Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 191: A Dog Can’t Change Its Habit of Eating Shit
Vera Yves nodded, "Hmm, are you feeling better?"
"Much better." Miles Monroe’s eyes were gentle.
The assistant beside them whispered, "Counselor Monroe, if we don’t leave now, we’ll miss the flight."
Vera Yves stepped aside, "I’ll go first."
Seeing the elevator doors about to close in the distance, Vera Yves dashed over.
The air was left with a faint scent from her, as Miles Monroe breathed in the familiar yet distant aroma, he couldn’t help but long for the fulfilling feeling of holding her in his arms.
Trying once more, he ultimately still couldn’t hold on to her.
He was dazed for a while, then slowly turned around, just in time to see the elevator doors close, unable to even find her shadow.
Vera Yves watched the numbers increment on the display, actually wanting to tell him that his condition wasn’t suitable for discharge, much less for long-distance travel.
But having lost the standing long ago, they couldn’t even regain their starting point, and when meeting again, could only exchange unfamiliar greetings.
Vera Yves arrived at Mia Tate’s ward, where Hannah Hayes waited at the door, uncharacteristically nervous.
The mother and daughter walked into the ward together, fortunately, Mia Tate’s parents didn’t drive them away.
Mia Tate’s face was less swollen now, and seeing Hannah Hayes and Vera Yves, a look of dismay crossed her eyes.
"Sis, why hasn’t Mark Yves come to see me? Is he mad at me?"
"He’s been busy with work recently, once he’s free, he’ll visit you."
Though Hannah Hayes didn’t like Mia Tate initially, seeing her pitifully lying on the bed, she couldn’t help but say a few comforting words.
After some polite exchange, they moved outside the ward.
Mia Tate’s mother spoke coldly, "Don’t think that just because you showed concern for Mia, we won’t pursue this! Our Mia was harmed by Mark Yves, your Yves Family must compensate!"
Upon hearing Mia’s mother, Hannah Hayes felt a glimmer of hope, "It is indeed due to Mark’s fault; he owes Mia. Our Yves Family is certainly willing to compensate. I discussed with Mark’s father, a sum of five million, paid in full. Would that be acceptable?"
"Five million, and you think you can buy my daughter’s future?" Mr. Tate said angrily, "The doctor said she might never be able to stand again! How is she supposed to marry and have kids?"
Hannah Hayes felt helpless; if Mark were willing to marry Mia, she couldn’t oppose it now. But Mark refused.
She knew her son; if he were unwillingly to marry Mia, Mark might not treat her well.
Hannah Hayes didn’t respond; instead, she said, "Ten million! Our Yves Family will provide ten million, and will definitely find a way to fix her legs."
Vera Yves chimed in from the side, "I’ve seen Mia’s examination results; her legs still have a chance for recovery. If she needs, I’ll do my best to help."
Mr. Tate and Mrs. Tate had also watched that program, and Vera’s mature and steady performance surpassed her peers, giving an impression of reliability.
Mr. and Mrs. Tate exchanged glances, for the first time showing signs of hesitation.
Though they didn’t explicitly agree, their attitude became much milder.
Leaving the hospital, Hannah Hayes felt much better, with Harry Yves not returning home at night, the mother and daughter found a restaurant for dinner.
Vera Yves tried calling Mark Yves again, the phone still showed power off, acting unreachable at his age.
Hannah Hayes eyed Vera’s slightly thin cheeks, serving her several portions, "Eat more, why have you lost so much weight lately?"
Vera Yves felt she hadn’t noticed losing weight, but admittedly the clothes did feel looser on her.
Hannah Hayes glanced at the red marks on her collarbone, feeling anger surge, she served her more portions, "With that fragile body, can you handle being tormented by him every day?"
"Mom." Vera Yves sighed helplessly.
Upon seeing two figures not far away, Hannah Hayes’s face fell, "He seems indeed energetic."
Vera Yves, noticing her displeasure, looked back, seeing Winston Valentine seated opposite a young, pretty woman who smiled while looking at him, her eyes full of affection.
Winston Valentine sat with his back to their direction, hence his expression was obscured from view.
Vera Yves turned back, expressionlessly continuing her meal.
"He still fooled me about wanting to remarry you; that scene is obviously a blind date!" Hannah Hayes suppressed the urge to confront, "Old habits die hard for dogs."
Vera Yves appeared exasperated, "Mom, can you not say such things during a meal; it ruins my appetite."
"You still have an appetite? He’s already cheating!"
"What am I supposed to do? I can’t exactly go over there and start a fight with him." Vera Yves continued eating.
Hannah Hayes crossed her arms, "Go say hi and give him a scare!"
Even if Winston Valentine were indeed cheating, saying hi wouldn’t scare him.
Besides, she remained annoyed about him ripping her dress earlier that afternoon, not wanting to deal with him now.
Hannah Hayes watched Vera Yves with disappointment, witness her surprisingly good appetite, feeling even more irritated.
Finally, when Winston Valentine and the woman got up to leave, Hannah Hayes immediately dragged Vera Yves over nonchalantly.
The woman, in her high heels, seemed to twist her ankle, instinctively grabbing Winston Valentine’s arm.
Winston Valentine was about to push her away, then saw Hannah Hayes approach with a smile, "President Valentine, what a coincidence. Who’s this..."
Winston Valentine smoothly pushed the woman aside, his gaze falling on Vera Yves, not having eaten enough, forcibly dragged over by Hannah Hayes, her mood not cheerful, unwilling to even look at him.
"I’m Hannah Rowe, a childhood friend of Winston’s."
"A childhood sweetheart then." Hannah Hayes remarked with a false smile, "I thought you were on a blind date."
Hannah Rowe, embarrassed, smiled, "Just haven’t seen for a while; catching up a bit. I’ve been abroad; we haven’t met in years."
Hannah Rowe glanced at Vera Yves, "Winston, who are these two; haven’t you introduced me?"
Winston Valentine politely distanced himself, "The car should be here; I won’t see you off."
Hannah Rowe, noticing Winston Valentine’s attitude, smiled awkwardly "Then I’ll leave first; we’ll stay in contact."
Winston Valentine didn’t respond to her, Hannah Rowe wisely departed.
"President Valentine certainly has many childhood sweethearts." Hannah Hayes remarked, "Even after years, people remember you; your charm is impressive."
Winston Valentine felt a headache; his mother invited him for dinner that evening; he arrived only to find Hannah Rowe.
The Shelby and Rowe families were family friends, their elders acquainted. He couldn’t disrespect the Rowe Family, hence he had to sit through her half-hour chatter.
"I’m not close with her."
Hannah Hayes chuckled forcibly, "You’ll grow familiar after a few more meetings."
Winston Valentine looked at Vera Yves, "I won’t see her alone again."
Vera Yves still didn’t want to deal with him, hooking her arm through Hannah Hayes’s, "Mom, let’s go home."
Before the two took a few steps, Vera Yves was pulled over by Winston Valentine, "Mrs. Yves, I’ll have the driver take you home, I’ll bring Vera back later."
Hannah Hayes snorted coldly, "Have her home by ten o’clock."
Watching Hannah Hayes leave the restaurant, Winston Valentine walked Vera Yves to a table, ordering another meal.
Vera Yves still didn’t want to acknowledge him.
Seeing she was genuinely upset, Winston Valentine’s tone softened, "You getting jealous on my behalf makes me quite happy."
"I’m not jealous." Vera Yves looked at him displeased.
Winston Valentine clearly didn’t believe her, "Then what are you upset about? Upset that I tore your dress?"
"After I left you, I went to the pharmacy." The atmosphere seemed to quieten instantly.
