Time Travel: The Noble Family-Chapter 1316 - 539: Return (Part 2)
Yueyao then led the four children to the main gate to welcome them. As soon as they reached the gate, they heard a rush of hoofbeats.
Brother Xuxu tightly grabbed Brother Feifei’s arm and exclaimed excitedly: "Second Brother, it must be Dad coming back on horseback."
Brother Feifei winced in pain but ultimately did not push Brother Xuxu’s hand away, instead he looked toward the gateway.
Soon, a group of people riding big horses appeared before everyone. The leader was riding a tall black horse, dressed in military attire, looking impressive.
Brother Xuxu’s hand tightened: "Second Brother, this must be Dad."
Brother Feifei was originally focused intently on the man on the horse, but when the pain in his arm interrupted again, he finally couldn’t stand it and pulled Brother Xuxu’s hand off his arm: "Dad is down, hurry and go over." 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Yueyao looked at the man standing before her; he was darker, thinner, but his spirit was very good. Yueyao smiled and said, "You’re back?" Just three simple words, yet they carried countless thoughts.
An Zhichen nodded slightly, his expression soft as he responded: "Mm, I’m back." As if he hadn’t been away for seven years, but had just gone away for a few days.
This warmth between husband and wife was quickly interrupted by a soft voice. Kexin called out weakly: "Dad..."
Yueyao smiled slightly without explanation.
As An Zhichen looked at Kexin, his gaze became even softer: "Kexin has grown into a young lady." When he left, she was just a little bigger than a handful, but now she’s almost reached his waist.
Brother Shengsheng, Brother Feifei, and Brother Xuxu, seeing this, shouted in unison: "Dad." The sound was loud and strong, not only Yueyao but also a group of people following behind An Zhichen laughed.
Looking at his three sons, An Zhichen nodded and said: "Come inside!"
Brother Xuxu had been extremely excited, but An Zhichen’s words were like a bucket of water poured on his head, instantly chilling him to the core.
An Zhichen and Yueyao walked in front, with Kexin behind them, while Brother Shengsheng and his two brothers were at the back.
Brother Xuxu felt a bit anxious inside and asked Brother Shengsheng softly: "Big Brother, do you think Dad doesn’t..." This meeting was entirely different than Brother Xuxu had imagined. He believed that since his father had been in the Northwest for so many years without seeing them, a meeting would at least involve a hug, right? But instead, it was so cold and indifferent.
Just as Brother Xuxu was speaking, he felt someone looking at him. Brother Shengsheng raised his head to see his father staring at him, and the sharp look made Brother Shengsheng shiver instantly, daring not to reply to Brother Xuxu.
Brother Shengsheng was also startled; his father’s gaze was too terrifying!
Yueyao smiled again without speaking. Since Brother Xuxu was the youngest, Kexin, Brother Shengsheng, and Brother Feifei usually gave in to him, along with Yueyao’s previous tendency of favoritism, resulting in Brother Feifei’s actions being a bit unruly. Thanks to Mr. Min’s guidance in the past half year, it has improved quite a bit.
Back at the main courtyard, the four children waited outside while Yueyao accompanied An Zhichen inside to change clothes.
After their parents went inside, Brother Xuxu said quietly: "Brother, Second Brother, do you think Dad doesn’t like us?" His father was too indifferent towards them, making Brother Xuxu inevitably think that way.
Brother Shengsheng remembered his father’s gaze earlier and was still apprehensive. However, he believed that his father shouldn’t dislike them; they are his own sons, not adopted.
Brother Feifei spoke up seeing this: "Stop spouting nonsense. Dad is a great general; he’s used to being strict with his subordinates, that’s why he’s like that." Brother Feifei meant that his father’s manner was habitual, not deliberately aimed at them.
Brother Xuxu didn’t quite agree with this opinion and asked Kexin, who hadn’t spoken: "Sis, what do you think Dad means?" Brother Xuxu had seen very clearly that his father was much better to his sister than to them, not only smiling but also speaking to her.
Kexin agreed with Brother Feifei’s point of view.
Yueyao accompanied An Zhichen into the bedroom before speaking: "You did that deliberately, didn’t you?" Not just the three children, even Yueyao felt that An Zhichen’s earlier expression was too frightening. Yueyao didn’t believe An Zhichen would lack discretion like that.
An Zhichen chuckled lightly: "Mm, the three boys have quite the courage. Especially the second one, he has the demeanor of a great general; the eldest and the youngest need more honing." His subordinates were all obedient under his earlier demeanor, but the second one remained composed, which made An Zhichen very satisfied.
Yueyao laughed and said: "What great general demeanor, Brother Feifei will follow the civil path."
An Zhichen had already received Yueyao’s letter, knowing Brother Feifei was apprenticed under Old Mr. Wang. He didn’t oppose it; as long as his son could make a name for himself, whether in civil or military matters, it didn’t matter: "The eldest and the youngest need more training."
Yueyao took out a set of dark-colored clothes from the cabinet, clothes she had personally made according to An Zhichen’s measurements: "From now on, Brother Shengsheng and Brother Xuxu are yours to teach." Sons are primarily taught by their fathers, she only needed to guide Kexin properly.
Seeing the patterns embroidered at the corners of the clothes, An Zhichen smiled and asked: "Did you make these?" He knew Yueyao was skilled in embroidery, but she seldom had time to make clothes for him.
Yueyao nodded slightly, then helped An Zhichen change into the clothes.
Once changed, An Zhichen gently embraced Yueyao and said: "These years have been hard on you." Managing four children and handling affairs inside and outside, while facing people with ulterior motives from outside. Fortunately, Yueyao’s tenacity allowed her to endure.
Yueyao’s eyes felt a bit gritty, but she quickly gathered her emotions, saying hoarsely: "Whatever you want to say, let’s talk tonight; the children are still waiting!"
An Zhichen kissed Yueyao’s forehead gently and said: "Alright."
