Chapter 246 -145 Confusion of Love and Passion
Two days later, deep into the night, a lone rider burst into Liuzhou City, entering the City Lord’s Mansion as if it were deserted.
After searching around and failing to find the person he sought, Zhou Mu’s expression turned distinctly unpleasant, his aura as cold and fierce as a god of death come to earth.
“Where is he?” Zhou Mu demanded harshly, grabbing a guard by the arm.
“I… I don’t know!” the captured guard stammered, terror-stricken, “Commandery Prince, spare my life, spare my life, I truly do not know where the City Lord is!”

Under the moonlight, the gold mask glinted coldly.
This mask was the trademark of Prince Mu! Throughout the heavens, only he would wear it!
The guard thrown to the ground hurriedly knelt upright, “Reporting to the Commandery Prince, the City Lord left the city two days ago to search for Lady Changsheng and has not returned since.”
Zhou Mu glanced at him once, then swept away like a gust of wind.
After a while, the guard finally dared to sneak a peek, and seeing no sign of Zhou Mu, he sat down heavily on the ground, gasping for air.
“Boss, was that just Prince Mu?” the guards kneeling behind him also came to their senses, cautiously asking.
The head guard nodded, “With that commanding presence, even without the trademark mask, I would not have mistaken him.”
“But wasn’t Prince Mu deployed to Southern Fujian? How could he suddenly come back? Abandoning his post, that’s…”
“Shut up!” the head guard snapped tensely, “No one thinks you’re mute if you don’t speak!”
The admonished guard obediently closed his mouth, looking confusedly at his superior.
“If you are smart, pretend nothing happened! And don’t mention this is Prince Mu’s turf; he could crush us like ants with ease, even if this were the Capital City. If Prince Mu wanted to wipe us out, it would be as easy as blinking an eye!” the head guard spoke solemnly, then immediately commanded, “Spread the word, there are thieves sneaking into the City Lord’s Mansion at night, go conduct a thorough search!”
After causing such a commotion, it was crucial to cover it up.
As the head guard rose to his feet, he realized his back was drenched in cold sweat.
Prince Mu! Indeed, as if he were a deity of the Divine Residence, he was certainly not someone a lowly soldier like himself could confront…
In the depths of Baili Mountain, a shadow moved swiftly and agilely between ancient trees, quickly reaching the area around the Mountain Stronghold of the Dark Camp.
With traps everywhere and guards patrolling both in the open and hidden, even Zhou Mu had a hard time making it inside the Dark Camp.
The bedroom where Gu Changsheng stayed was easy to find, as she liked to hang curtains outside the window for a dreamlike beauty.
When Zhou Mu pushed the door, he was finally spotted by a patrolling guard.
Upon seeing the familiar gold mask, the guard’s face turned utterly dark, feeling as if the sky were falling.
Raising his hand to stop the guard from calling out, Zhou Mu closed the door behind him and entered the inner room.
On the bed, Gu Changsheng’s hair, black as ink, hung down over the edge of the bed, as she slept soundly.
Putting the mask down on the bedside stool, Zhou Mu sat slowly by the bed and reached out to cover her tranquil sleeping face.
Her brows furrowed slightly, and her long eyelashes fluttered as Gu Changsheng slowly opened her eyes halfway.
“You’re back…”
Zhou Mu paused, a flicker of a smile crossing his eyes as he nodded.
That simple phrase, “you’re back,” surprisingly stirred a warmth in his heart, as if a wife awaiting her husband’s return, such a common phrase yet it felt as refreshing as a spring breeze.
“The daybed is there, the quilts and pillows are all ready, go to sleep yourself,” Gu Changsheng said drowsily, pointing towards the window.
Sure enough, an elongated daybed was there, its cool quilt and soft pillows neatly arranged on top.
All the anger Zhou Mu had been harboring suddenly vanished.
“Where have you hidden him? Even if you don’t kill him, you should have let me discipline him to vent my anger,” Zhou Mu gently adjusted Gu Changsheng’s disheveled hair, speaking softly, suddenly understanding in the moment he saw her—someone as proud as her either likes or dislikes, never beating around the bush, let alone anything as egregious as infidelity.
Yawning, Gu Changsheng buried her head deeper into the pillow, her voice carrying a hint of irritation at having her peaceful dream disturbed, “He just slipped on a stone and stumbled towards me, it was Yuan Bao who jumped to conclusions in haste.”
Zhou Mu nodded, realizing he had been overly concerned, “If that’s the case, why did you need to hide him so nervously? I searched the entire City Lord’s Mansion and couldn’t find him.”
