Timeless Hunter: Blood Of Old-Chapter 19: Mana Arrow
Sparks flew when the arrow hit the metallic skin of the goblin outcast. The force sent it flying to the other end of the building.
It grabbed on the roof just as it was about to fall off. Akaris could see a dent where his arrow landed but there was no actual wound.
It coughed a bit of blood then let go, it fell on the other side of the building and he lost sight of it.
Before it did though, he could swear he saw it glaring at him. He took a deep breath and went back inside.
He planned to stay here until his body healed itself. Some time passed and over time the rat noises grew louder.
He started getting nervous, considering every animal he had seen had mutated, perhaps rats did too.
That would be a nightmare, their skittering grew louder with each passing moment, he was certain now.
These rats were trying to find a way to reach him, he placed his bow and arrows and his katana close to him incase they do reach this place.
He knew how isolated this penthouse was but rats were sneaky things who can get into a lot of places.
He could imagine mutated rats would be even better at it. Suddenly he saw a shadow dive down outside his window.
He rushed to the window with his arrow already nocked ready for anything. He looked up but couldn’t see anything.
Not at first but a flash of lightning revealed shadows floating in the sky. No that was wrong.
It was as if they were standing on top of the clouds waiting. The shadows looked like owls, massive owls large enough to rip a cow apart.
Suddenly the shadow flew back up right Infront of his face and he saw it clearly. It was a pitch black owl.
On it talons was a rat, it seemed the rat either came close to the window or tried to climb up becoming owl food as a result.
However that didn’t make him happy or relaxed, it meant rats wanted him dead so much so that they would risk their own lives for it.
Just as he finished thinking that, he heard their chirping below, he looked down and saw them climbing the side of the building.
There were so many of them they looked like a curtain being draped over the building but upwards.
He drew his bow ready to release the arrow when multiple shadows dove down past him silently.
Even through the rain and wind the owls were so silent even with his heightened senses he couldn’t hear them. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
He took a step back inside so one of them wouldn’t end up snatching him up instead, these owls looked dangerous.
They were fast too, they snatched the rats faster than the little vermin could retreat back into their hiding holes.
However there were still too many rats for them to catch or so he thought. Instead of flying back up with them.
The owls ate them right there, the rats were only the size of a house cats, to owls this large they were nothing more than a snack.
He watched then feast on the rats but the little things were stubborn and ferocious. Tens of other jumped one owl.
It was smaller, obviously a young one, they bit it wings and plunked it feathers. Their weight dropped it down.
The other owls helped it, they killed off the rats on it back freeing it. The owl was pissed and attacked in a frenzy.
The rats were getting closer and closer to his room ignoring the owls who were killing them.
He wondered why they wanted his dead so bad. He starting shooting his arrows as well, each one piercing through dozens of rats.
However there were still too many, in his desperation there was suddenly a change but not for the better.
An owl suddenly screeched them fell off, he saw the scorpion across the street. Before he could react it shot it stinger.
It missed and the stinger pierced through the wall next to him. The owls seemed to fear the silent stalker and flew up.
This freed more rats giving them a chance to attack him. He couldn’t focus on both, he drew his arrow and infused it with mana.
It shot through the rain like a blue streak and managed to hit the scorpion. As expected it bounced off it hard shell.
He clicked his tongue and ducked, it stinger shot above his head breaking the furniture in the kitchen.
He grabbed his quiver and katana and ran to the elevator. The rats rushed into the building right then.
But they were a second too late, the elevator closed and it dropped down, they jumped on top of it.
Bang bang bang, he could hear them jumping on it. Their added weight caused it to fall faster.
Eventually the cable snapped just before it hit the ground. It doors opened and he ran out.
Most of the rats were trapped in the elevator shaft, with no spaces between the elevator and the walls.
They would have to eat their way through steel and concrete. However there were still a few dozens of not hundred rats on the first floor.
They jumped him the moment he appeared, knowing he couldn’t rely on his bow he pulled out his sword.
He didn’t bother enhancing it with mana, he enhanced his body instead, he grew even faster and stronger.
The rats were fast but not as much as he was, his sword turned into blur splitting them in half with each swing.
He ran out of the building with them on his tail. The scorpion saw him and attacked but he was already expecting that.
He rolled and ducked behind a car, then continued running into an alley. The rats chased him firi a while until he lost them.
The scorpion chased after him, with it gone the owls hunted the rats who were outside again leading to another slaughter.
He on the other hand used rain as cover and ran into another building. It was an industrial building with only a few goblins and a hobgoblin inside.
He shot an arrow and killed the hobgoblin then finished off the goblins. He rushed to grab the arrow then sensed the scorpion was already there.
With no time he ran to hide, he knew this wouldn’t be enough, it can smell him out or sense.
He wasn’t sure how but it was tracking him. He reached behind to grab an arrow then stopped.
He had only taken a single quiver and left the other one behind. The worst part was that he was only left with a single arrow now.
He sneaked onto the second floor of the industrial building. It was huge, really huge with a lot of large machinery.
He hid behind one of them and drew his bow then poured his mana into the bow and didn’t stop, he wanted to pour as much mana as he could and deliver as much damage as he can.
He stood there pouring more and more mana, the scorpion was still hunting him but the mechanical smell seemed to have hidden him well enough.
The mana around the arrow grew so dense it looked like blue flames yet he still did not stop.
It condensed around the arrow, instead of soft blue light or flames the mana now looked like another arrow around the arrow.
The original arrow started shaking them it broke. Akaris was startled and terrified, that was his last arrow.
However he stopped when he realised the mana was still there in the form of an arrow and it was physical.
