Timeless Hunter: Blood Of Old-Chapter 15: Vs the Pack
The branch he was previously standing on was cut cleanly by it claws. It had moved so fast he couldn’t follow it even with his hawk eyes.
Had he not used future sight he would’ve died. He realised skills could defy the idea of stats.
Stats alone couldn’t tell him how powerful or even fast his enemy was. As he was falling he shot a mana empowered arrow.
It cut through the rain like a streak, just as it was about to hit the wolf. It tapped it foot on the tree.
He saw everything clearly, shadows covered it legs like black flames and it moved so fast it turned into a blur.
He has never seen anything move with that much speed. The arrow missed and pierced through a tree in the distance.
He could see it pack members rushing towards them. He was already struggling to survive against it, he couldn’t afford to be surrounded.
He grabbed the branch of the next tree with his left hand and swung himself onto it. He looked around trying to see where the wolf was.
He saw a shadow blurring on his left, the second it was on his right. He realised it was running circles around him trying to find the best time to attack.
That fit the hunting style of wolves. He used his mana to strengthen his body but this time he kept pouring more mana.
Especially to his legs then he poured more into his eyes. His perception increased, it seemed the more mana he used the stronger hawk eyes got.
He wondered if that would work with future sight but immediately dismissed the idea, future sight was different.
He couldn’t continuously pour mana into it, once he used it, it took the amount of mana it needed and showed him a second into the future.
He was now able to see the shadow of the alpha, instead of fighting he turned and jumped into the next tree and ran.
The wolf howled and chased after him, it was taster, much faster than he was. He turned and shot two arrows at it.
With so much mana in his muscles and veins he felt his drawing speed being much faster as well.
In only a second he had already shot two arrows which the wolf easily evaded. He also noticed his control over his mana was getting better with each passing second.
He continuously poured more mana into his body, especially his arms, legs and eyes. The good thing was that he was barely wasting it.
It was similar to when he used it to enhance the bow string but even better. Even though he was using the mana it was still within his body.
The amount he was expending with each passing second was much lower than the mana he was actually using.
The only thing draining his mana was hawk eyes, even if he was enhancing a body part, it was still a skill and skills drained mana.
The wolf reached him in a blink of an eye, it sharp claws cut straight for his neck like daggers. He raised his bow to block.
The claws cut the thick string like it was nothing but paper. However that managed to save his life.
He crashed on the ground and rolled then jumped back into his feet in a split moment, he immediately pulled out his katana and started running.
He tied the thinner string as fast as he could then hanged his bow on his shoulder. He poured mana into the katana then turned and blocked behind him.
Cling, sparks flew through the rain when it claws met his sword. The force sent him flying back dozens of metres.
He broke through a tree and lay on the ground but his body enhanced by mana only felt a bit of pain without any significant damage.
He stood up and realised he was almost surrounded. He had poured so much mana into his arms and legs the veins had ballooned up.
He realised there was a limit to how much mana he can use to enhance his body. However he did not care, not right now while surrounded.
The alpha glared at him and growled, it pounced, it paws sent mud flying through the air.
Akaris poured so much mana into his eyes they bled, tears of blood fell down his cheeks but he was able to see it.
Even as a blurry shadow he was able to follow it movements. He swung his mana infused katana at it.
The sword moved so fast it drew a blue streak across the rainy sky, the rain drops were cut cleanly in half.
This caught the alpha by surprise but it still managed to grab the sword by it mouth and flung him across the forest with a simple swing of it head.
He flew over 15 metres away, the other wolves pounced while he was mid air but in his current state, he was much stronger than before.
His veins throbbed and shifted like living worms beneath his skin. He spun mid air and kicked off a tree.
The tree cracked from the force, the veins on his legs busted out and blood flew through the rain.
He lunged at one of the approaching wolves, it failed to react and his sword drew an arc through the rain and it head flew off.
He slid through the mud and cut off both fronts legs of another. Those two wolves had not expected that move and were caught off guard.
The others reacted and pounced on him from left and right, the alpha attacked from the front without using it skill.
This made it much slower than before but still fast enough to put his body on a massive strain just to keep up with it.
His eyes could follow it just fine but everytime he dodged or blocked it attack, his veins would bust open.
He was covered by his own blood which was washed away by the rain then he was covered by it again and again.
However he was able to hold his own, the alpha gave him the most trouble but the more he fought it the better he got.
His swordsmanship got better, he adjusted his stance, his slashes and parries to be the most effective while using the most minimal movements.
" Roaaaar" He roared like a beast and poured a massive amount of mana into his legs then pounced on the wolf alpha.
