Too Late to Love Her: When She Divorced, He Fell Apart-Chapter 158: Just Want an Excuse to See You
But Tristan Lockwood and Claire, they don’t have kids, right? So why is Claire going for a paternity test now?
Could it be that Elder Lockwood has been wearing a green hat all along?
With this thought, Clarence Finch looked at Claire, his expression inevitably complex.
He’s not sure whether to feel sorry for Claire having to raise a child on her own, or for Tristan Lockwood having brought back an outdated green hat.
Claire was unaware of Clarence Finch’s swirling thoughts, she bid him farewell and went to visit The Lockwood Matriarch in the hospital room. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
The Lockwood Matriarch was in good spirits, even though she was undergoing treatment, she remained cheerful.
Claire knew without mentioning it that she was aware of the leukemia situation but didn’t bring it up.
As she was about to leave, The Lockwood Matriarch asked, "Claire, how are your talks with the Sawyer kid going?"
"It’s alright."
Claire answered honestly.
Although the two of them just chat online at the moment, it’s not quite liking.
But Claire’s impression of Stanley Sawyer is quite good.
The Lockwood Matriarch was happy to hear this, "The Sawyer kid is rather introverted, not very talkative. I was worried you wouldn’t like him."
Introverted?
Not talkative?
From the few days she’s chatted with Stanley Sawyer, he didn’t seem at all like someone who doesn’t talk much.
However, Claire thought better of it, realizing that young people behave differently in front of elders than with friends, and didn’t overthink it.
On Clarence Finch’s end, the test results came out quickly; he got the report in two days.
Looking at the paternity report indicating a ninety-nine percent relation, his hands trembled holding the paper.
As Tristan Lockwood passed by, he happened to notice Clarence’s trembling hand and conflicted face.
His gaze fell on the report in Clarence’s hand.
Tristan frowned and asked, "Yours?"
Clarence instinctively replied, "It’s yours."
"?"
Seeing Tristan’s bewildered expression, Clarence felt immense sympathy and said, "Old Lockwood, I need to tell you something, but when you hear it, don’t get too worked up."
"Hmm?"
"This report, Miss Hale asked me to help with it."
Tristan looked at him inexplicably, "So what?"
Clarence was exasperated by Tristan’s lack of understanding despite the obvious hint! He thought Tristan was usually quite smart, yet today seemed dim-witted.
"This child! It’s Miss Hale’s! She’s looking for the father!"
Clarence hopped anxiously and blurted out.
Tristan was momentarily stunned, then remembered that while chatting with Claire under the guise of Stanley Sawyer recently, she mentioned she was working on a case about child support for an out-of-wedlock child.
This report likely pertains to that child’s father.
However, he didn’t bother explaining to Clarence, but deliberately donned a cold expression and nonchalantly said, "Is that so."
Seeing Tristan’s change of expression, Clarence assumed he couldn’t accept it and consoled, "You don’t have to be too upset, after all, you and Miss Hale are divorced now. That green hat won’t stay on you for long."
Tristan didn’t say anything but directly took the report from Clarence’s hand.
"I’ll ask her myself."
He said leisurely.
Claire went to Lockwood Group today to confront Shawn Sykes again.
As luck would have it, she arrived at the entrance just as Shawn Sykes was laughing and chatting at the door with a group of well-dressed people.
Shawn Sykes, this wolf in sheep’s clothing, showcases a certain elegance when discussing business, capable of deceiving people.
Claire walked over directly.
"Mr. Sykes."
She curved her lips, smiling without warmth, and called out to Shawn Sykes.
Shawn Sykes’s expression subtly changed upon seeing Claire, but mindful of the big picture, he maintained his polite smile, excused himself from the others, and went aside to ask with a less amiable face, "What do you want from me this time? Haven’t I told you, Crystal Warren is lying to you, the child is not mine."
Claire continued smiling, "If you’re unwilling to settle, where should the court summons be sent, to your office or to your wife?"
Shawn Sykes’s face, which still carried a hint of a smile, instantly darkened, "Are you threatening me?"
"How could this be a threat? I’m discussing options with you, Mr. Sykes."
Claire spoke calmly.
"Please make a choice quickly. Since you feel wronged, it doesn’t matter who it’s sent to, you’ll be able to clear your name in the end."
Having said this, Shawn Sykes dropped the facade and asked through gritted teeth, "So that woman is determined to ruin me?"
"Miss Warren just seeks rightful child support."
Claire’s smile vanished, and she spoke coldly.
"As long as you choose to settle, pay the amount Miss Warren requested, things will settle down, without affecting your marriage or career."
"Ha, treating me like a child with such tactics?" Shawn Sykes sneered at her, "If I settle, wouldn’t that be admitting the brat is mine? I’m telling you, Shawn Sykes will only ever have one precious son!"
Listening, as Shawn Sykes spat out the word "brat," Claire’s expression grew colder.
In her casework, she’s always prioritized the client’s wishes, rarely harboring the desire to utterly destroy someone.
"If Warren wants a lawsuit, I’m fully prepared for it, be ready for a fight!"
Shawn Sykes said before turning away and leaving.
Claire hadn’t planned to argue much with him today,
Reaching this point in conversation, there’s no need to hold back further actions.
Just as she turned to head to the underground garage, she saw Tristan Lockwood standing by the flowerbed, watching her with a calm expression.
He wore a white turtleneck sweater and casual attire, a simple outfit, yet in the bright sunlight, he looked gentle overall, perhaps due to the white clothing.
Just standing there attracted the gaze of many passersby.
Some were employees of Lockwood Group who had seen Tristan before.
As they walked by, they politely greeted him.
Tristan Lockwood walked directly towards her.
Claire’s eyes lingered on him for just a second before she shifted her gaze and walked toward the elevator.
"Clarence asked me to bring this to you."
Tristan’s long legs quickly blocked her path, handing over the paternity report.
"I was thinking of calling you first, but I figured you wouldn’t pick up, so I checked your law office and found you came to Lockwood Group."
Claire took the report indifferently, glanced at the results, and without looking up, said, "In the future, you can leave such things at the office, no need to seek me out."
"Is it wrong to find a reason just to see you?"
