that knowledge meant survival. The more I knew, the better I could avoid misfortune by stepping on the wrong toes.
