Time Travel: The Noble Family-Chapter 1255 - 518: Destroying the Painting (Part 2)
Mingzhu looked at Yueyao’s expression, growing increasingly angry. The house was on fire, yet this woman didn’t seem to be the least bit anxious. What on earth was going on in her head? "Don’t think just because my cousin likes you, nothing will happen. If he decides to divorce you, you’ll be crying too late when the time comes." As she said this, seeing Yueyao still indifferent, she started scolding again, "Are you really like an Emperor not worried while the eunuch is in a hurry? It’s possible he might divorce you one moment, and marry another the next. If that happens, Kexin and her siblings will be mistreated by a stepmother. Four children mistreated to death by a stepmother, would you be satisfied then?" Mingzhu became angrier as she spoke. She always thought Yueyao was capable, someone she deeply respected. But now, look at what she’s doing!
Yueyao could no longer maintain her composure as she heard Mingzhu curse the four children, frowning as she said, "There’s no basis for any of this. What are you doing cursing the children for no reason!"
Mingzhu, seeing Yueyao’s demeanor, almost exploded with anger, "I’m about to die of anger, and you act as if this has nothing to do with you."
Yueyao smiled, "What’s there to be anxious about? It’s not like I went to the Xunfang Pavilion. Once people realize I wasn’t the one who went there, and it’s all made up by the people at the pavilion, the rumors will collapse on their own."
Mingzhu replied, not in the best of moods, "Do you think it’s that easy?"
Yueyao said, "It’s as hard as it is easy." If it were any other rumor, she wouldn’t care, but when it involves the four children, she couldn’t afford to be careless.
Mingzhu, seeing that Yueyao had a plan in mind, felt a bit more at ease, "They say three heads are better than one Zhuge Liang. Tell me, what’s your plan? If there are any flaws, we can tweak it."
Yueyao’s plan was simple. It involved getting the person who went to Xunfang Pavilion that day to appear, while she showed up somewhere else, so the rumor would collapse: "The problem now is finding someone who looks similar in height and appearance to Xiang Wei."
Xiang Wei understood Yueyao’s point, "You mean to find a man to dress like I did that day, while you entertain guests with Mingzhu at the manor?" This time, Xiang Wei didn’t dare volunteer herself.
Yueyao nodded, "This is the most reliable method. The most difficult part now is finding this stand-in." Without this stand-in, everything would be in vain. This time it’s about dispelling rumors, so there can’t be any mistakes. A man has to take the place, as putting Xiang Wei on the spot would risk someone verifying the truth, and even if it’s not her, it would still damage her reputation.
Xiang Wei recovered from her confusion and said, "Actually, it’s not that hard. I didn’t look like this after doing my makeup that day. All we need is someone with a similar height and face shape to mine, which isn’t too difficult."
Mingzhu had a different opinion, "The people in the brothel have a keen eye and might notice it’s not the same person."
Xiang Wei smiled with a touch of coldness, "There’s no need to worry. As long as He Feng recognizes that person as me, the testimony of Xunfang Pavilion won’t hold much water." This rumor benefits Xunfang Pavilion, but who would believe their spoken words? Besides, once He Feng changes his tune, the people from Xunfang Pavilion won’t dare smear Yueyao’s name any longer.
Mingzhu pondered for a moment and nodded, "It’s a good idea, but finding such a person is indeed difficult. Do you want me to ask my husband for help?"
Xiang Wei shook her head, "No need, I can handle this myself." Having one more person involved only adds more trouble.
Yueyao glanced at Xiang Wei before turning to Mingzhu and said, "You should inform your husband about this. He’s experienced and might think more comprehensively than we can. If there are any loopholes, he would spot them."
Mingzhu nodded with a smile, "Alright."
Feeling a bit guilty, Yueyao said, "Coming to Suzhou, I’ve caused you both quite a bit of trouble. I really apologize for that." The troubles she got into would, more or less, implicate Niu Yanghui and Mingzhu, yet Mingzhu didn’t seem to mind at all. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Mingzhu jokingly scolded, "Are you being this polite with me because I haven’t scolded you enough yet?" The chaos outside was certainly impactful, but Mingzhu didn’t let it weigh on her mind, her only concern being for Yueyao.
By evening, Mingzhu had already discussed the matter with Niu Yanghui. After talking it over, thinking about all the malicious rumors outside, Mingzhu looked upset, "Husband, I feel so oppressed." Those people made Yueyao seem like a rat in a sewer, wanting everyone to beat her up—it’s just too hateful. Never mind that Yueyao didn’t visit the brothel, even if she did, does it really warrant such slander?
