Timeless Hunter: Blood Of Old-Chapter 56: Curse Of Rot
Even Akaris was suprised by that level of strength, he realised she had grown stronger since the last time they sparred.
He turned away from her, she and the echo can deal with the other undead, he turned his attention towards the zombie ape.
The creature was still sprinting towards them with a burning chest, it didn’t even seem to mind the flames.
Akaris drew his bow and a mana arrow formed, he released the arrow straight for the zombie’s head.
His hawk eyes showed him its weak spot was directly on its head, just above its eyes. The arrow landed without any interference.
However he had underestimated how tough this creature was, the arrow barely managed to pierce a few centimetres in.
The weak point was in its brain itself meaning he would have to pierce through the skull but he couldn’t even fully pierce through the tough hide and dried zombie flesh.
He frowned, with the current power of his arrows, he doubted he would be able to do anything to it.
The mana arrow fizzled out, he shot another, piercing through the same spot then cancelled it.
Mana arrows can last a few seconds on their own after piercing through a target, he can either extend or lower that time.
He lowered it this time and cancelled the arrows as soon as they failed to pierce further in then shot another arrow at exactly the same spot.
Even with his high level archery and high perception, precision of this level required him to aim for at least a second.
Second after second, arrows pierced through the head of the zombie ape, while on their own they couldn’t do much.
After shooting multiple of them on the same spot they managed to drill a hole that reached the skull.
Through it he saw the grey skull of the zombie ape, it looked like some kind of metal, it was even shining.
He knew piercing through that will be even harder. He calculated and realised the zombie ape will take about 4 seconds to catch up at its speed.
He drew his bow but did shoot another arrow, nearly three seconds passed and a much dark arrow with a larger head formed.
He released it, the exploding arrow was not as fast as his normal arrows but it packed a lot more destructive power.
The arrow pierced through the hole then exploded, a wave of blue mana resembling blue flames spread out like a ball of fire.
It packed more power than a missile, the explosion spread for nearly five metres and the shockwave followed.
It sent the nearby undead flying, their bodies broke into multiple pieces before joining back together and continued to chase them.
The zombie ape’s head tilted back from the force as if it would fall then it used two of its four arms to balance itself.
Akaris was already drawing his bow and forming another arrow by then, the zombie roared and continued pouncing towards them.
Another arrow formed and before it could react the arrow exploded on its head again and this time its giant body fell back and crashed on the other undead.
Akaris was already drawing his bowstring, when the zombie ape stood up it was met with another exploding arrow.
It was sent crashing on the ground again, Akaris’s echo opened the distance leaving the ape in the dust.
It roared and Akaris was about to release another exploding arrow when he saw bones flying towards them like cannons.
" Shit." He cursed, the zombie ape had grabbed the nearest undead and threw them at Akaris.
Akaris knew he couldn’t block this with his body and he used mana wave then released the arrow he had formed which exploded on the ape’s chest, his mana wave and the bones collided and reached a stalemate for a split second.
The mana wave was stopped from expanding in that direction which was a surprise.
Then it shattered like a bubble, bone shrapnel flew at him like bullets and pierced through his mana skin and body.
His left leg, shoulder and stomach were pierced through, fortunately none managed to touch any vital part of his body.
But these bones not only beloved to undead monsters but had been washed by the blood pool every day.
They were contaminated with viruses and as expected, he felt the wounds burning up and he looked down only to see the area around those wounds turning black.
( Warning, player has been afflicted with the curse of rot." " Shit shit shit." He cursed outloud drawing Oriana’s attention.
She jumped towards him and looked at his wounds, " Fuck, Akaris this is bad, if we don’t stop..."
" Watch out!" He shouted, warning her, she turned around and activated her beast soul turning a black giant.
Her bone whips lashed out and nocked the flying bones from the air, a few managed to get through.
They bounced off her body creating the sound of clashing metal and shattered into tiny fragments.
The force still made her take too steps back but not a single bone managed to reach Akaris.
" Thank you. " He thanked her, if she didn’t protect him, he would’ve had to use mana wave again but he didn’t have time to power up a stronger one.
He took out the bone shrapnel then pulled out light bringer and used bolster then placed the blade on the wounds one by one.
As expected, the light from bolster started burning the curse away but it was much slower than he had expected.
Unfortunately without more allies, bolster cannot grow stronger, in fact it was weaker than last time.
Still stronger than when he was alone but not as strong as when he had just used it a few minutes ago.
He looked up and saw the light seemed to be burning Oriana, it was not at the level of undead but it was making her uncomfortable.
She explained, " This beast soul came from an undead monster, it seemed to be weak against your light."
He understood, the only reason it wasn’t ignited into flames is simply because it was still Oriana but it was still weakening her.
But he couldn’t cancel bolster, he had to burn the curse away or it might really lead to his death, he apologised to her.
" It’s fine, you can pay me back after we get through this."
He nodded with a grateful smile, having allies was really better than being alone.
