Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 209: Passerby
Vera Yves lifted her head and saw Miles, somewhat surprised.
Miles helped her to the outside of the dressing room, looking down at her foot, "Did you sprain your foot?"
Vera shook her head.
From the room came the angry voice of Jasper Hughes, "How dare you sleep with my wife! I’ll make sure you won’t get away with it today!"
Miles was about to push the door open, but Vera instinctively pulled him back, "Call the police, don’t get involved."
The group of people Jasper Hughes found looked like desperadoes.
Miles gave her a smile, "Vera, it makes me happy that you still care about me."
Vera retracted her hand, "We broke up, not became enemies."
"Don’t worry, nothing will happen." Miles glanced at her again, walked into the dressing room, and closed the door behind him.
The men glared at Noah Hayes, their hands holding weapons. Noah remained calm, with a mocking smile on his lips.
Seeing Miles, Jasper Hughes snapped, "This has nothing to do with you, get out!"
Miles handed over his business card, "I’m Miles, the attorney your father hired for you, handling your divorce case with Ms. Chelsea Valentine."
Jasper Hughes snorted, not taking the card, "She wants to divorce, I won’t let her!"
Miles slipped the card into Jasper’s breast pocket, "The other party will also hire a lawyer, and there are cameras everywhere. If you cause any harm now, it won’t do you any good."
Jasper’s expression softened a bit.
Vera waited outside for a while, hearing no sounds of fighting inside, and let out a sigh of relief. Just as she was about to leave, she saw Jasper leading a group of people out angrily.
Noah and Miles came out one after the other.
Noah’s gaze swept past their faces, letting out a seemingly meaningful laugh, then leisurely left.
"Where are you going? Need a ride?"
Vera shook her head, "I drove myself."
Miles nodded, and the two walked towards the elevator.
Inside the elevator, Vera’s phone rang — it was a video call from Winston Valentine, after a moment’s hesitation, Vera answered.
Winston, at the office, smiled seeing her in the elevator, "Finished filming?"
Vera replied with a simple "Yeah."
"What do you want for lunch?"
"I need to go to the clinic for filming in the afternoon; I’ll just grab something on the way."
Just then, Miles’ phone rang, he took it out and immediately silenced it.
"Who else is in the elevator?"
Vera paused, unsure how to explain, finally muttering, "A passerby."
Miles’ eyes flickered at her words.
"Walter Lowell ordered food to be delivered to the office. The TV station isn’t far from here, come over and eat before heading to the clinic."
Vera agreed and ended the video call.
The elevator doors opened just in time.
Vera exited first, and Miles followed behind her, eventually unable to hold back, "Vera, in your eyes, am I just a passerby now?"
Vera paused, "You know, we can’t go back to what we were."
Miles understood, he wanted to say something, but knew it would be pointless, only watching her figure disappear into the distance.
At The Valentine Group, Vera told Winston about Jasper Hughes’s attempt to assault Noah and suggested he warn Chelsea Valentine to be careful.
"That Jasper doesn’t have the audacity to come looking for trouble in my place." Winston was rather interested, "Did Noah get hurt badly?"
Vera shook her head, "No, he wasn’t beaten."
"Why?"
Hearing a hint of disappointment in his voice, Vera shook her head helplessly, honestly not knowing.
"I’ve arranged for our sister to take Toby to the hospital in a few days for treatment." Winston pulled Vera into a hug, "He’s been asking about you, can you come back to the villa for a few nights?"
Before Vera could respond, a commotion erupted outside the door.
"Winston Valentine! Don’t be so overbearing!" Trevor Valentine burst through the office door, Walter Lowell anxiously trailing behind him.
Vera retreated from Winston’s arms, Winston gestured for Walter to leave.
Walter wiped the sweat from his forehead, hurrying out and closing the door.
"Winston, don’t think I don’t know your schemes! Persuading Chelsea to divorce with such effort, just for her shares, isn’t it!"
Years ago, Trevor’s wife was favored by Old Mrs. Valentine and Old Mr. Valentine, so upon having two children, Old Mrs. Valentine gifted her five percent of the company’s shares.
Before passing away from illness, afraid her children would suffer future hardships, she split the shares between them.
Winston looked at him nonchalantly, "Otherwise? Why else would I help her?"
Vera glanced at Winston, slightly surprised.
"You!" Trevor didn’t expect him to admit so bluntly, hesitated for a moment, "What do you want?"
"What do you think I want?" Winston stood up, "Uncle, if you’re unhappy with your position as vice president, you can choose to transfer your shares to me, and retire with the money."
"What’s the use of holding so many shares? Valentine Group is still under your father’s control!"
"So, if he’s not in a hurry, why are you?" Winston looked at Trevor, speaking unhurriedly, "Or did you always think these were your things?"
Trevor’s face turned blue and then pale, "Winston, don’t forget you’re just a cripple now! If your father had even a shred of fatherly affection, do you think he’d treat your mother so heartlessly? Without Henry Sterling as the scapegoat, it’d be your mom locked up now!"
Winston let out a cold laugh, "Uncle, you’re strong and fit, why not try sweet-talking my father; maybe he’ll get a rush of brotherly sentiment and hand the company over to you."
"Don’t think I don’t know what went down with Warren!"
"If not for my brotherly consideration for him, he’d rot in prison." Winston’s voice turned colder, "I’m far more merciful than my father."
Trevor gritted his teeth and angrily stormed out.
It was only when Winston touched Vera’s cheek that she snapped back to reality, "Did you help our sister just for her shares?"
"That’s certainly part of it."
Vera looked at his face, inexplicably recalling Jane Shea’s words to her.
Thinking of him after marriage, realizing he’s always been such a person, indifferent and unfeeling.
After having lunch together, Vera received a call from Linda Young, heading to the clinic, where Nathan Norton was already there, getting styled.
Vera and Linda discussed the filming details, the clinic had been rearranged based on old photos.
Nathan stood in the yard after styling, and Vera suddenly felt like Old Mr. Yves appeared before her, her eyes misting over.
The shooting wrapped up past 9 PM.
As they packed up and headed out, Vera was the last to leave, locking the clinic door. As she turned, a figure unexpectedly knelt before her with a "thud."
