Three Alphas, Fated To One, Played By One, But Mated To One-Chapter 71: Fear
"They are our mates! They should follow pack traditions!"
Another one added, "You’re destabilizing families!"
I watched the argument unfold with mild amusement.
These fools didn’t realize what was happening.
Valerie wasn’t destabilizing families.
She was destabilizing power, which made her dangerous. Very dangerous.
She did all this in the name of helping the female mates. So, no one would realize immediately that something was wrong with her actions.
Those who realized this would only think that she was doing this to vent the anger she had accumulated over the years of being treated like a slave.
In short, no one would ever see her as a threat. And that was what made her a dangerous player.
I had interacted with her the most over the last few years and I know for sure that Valerie is no ordinary girl. She has a brain and never did things thoughtlessly.
In that case, she was planning something. However, this worked well with me because if the Night claw pack’s power reduced or if it was in chaos, our Bloodfang pack would gain.
So, I would even support her little project.
Boris took a step forward again, clearly emboldened by the support of the others.
"Alpha Karl, this doesn’t concern you," he said.
Oh?!
I smiled faintly.
"That’s where you’re wrong."
My aura shifted slightly. Becoming more aggressive as well.
Not enough to release full Alpha pressure, but enough to remind everyone present exactly who they were speaking to.
Boris went stiff as if he hadn’t expected my reaction.
"This might concern the Luna of the Night Claw pack, but Val also happens to be my friend" I continued calmly.
"And the moment you raised your hand against her, it also became my concern."
A heavy silence fell over the courtyard.
Even the warriors who had been whispering earlier suddenly looked uneasy.
Everyone knew the implications. No one could openly attack the Luna.
Even if most of them secretly despised her.
Boris’ face turned pale.
"I wasn’t actually going to hit her," he muttered.
I almost rolled my eyes if I wasn’t trying to maintain my image.
How could such a big man be so cowardly?
No wonder they were afraid of their mates gaining some power. The women would literally wipe the floor with them if this was what the men looked like.
I couldn’t believe that over the last few years, I hadn’t noticed such a huge hole in the Night claw pack’s power.
As I was thinking about this, Valerie suddenly laughed softly.
The sound surprised everyone. It wasn’t easy to hear her laugh, but her sweet voice has always made me calm.
That was one of the reasons I could stand spending time with her even though she was a ’slave’.
"Really?" she said lightly.
Her eyes moved from Boris to me.
"Because from where I was standing, it looked very convincing. You were definitely going to hit me." She said sarcastically.
I watched as the men standing around shift uncomfortably and Boris clench his fists.
"That’s not what happened," he insisted stubbornly. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
"Oh?" Valerie tilted her head slightly.
"Then what exactly were you doing?"
That last voice was deep and masculine. Definitely not Valerie’s.
Even without looking, I knew it was my long-time friend, Mike.
Boris opened his mouth, but no words came out. He was shaking in his boots because even though Mike seemed to not care about Valerie, she was still his mate and Luna.
There was no explanation for what he had done. So, Boris remained quiet.
Everyone had seen what happened. He had raised his hand to strike his Luna. That was an unchangeable fact.
I watched Valerie carefully.
The way she spoke and positioned herself.
It was all too deliberate. She had planned this confrontation.
She had wanted it to happen.
A realization slowly formed in my mind.
She had been baiting Boris to take action. Or maybe just anyone.
Boris just happened to be too hot tempered and took the bait faster than the others.
Interesting.
Very interesting.
No wonder she looked disappointed when I stopped him mid-action. So, I had ruined her plans.
"You should apologize," I said calmly.
"What?" Boris’ head shot up and looked towards me in confusion as if he couldn’t understand a word I was saying.
"You heard me. Apologize to the Luna now."
My voice remained relaxed, but the warning beneath it was clear.
"Karl, maybe let me defend my own Luna?" Mike, who had been sidelined, spoke.
For the second time that morning, I wanted to roll my eyes.
Who does he think he is to tell me what to do?
But she is his mate after all, so I had to back down. Especially in front of so many people.
"You disrespected the Luna."
Mike said solemnly as if Valerie was his duty.
I had the urge to punch him in the face, but I kept my cool.
Valerie hadn’t accepted him anyway. And with Innocent still hanging onto him, there was no way, Valerie would give him the time of the day.
Boris’ face turned red from embarrassment and maybe fear.
He looked around and realized that more people had joined the scene and the yard was already filled with spectators.
He must have realized that things were getting out of control because he took a deep breath and stepped forward to stand in front of Valerie.
His pride struggled against his survival instinct.
He finally bowed his head and spoke softly.
"...I apologize, Luna." He said with gritted teeth.
The words sounded like they had been dragged out of his throat.
Valerie simply nodded.
"I accept. But let there not be a second time."
If I hadn’t figured out that she had baited him to take action, I would have believed her benevolence.
She looked like someone whose plan had only partially succeeded.
That confirmed my earlier suspicion.
She really had wanted him to hit her.
Why?
Even I couldn’t understand her motive.
Then, the answer came to me almost instantly.
