Innocent showed up on my third day in the hospital. Unlike other days when she was all high and mighty in front of me, there was a slight awkwardness in her speech and even body language.

Anita had already filled me in on what had happened in the corridor the day I got admitted in the hospital again.

I was aware that the whole pack knew about Mike being my mate. I also asked about the Luna ceremony and found out about details I didn’t know before.

It turned out that Mike had solemnly sworn to only have Innocent as the Luna for the rest of his life.

He had only refrained from marking her in public during that ceremony because his father, the former alpha, had adamantly opposed it.

Now that everyone in the pack and even beyond knew that I was the unwanted mate, the mockery had worsened.

I was surprised to see Innocent in my hospital room again and wondered if she was there to cause trouble again.

Since I realized that she was afraid of Karl, I had an amulet and could talk to her as an equal human being.

"What do you want now Innocent? Are you here to frame me again?" I asked directly.

"I hope you can stop saying I framed you. I wasn’t there when the vase broke but I know that Laura wouldn’t have broken something I love. So, it must have been you." I was surprised to find that Innocent was still pretending like she didn’t order those lackeys to cause me trouble.

"It’s just the two of us here. You can drop the act. I am not a man, so your innocent act doesn’t work on me. You must have instructed those followers of yours to break the vase and then cause me trouble. Why do you have to do this?" I couldn’t help myself from asking.

We were clearly very close when we were children. What went wrong?

"Okay, I won’t pretend anymore. You are just a lowly slave of the pack, what gives you the right to be Mike’s mate? Do you know how bad I want to strangle you to death? You are not only a humiliation and disgrace to Mike, you are also a nightmare to me. How could I lose to a slave like you?" Innocent began shouting hysterically.

"What do you even mean by that? Aren’t mates arranged by the moon goddess? How could you say that I am a disgrace and humiliation to Mike? Doesn’t that indirectly call the goddess incompetent?" I couldn’t help but ask, causing Innocent to cease her shouting.

"How can you make such a blasphemous accusation? You want to pin the crime of offending the goddess on me? Stop joking. I know that the moon goddess doesn’t make mistakes, but all these years of hard labor have probably stripped you of all the value you might have. So, why stick to Mike? You should hurry up and reject him ,so that he can be fully mine." At this moment, my headache returned and I just wanted to rest.

I wanted nothing to do with Mike as far as I was concerned.

"If Mike is up for rejection, I will happily agree. But the question remains, is he willing to accept my rejection?" I asked matter-of-factly but that seemed to tick Innocent off.

"Why wouldn’t he agree? I am his Luna, and you are just an unwanted mate who could be killed at any time. Let me warn you Valerie, if I find you within three feet of Mike, I will skin you alive. I don’t care whether Karl will be happy or not. I will definitely peel your skin off layer by layer until only your skeleton remains. So, don’t test me." Innocent gave all these warnings but didn’t say why she was so worked up.

Even the most insignificant person in the pack knew about her union with Mike. They also knew that there couldn’t be anything between Mike and I, but why was Innocent acting so strange? And why did she have to take out her rage on me when I had done nothing but lie on a hospital bed?

"Innocent, can you please act like a mature adult for once? I haven’t even talked to Mike in private before. So, how could I have anything going on between us? Anita already explained the situation within the pack. You already ascended to the position of Luna of the pack, what more do you want?" I really couldn’t understand why Innocent insisted on finding trouble with me.

"Until you are dead, I could never have a day of peace. You are clearly just a slave, but why does Mike have to keep calling your name as we make love? Where does that leave me? If I am going to have to endure all this, then I would rather bear the infamy of killing a pack member." I realized that Innocent seemed to have inner demons and they are related to me.

"But I don’t remember ever provoking you. So, what is your deal?" This was a question I have wanted an answer for a long time and today, maybe the day has come.

"Just as you are a humiliation to Mike and deserve death, you are also a source of humiliation to me. It was okay before when Mike kept calling your name as we made, but now that I know you two are mates, I can’t sit around and do nothing. I have to kill you to wash away that shame." Innocent replied, her face twisted into something evil. Something even I have never seen before.

How was this the same Innocent I grew up with when we were young? What happened to her to turn her into such a monster?

"We were clearly very close when we were younger, why did you change so much? Why do you hate me so much that you would kill me for no reason? I have no interest in Mike and I will reject him if that is what you want, but can you please stop harassing me and plotting against me in the future?" I really didn’t know what else to do apart from coaxing Innocent a little bit.
