Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 197: Can’t Keep Her Mouth Shut Even While Eating
Cleo Sutton coughed a few times, "All these years, I never gave up looking for her. I may not be a competent mother, but I didn’t leave her on purpose; someone took her from me."
Cleo Sutton’s eyes showed the anguish of past memories, "Looking for her has become a habit for me. Actually, I don’t expect to reunite with her; I just hope to see her once and confirm she is living happily, and I’ll be satisfied."
Has anyone else been looking for her? Vera Yves felt a bit confused in her heart. Was she taken or abandoned? Was her birth met with someone’s expectations or rejection?
She shouldn’t suddenly feel affection for a completely unfamiliar woman.
But seeing Cleo Sutton’s fragile appearance, Vera Yves softly said, "If it were me, I would be willing to reunite with you. All these years, you’ve been loving her in your own way, and she certainly won’t let you lose hope."
Cleo Sutton’s eyes turned slightly red upon hearing this, and she held Vera Yves’ hand, "Dr. Yves, thank you."
After Vera Yves finished treating Cleo Sutton, she hesitated for a moment and told her that Melinda Shelby wanted to see her.
Vera Yves didn’t mention anything about Mark Yves; meeting Melinda Shelby was Cleo Sutton’s choice. As for Mark Yves, Winston Valentine had promised her that he would protect The Yves Family’s safety.
Cleo Sutton hesitantly looked at Vera Yves, "She didn’t trouble you, did she?"
Vera Yves shook her head, "No, she just asked me to pass on a message."
Cleo Sutton coughed several more times, "Then I might as well see her since I’m here. Could Dr. Yves please tell Tristan that I want to see Rae Rhodes?"
Vera Yves nodded, "Don’t worry, I’ll accompany you throughout."
After leaving Hillside Villa, Vera Yves made a call to Henry Sterling, informing him of the time and place.
Old Mrs. Valentine’s call came through, "Vera, this time grandma wants to eat the glutinous rice cake from Westgate Corner. Can you help grandma buy it?"
Vera Yves agreed.
Old Mrs. Valentine smiled sweetly, "I’ll only eat it if you personally deliver it; grandma’s mood turns bad when she sees that troublesome Winston, and she can’t eat."
Vera Yves knew that it would come sooner or later, so she bought the cake and personally delivered it to The Valentine Family’s old residence.
Old Mrs. Valentine was waiting in the living room for Vera Yves. When she saw her, she brought her to sit by her side, holding her hand and chatting about family matters.
After chatting for a while, Old Mrs. Valentine slowly began to speak, "Vera, it used to be Winston’s fault. The two of you being able to come together again makes grandma really happy."
"Grandma has checked; the sixth of next month is a good day. Why don’t you two go get the marriage certificate then?"
"Grandma, we haven’t planned on remarrying yet."
Old Mrs. Valentine frowned, "Is it that Winston doesn’t want to?"
"No, it’s just that our previous marriage was too rushed, and we didn’t really understand each other well afterward, so we ended up divorced. That’s why we’re being more cautious this time."
Old Mrs. Valentine snorted, "You don’t have to cover for him. If he’s not remarrying, what does he want? To cause trouble?"
Vera Yves looked a bit helpless, "I don’t want to."
Old Mrs. Valentine became even angrier upon hearing this, "It’s all because he was such a bastard before! Vera, grandma knows you’re still resentful towards him, so you should make him suffer and not agree to remarriage easily!"
Old Mrs. Valentine got more agitated the more she thought about it, almost wanting to call Winston Valentine immediately and scold him at the villa.
"Stay at the old residence for lunch today, grandma will personally cook and make your favorite sweet and sour ribs."
During lunch, seeing Vera Yves at the dining table, the Valentines’ expressions varied.
Samantha Warren, due to Cecilia Vaughn’s matters, became almost invisible in The Valentine Family.
Trevor Valentine didn’t treat her well all day long. Seeing Vera Yves sitting beside Old Mrs. Valentine made Samantha Warren furious.
Thinking that her Cecilia was sent abroad to fend for herself and perhaps wouldn’t return for many years, Samantha Warren wished she could turn her gaze into knives to cut Vera Yves to pieces.
Stella Valentine seeing Vera Yves felt like a nightmare suddenly became reality, feeling Vera Yves would marry back into The Valentine Family tomorrow.
Jean Taylor was smiling as she looked at Vera Yves, "Vera Yves, how much dowry did you bring when you married Winston Valentine?"
The Yves Family’s financial strength is far behind The Valentines’. When Vera Yves married into The Valentine Family, The Yves bought her a two-million-dollar car, a house worth tens of millions, and some jewelry.
But when The Yves encountered a crisis, she had already sold the house.
"It’s just that June needs to marry into The Warren Family, so I want to use it as a reference."
Jean Taylor seemed to be waiting for Vera Yves to make a fool of herself, assuming her dowry at the time was meager.
"Is there anything worth referencing in such matters?" Old Mrs. Valentine looked at Jean Taylor with displeasure; she really couldn’t just shut up even while eating.
Vera Yves looked calmly at Jean Taylor, "Isn’t the marriage yet to be decided? What’s the rush?"
Stella Valentine looked a bit uncomfortable.
"This marriage is decided by Winston, so it’s definitely set in stone." Jean Taylor sighed, "Isn’t it because the dowry was too little when you married into The Valentine Family, making you embarrassed to mention it?"
"I didn’t expect that after I divorced Winston Valentine, someone in The Valentine Family would still be concerned about my dowry." Vera Yves took a nearby napkin and wiped the corner of her mouth, "Why don’t you first ask how much bride price The Warren Family will give your daughter, so I can make a comparison."
Jean Taylor’s smile faltered; although The Warren Family has a decent status, compared to The Valentine Family, it’s no match at all. The bride price hasn’t been discussed, but it couldn’t compare to what The Valentine Family gave Vera Yves.
"It’s not discussed yet. Once the marriage is settled, the bride price from The Warren Family will only be more, not less."
"Then I’m really looking forward to it." Vera Yves politely looked at Old Mrs. Valentine, "Grandma, I’m full. I have things to do, so I’ll head out first."
Not waiting for Old Mrs. Valentine to speak, Samantha Warren glared at her in dissatisfaction, "Vera Yves, do you understand the rules? Who allowed you to leave before the elders have put down their tableware?"
Vera Yves stood up, calmly saying, "Rules are for The Valentines, not me."
Old Mrs. Valentine looked at Samantha Warren with displeasure again, seeing Vera Yves only ate one piece of sweet and sour ribs, and frowned, "Vera can leave if she wants, why all the fuss?"
Vera Yves walked out of the dining room, barely reaching the door when Stella Valentine chased after her, "Vera Yves, I need to speak with you."
"I’m not interested in your matters."
Stella Valentine gritted her teeth in anger but feigned vulnerability, "Vera Yves, I was wrong in the past, I shouldn’t have treated you that way. Since you’re with my third brother, for his sake, you should help me."
Vera Yves didn’t want to listen to her nonsense and walked out.
Stella Valentine refused to give up and followed her out, "You should know, my third brother has always been at odds with my second uncle. Recently, the internal conflict within the group is more intense, and my third brother wants to strengthen his power by having me marry into The Warren Family."
Vera Yves didn’t stop walking, and Stella Valentine gritted her teeth, "But my health has encountered issues, and if The Warren Family backs out, it’s bad for my third brother."
Vera Yves finally looked at her, "Come with me to the car."
The two got into the car, and Vera Yves checked Stella Valentine’s pulse. After over a minute, Vera Yves looked at Stella Valentine several times, and Stella Valentine felt guilty under her gaze.
