Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 137: Can’t Even Protect My Own Girlfriend
Miles sat alone in a booth, numbly drinking, one glass after another.
Vera Yves gripped her glass tightly. He must be like this because of Jane Shea, since ever since returning from her place, he seemed to have something on his mind.
Miles downed another glass as loud discussions reached his ears.
"What a national goddess; her mom was a dancer. Do you think she’s anything good? With that background, to reach her current status, who knows how many men she’s been with already!"
"Doesn’t she stay at this hotel too?"
"Got any connections? Introduce me. If I could sleep with her, my trip wouldn’t be in vain!"
"With the little money you’ve got in your pocket, for a celebrity of her caliber, unless you’ve got millions, do you think she’d sleep with you!" 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
The group laughed lewdly, their words becoming increasingly intolerable.
"Bam!" A glass smashed onto their table.
"What the hell!" The man who was speaking the loudest was cut by glass shards on his face and shouted furiously, "Who the hell is messing with me!"
The next second, someone grabbed his collar.
"Bam!" A punch landed on his face, causing the man to scream in pain, "Who the hell are you!"
Miles acted with rage, punching the man’s face repeatedly.
The man’s companions realized what was happening and rushed over. Miles, having drunk quite a bit, was dizzy and his movements were clumsy. After landing a few punches, he was pulled away by several men.
The man who was hit rubbed his face, "Dare to hit me! Beat him up, beat him to death!"
Vera reacted and called the police, watching as several men picked up nearby chairs and bottles, surrounding Miles.
Miles was hit on the arm, but he managed to grab one of the chairs and started fighting back against the group.
The man who had been punched called for reinforcements, his fury palpable.
Vera squeezed through the onlookers, seeing that Miles was at a disadvantage, she rushed over, placing herself in front of him, "All of you stop, I’ve already called the police!"
"Calling the police is good, we can get this madman arrested for random assault!"
The man looked at Vera and sneered, "Is he your boyfriend? How about you keep me company tonight and I won’t pursue this with him!"
"Bam!" Miles directly slammed the chair in his hand at the man.
The man couldn’t avoid it and took a hard hit, gritting his teeth and shouting, "Beat him, beat him to death!"
Miles shielded Vera behind him, but more than ten people rushed forward, and the spectators, fearing for their safety, backed away.
Seeing Miles protecting Vera closely, the group began to attack Vera.
Miles took several hits on his body.
Vera was so anxious she almost burst into tears, "Stop fighting!"
Just when Miles was about to collapse, a figure walked into the crowd, kicking aside a man trying to grab Vera.
Vera looked up and saw Winston Valentine’s stern face.
Someone else attacked, but Winston swiftly kicked them away, picking up a nearby chair, and with a cold stare aimed at Miles, "Counselor Monroe, you can’t even protect your own girlfriend!"
Miles gritted his teeth, "Winston, take Vera and leave!"
Upon hearing this, Vera instinctively hugged him, "Miles, I don’t want to leave! The police will be here soon!"
Winston looked at her instinctive action and ruthlessly kicked away another person trying to attack.
"None of you are leaving today!"
The situation became chaotic again as Miles held Vera in his arms, struggling to cope. Suddenly, a heavy blow landed on his arm.
In the next second, someone targeted his knee, causing Miles to kneel in pain.
Winston also got hit on the arm, and someone pulled out a folding knife aiming to stab him, which he caught with one hand, while others attacked his shoulder.
Winston’s eyes glanced over at Vera, noticing that she only had eyes for Miles, never sparing him a glance.
So this was how she felt at the time when he was protecting Cecilia Vaughn in his arms?
She shouldn’t have felt as much pain as he did, after all, her concern for him was always pitifully little.
Miles tried to get up, but his knee hurt too much and he was dizzy. Someone swung a chair at his head with force.
Vera instinctively lunged forward, shielding him with her body, and closed her eyes.
"Bang!"
The pain she had imagined did not come. Someone pulled her into an embrace, followed by another "bang," the sound of a bottle shattering.
In the crowd, someone shouted loudly, "The police are here!"
The crowd scattered in a rush.
The pressure on her body suddenly eased.
Vera instinctively looked at Miles, whom she was shielding, "Miles, are you okay?"
Miles shook his head, noticing the blood on her hand, and asked worriedly, "Vera, are you hurt?"
Vera remembered something and turned her gaze to Winston.
Winston was sitting on the ground, leaning against the sofa, breathing with difficulty.
Blood dripped down his temple as he looked at her with calm, indifferent eyes, "Vera, there’s really no place for me in your heart at all."
Vera was stung by his gaze, looking at the increasing blood on his face, she began trembling with fear and rushed to his side, repeatedly wiping off the blood on his face.
His wound was on his head, and Vera didn’t dare to touch it carelessly.
"Call an ambulance!" Vera looked around, "Please, someone help call an ambulance!"
Winston grabbed her hand, and this time Vera didn’t pull away, "Just hold on a bit longer."
Winston struggled to approach her, his voice weak, staring into her tear-filled eyes, "Vera, if I just die like this, would you remember me forever?"
"Why did you rush in! Why did you have to rush in?"
Looking at her tear-streaked face, Winston reached out, gently wiping her tears with his fingertips, but they just kept flowing.
Winston weakly leaned against her shoulder, "You really are heartless."
And with that, Winston fainted.
Vera didn’t dare to move him easily, she could only keep calling his name over and over.
Fortunately, the hotel wasn’t far from the ski resort, which had an ambulance ready. Winston was soon taken to the hospital and rushed into surgery.
Vera was covered in blood, trembling with fear as she stared at the closed doors of the surgery room.
Zoe Monroe and Theodore Xavier rushed over after hearing the news. Seeing Vera in such a state, they were shocked. Miles was also wounded, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth.
Miles silently stayed by Vera’s side.
Zoe Monroe whispered, "Cousin, don’t you want to get your wounds treated?"
Zoe then turned to Vera, "Vera, how about going to clean up a bit?"
It seemed like Vera didn’t hear her, and Miles shook his head.
The sound of rapid footsteps echoed, and Cecilia Vaughn arrived in a hurry, her coat barely on, her hair uncombed.
Seeing Vera covered in blood, Cecilia stumbled slightly, and Theodore came forward to support her, "Cecilia, don’t be too worried..."
Cecilia suddenly pushed her away and rushed to Vera’s side.
"Smack!" A loud slap landed on Vera’s face.
