Timeless Hunter: Blood Of Old-Chapter 8: Scorpion
He peaked his head and saw them looking around but with such low visibility they couldn’t see him at all.
He sent mana into his eyes activating the active ability of hawk eyes. His eyes grew multiple times stronger like binoculars.
Even through this curtain of rain and wind he could even see the subtle changes on their expressions.
He nocked an arrow and pulled his bow, he released the arrow but the rain and wind diverted it.
He missed by a mile, he clicked his tongue and tried again but this time he infused mana into the arrow.
It cut through the rain like a blue streak and pierced the head of one of the imps. The others noticed.
He hid but it was too late, the imp warrior was intelligent enough to track the direction of the arrow.
Fortunately their eyesight was no where near as good as his and they found it hard to see through the rain. He ran and jumped to the roof of the third building.
His footsteps made undetectable by the rain and the howling winds. While running he was occasionally searching for the scorpion.
He couldn’t see it but he knew it was coming, he prayed it would go to the first building so it would fight the imps instead.
He tried searching for another solution but nothing came to mind. He looked up and with his better eyesight he could see birds flying above.
Not just any birds but the soul screechers themselves. There were too many of them to count.
He took out his phone to check the time but regretted it a moment too late. He was about to shove it back to his pocket so it wouldn’t get wet when he realised it was fine.
He remembered he didn’t check the model and when he did he couldn’t help but laugh. An idea had just hit him.
" Pity to lose such an expensive phone." He took off a t-shirt from the many clothes he was wearing.
Wrapped it around the phone but not the speaker. He looked at the imp and his subordinates who were still searching for him.
He set a time on the phone then threw it as hard as he could. It landed on the roof the imps were on but didn’t break.
Not only was the model durable it was also wrapped tightly in a large t-shirt. The imps saw it and came close.
They had no idea what it was. " 3,2,1." When he counted to one the alarm rang loudly. Even under this rain it could still be heard clearly.
The screechers above heard and screamed, the imps held their ears in pain. The two monster groups faced each other.
The imp warrior screamed, his scream was silent yet piercing. Their battle continued, the imps were outnumbered and weaker.
They were ripped to shreds in seconds leaving only the imp warrior who was still fighting off the soul screechers.
The imp was strong and fast, his sword cut through the rain like a blur killing the soul screechers.
But there too many of them, their screams were getting to him and he was covered in scratch wounds.
Suddenly more imps showed up, they came out of all buildings in the surrounding including the one whose roof he was on.
He was forced to hide, fortunately their attention was on the call of the imp warrior. They jumped into that roof and started fighting the soul screechers.
Hundreds of imps faced dozens of soul screechers. He was glad he was not caught in the middle of that.
He saw an opportunity to harvest experience points, unfortunately he didn’t have enough arrows.
He couldn’t help but curse at that. He used his inspect ability. If he was going to use the few arrows he had they had to be on the strongest there.
He nocked the first arrow, aimed and released just in the right moment. A soul screecher was just about to attack an imp when an arrow pierced through it head.
It fell down, the imp didn’t even question what had just happened, it was happy it enemy was dead.
Another soul screecher fell, the next to fall was the strongest imp after the imp warrior. Even after than he was yet to reach level 8.
It seemed the higher your level the more experience you needed. He already knew that from video games but this was still too much.
Especially considering he was a pioneer and gained more experience for each kill. It really seemed unfair.
He had five more arrows left, the abyss spawns were still killing each other. The soul screechers were now outnumbered but they weren’t losing.
Two bigger soul screechers were facing the imp warrior two on one. Their screams created visible sound waves that blew away the rain and wind.
The imp warrior fought with all he had but he was still covered in wounds. All three of them were covered in wounds.
He nocked an arrow and waited, he poured mana into the arrow. His mind cleared, the three abyss spawns continued fighting unaware of the hunter lurking.
Eventually they reached the point of extreme exhaustion. They all seemed to realise that and tried to break off.
He let his arrow lose, it pierced through the heard of one of the soul screechers. This caught the other two by surprised.
The imp warrior recognised the arrows, a second arrow pierced through the back of the other soul screecher.
The imp warrior saw where the arrow came from, he flapped his wings and flew towards him but that was a mistake.
Visibility was more impeded in the air, not to mention it was out of strength and being rocked around by the heavy winds.
Before if could reach his building he pierced an arrow through it chest then a second through it head killing.
( Killed Elite soul screecher, experience gained. killed Elite soul screecher, experience gained. Killed imp warrior, experience gained. Player has reached level 8, +1 free stat.)
The imp fell down and crashed on the alley between the two buildings. He clicked his tongue.
" Damnit my arrow." The rest of the soul screechers and imps immediately ran away in fear.
" That’s right you better run." He shouted but not enough to be heard. He jumped into the second building and collected his arrows.
He was about to jump to the original building when he felt himself being watched. He raised his head and hanging over the edge of the first building was the scorpion.
No, it wasn’t just hanging it was climbing it, their eyes met. "Oh so that’s why they ran."
