Chapter 88: Chapter 88: New Beginning

Back in the pack, everyone was already asleep when we returned.

We didn’t go the same way after entering the pack house because Mike headed straight to his office while I went back to my room.

When I entered my room, I wanted nothing more than to sleep.

I had been a bundle of nerves the whole night.

I might have looked confident, like I didn’t care, but I was actually very scared of messing up my first appearance.

Thankfully, everything went well.

Now I could finally relax.

I didn’t even bother turning on the lights as I went to take a shower and went to bed immediately after.

The following morning, at the training grounds, I found more women had joined the training process.

After all, who wants to remain weak if they can get stronger and protect themselves and those they love.

After breakfast, I headed to my office to continue with my coding and maybe, do some work concerning the pack.

I had already realized that if I wanted to stay out of trouble, and if I didn’t want many people interfering in my business, I just needed to do a few duties as the Luna, and that would do.

My thoughts were on the previous night’s dinner, thinking about the people I met and how I could use those connections to build myself up when Lilith’s voice interrupted my thoughts.

"Luna." She called out respectfully.

I looked up and found her waiting just outside the door of my office. Her posture was straight and her eyes scanned me quickly in worry as soon as I got close.

She looked as if she was checking for damage.

"How did last night go?" She asked curiously after finding that I was fine.

"It went okay. I made some friends." I replied with a smile.

I opened my office and invited her in.

Her hands were full, carrying files I assumed had my work for the day.

After sitting behind the desk, Lilith walked over and placed all the files on the desk.

"Here is the information you asked me to check. It took longer than expected."

She said with a shallow smile.

"Oh, is the report about those women ready?" I asked in surprise.

"Yes." she said, handing me a tablet.

"I compiled everything you requested."

I took it and my attention shifted to the content in it.

It seems that Lilith had made both soft and hard copies of the files.

The files told stories of different people. Women who married into the pack. But Lilith had gone further to compile information on other women too born in the pack.

I was shocked to find that there were many promising young women whose lives had turned ordinary after finding their mates.

Some had been aspiring scientists, warriors, or even artists.

Yet, because of their mates in the Night claw pack, their dreams stopped short.

Not because they were incapable, but because they were made to stop.

"Do you see it now?" I asked quietly.

Lilith, who stood beside me, nodded slowly. Her voice softer than normal.

"Yes. I hadn’t expected so many talents to be buried here."

"And their mates?" I asked.

Lilith looked thoughtful for a moment as if recalling what she had uncovered.

"Most hold positions of influence. There are warriors, executives, and pack or business strategists."

I leaned back in my chair.

"Which means the men in the pack have fulfilling lives. They are connected, yet the women live mediocre lives that end with nothing to show for."

That was how the structure of the Night claw pack worked.

"Luna..."

Lilith hesitated as she called me.

"Yes." I lifted my eyes from the tablet and looked at her.

"Are you sure this is the path you want to take?"

I could understand why she was asking this. Because once I choose this path, I would make enemies not just in the pack, but those who support male chauvinism.

"Yes," I said without hesitation.

I had lived as a slave for so long and I knew that even if those women looked as if they were living normal lives, they were also slaves. Prisoners locked in tight cages in the name of mate bond.

"Then we need to be careful," she said.

Of course, I knew that too. Before I got strong enough to protect myself, I couldn’t take too drastic actions.

I turned back to the files and checked more thoroughly.

I was looking to classify the people in those files because not everyone had the ability to influence others, had connections, or was willing to pioneer change.

Some were too broken, or too afraid.

"Luna, can I ask a question? Why are you really doing this?"

Lilith asked, looking hopeful but confused.

Yes, why was I doing it? It took me a while to think before replying to her.

"I could say it’s for the pack," I said slowly.

"Or for justice."

She kept waiting.

"But the truth is..." I continued,

"I don’t like seeing people reduced to something less than what they are."

Her expression changed when she heard that.

"I know what that feels like." I added.

She exhaled as if that was enough reason for her.

Silence filled the room again as if we were both reflecting on my answer.

"Then, how are we going to start?" Lilith asked curiously.

"We’ll start slowly, in fact, we have already started. Haven’t more and more women been joining us for training in the morning?"

"That makes sense." Lilith replied.

"Okay, you can go now. I have work to do." I dismissed Lilith and got back to my laptop.

I had to let my mentor know about the good news of the dinner yesterday.

I also needed to finish working on my program.

It was my gateway to leaving the pack independently.

"The dinner was a success." I sent a message to my mentor through an encrypted messaging app we made then turned all my attention to coding.

After the company was registered, I needed a complete product to introduce to clients.
