Too Late to Love Her: When She Divorced, He Fell Apart-Chapter 123: Let’s Go
Tristan Lockwood, to her, was already another unrelated man.
Dylan Skinner said, "I do feel reluctant to let go, but I hope you can be happy."
"I’m very happy now."
She curved her lips into a smile.
Dylan Skinner carefully observed her expression; in those round, smiling eyes, it seemed there really wasn’t any sadness left from before.
He let out a sigh of relief, but in his heart, a certain decision gradually formed—a desire to protect her, reaching its peak at this moment.
No man would willingly relinquish the woman he truly likes.
And Dylan Skinner is no exception.
Once a young man falls in love, he is full of energy.
Dylan Skinner would frequent Claire Hale’s office every few days to wait for her to finish work, taking her to all the fun places around Riverbend.
Claire initially considered herself to be a rather dull person.
Aside from work, she had no particular interests or hobbies.
After spending a few days hanging out with Dylan Skinner, she became much more cheerful, and her previously aloof demeanor gained an unexpectedly lively aura.
The relationship between her and Dylan Skinner also grew more familiar and intimate than before.
In late spring and early summer, Dylan Skinner took Claire to watch a world-class gaming competition.
It was Claire’s first time being at a live e-sports event.
The atmosphere of cheering and shouting was way more enthusiastic than that of any pop concert.
Claire couldn’t quite understand the game, but being present, listening to the commentary and the audience’s gut-wrenching screams, it was quite exciting.
When the Chinese team won the championship, Dylan Skinner was particularly thrilled, excitedly hugging her in celebration.
Claire was delighted too, patting Dylan Skinner’s back, joining him in his joy.
Her chin gently rested on his broad shoulder, sensing a youthful vigor that was unique to the young.
Claire’s breathing became slower and deeper.
In that instant, as her warm, faintly scented breath hit Dylan Skinner’s ear, he tightened his embrace, holding her close.
"I really like you, Claire."
To the extent that he’d give his life for her.
"Dylan, what did you just say?"
Claire heard Dylan Skinner’s whisper by her ear, but the ambient noise drowned him out.
Dylan Skinner released her, gazing intently at her for a long time.
Claire’s eyes shimmered.
The cheers, applause, cries of excitement, and shouts loud enough to raise the roof suddenly seemed to quiet in that moment.
Dylan Skinner’s gaze gradually lowered, settling on her slightly moving lips.
He leaned down.
Claire was slightly taken aback but didn’t dodge.
Dylan Skinner bent down, holding her hand as his lips landed gently on her cheek, cold and tender.
Claire slightly tilted her head, tightening her grip on Dylan Skinner’s hand, and as she looked up, she saw Tristan Lockwood.
He stood at the entrance to the work aisle, holding the trophy meant for the winning team, and when the host on stage called for the award ceremony, Tristan Lockwood’s deep gaze receded from her as he ascended the stage.
Today he wore a black suit, his height, long legs, broad shoulders, and narrow waist showcased perfectly.
Even during such an exhilarating moment as awarding the team, his expression remained aloof.
Yet his deep black eyes kept focusing on a particular spot among the audience.
Even the girls around Claire were discussing, "That handsome guy in the suit seems to be watching us!"
"Now, immediately, I need to know all about him!" One girl enthusiastically exclaimed, "He’s really handsome, like he stepped out of a novel!"
"The handsome guy is giving out awards; he must be quite rich. Let’s just enjoy the view." Another said.
Dylan Skinner also heard those words; his expression slightly altered, he lowered his gaze and said:
"Shall we leave?"
Claire turned her gaze away from the stage and said, "You’re not going to watch the end?"
"It’s already over." Dylan Skinner smiled, holding her hand and not letting go, "Besides, I’ve gained something today that makes me happier than seeing my favorite team win the championship."
"Alright, let’s go."
She turned, leaving side by side with Dylan Skinner.
And she didn’t notice Tristan Lockwood’s gaze fixed on her as he stepped down from the stage.
A few days after watching the competition, Claire, having completed her errands outside, returned to the office and saw Tina Hayes playing the same game.
She walked behind her and tapped her on the shoulder when Tina Hayes’ screen turned black and white.
Tina Hayes jumped in shock, almost dropping her phone, hurriedly putting it away when she saw her, saying, "President Hale, I’m really not slacking off, I’m just tired and relaxing."
Claire glanced at her and said, "What are you afraid of? I’m not going to eat you."
Tina Hayes was still shaken, "You appeared so suddenly, like my old homeroom teacher used to catch me reading novels in class."
Just imagining this gave Tina Hayes a chill down her spine.
Claire simply looked at her phone screen and asked, "Can this game be played together with another person?"
"Of course, and you can play with up to five people." Tina Hayes looked at her in surprise, "An elite like you actually doesn’t know anything about video games?"
Claire raised an eyebrow, "Is that a problem?"
Tina Hayes quickly shook her head, "Of course not."
Claire had Tina Hayes help her download the game, asking about the process with serious curiosity. After teaching, Tina Hayes sighed, "Why do I feel like I’m teaching grandparents how to use a phone?"
"Really?"
Claire gave her a long, lingering look.
Tina Hayes quickly smiled brightly and asked, "Do you want me to rank you up?"
"No need."
After Claire had Tina Hayes leave, she checked her friends list and saw Dylan Skinner was in-game.
She sent him a message asking if he wanted to play together.
Dylan Skinner almost immediately ended his game and pulled her into the team.
Claire was somewhat surprised, "You just started ten minutes ago, finishing so quickly?"
She remembered last time watching the game, the shortest was at least twenty minutes.
Dylan Skinner touched his nose, his clear voice sounded in the party chat, "Someone intentionally fed kills, ended early."
Claire didn’t have any doubts.
Curiously, Dylan Skinner asked, "Claire, why are you suddenly interested in gaming?"
Claire replied, "I wanted to try what you like."
During this time, he had been accommodating her preferences. People reciprocate naturally, and she could also cater to him.
There’s no limit to matching, and her actions show the mutual affection.
Dylan Skinner’s lips curled up, his smile almost uncontrollable.
He played the game with her, walking together along the duo lane, carefully explaining positions, details, skills—all with great patience. His voice was gentle and calm, even losing the game wouldn’t make him angry at all.
Tina Hayes once overheard Claire and Dylan Skinner’s team voice chat, witnessing Claire being utterly defeated, yet Dylan Skinner was still incredibly patient, unable to resist saying, "President Hale, you should marry this guy. He’s great at gaming, patient; even if you mess up the game, he’ll carry you without getting upset—that’s genuinely one in ten thousand."
