Too Late to Love Her: When She Divorced, He Fell Apart-Chapter 160: A Little Boy
Crystal Warren was wearing a tight dress, the skirt was so short that a slight lift of the waist would reveal a glimpse.
Many people in the audience whistled.
Under the dim lights, upon closer inspection, Crystal’s expression was not comfortable, and some of her movements were quite inexperienced, obviously a beginner.
But she had a pretty face, and this youthful demeanor added a certain charm.
"Sister-in-law, you like watching pole dancing too?"
Nathan Quinn had just finished greeting guests and turned around to see Claire staring intently.
She gave him a sidelong glance, "Nathan, are those ears beside your head just for decoration? How many times have I told you not to call me that."
"Oh, my bad, my bad, can’t I just be wrong? Ever since I met you and Tristan, you two have been together; calling you sister-in-law feels less strange to me."
Claire didn’t want to continue with this topic and instead asked, "How’s the income from dancing at your bar?"
Nathan paused for a moment, "You want to work part-time?"
Claire shot him a sharp look.
Nathan quickly mentioned a number and added, "As for additional income, it depends on one’s own skills."
His words were vague, implying that selling drinks and accompanying guests could lead to further income.
Sure enough, after Crystal finished her dance, she quickly brought a large tray of drinks over to a group of men having a great time nearby.
As soon as she put down the tray, a man reached out and pinched her waist.
Crystal bit her lip, her body trembling, yet she dared not resist.
If she earned a little more, she could gather her baby’s medical fees sooner. Suffering a little was nothing.
That’s how she comforted herself.
"Little Wang, go bring two glasses of whiskey to that table of guests."
A leisurely but pleasant male voice suddenly sounded.
Crystal paused, immediately dodged from the man’s grip, and looked towards where Nathan was pointing.
Claire was watching her.
Crystal looked embarrassed, but still brought the drinks over to Claire’s table, wanting to leave quickly.
"Miss Warren, sit down and let’s chat."
Claire stopped her and transferred some money to her.
"This is a tip."
Reluctant but having accepted the money, Crystal sat down and spoke first before Claire, "Lawyer Hale, there’s no need to persuade me. I really don’t want to make this matter known to everyone. This child was something I insisted on giving birth to on my own. Shawn Sykes can call the child a bastard, and I don’t want money from such a person."
"Since he’s that kind of person, Miss Warren, we have no reason to back down. Those with nothing to lose have no fear of those who do, making a ruckus about this will only negatively impact him more."
"But..."
There was a hint of emotion in Crystal’s eyes.
She still shook her head, not agreeing.
Claire was silent for a moment, then said, "Is it because you don’t want others to use the fact that your child is illegitimate against you?"
Crystal said with a bitter smile, "If they attack me, I don’t care. But my child is still so small, I don’t want her to grow up under strange looks from others. I’ve seen through Shawn Sykes now; he’s a high-level executive at the Lockwood Group and could make life hard for us two with just a finger movement. I don’t have the confidence to fight against him. Besides, there are so many ways to make money, as long as you let go of your pride, you can always earn some, right?"
Looking at Crystal, whose eyes were filled with undisguised love and determination, Claire unconsciously clenched her fist.
She had never seen that kind of unconditional love for a child on the face of that other woman.
The only expression she got from that woman was disdain.
"Your daughter with a mother like you will surely be very happy and proud."
Claire lowered her eyes and said softly.
Crystal paused, then said with a bitter yet relieved expression, "I just hope she won’t resent me for not giving her a complete family."
No, she won’t.
Claire thought to herself.
A child who can feel her mother’s full love will certainly love her mother very deeply.
"Since you really do not want to, I won’t force you either."
Claire handed the other glass of whiskey to Crystal.
"But if one day, you change your mind, feel free to come and find me."
Crystal nodded.
Claire had come specifically tonight because she learned Crystal would be working here.
Now that their conversation had come this far, Claire didn’t linger much longer, she picked up her bag and was ready to find a driver to leave.
As she looked up, she saw two familiar figures walking into the bar side by side.
Claire frowned slightly.
Why would Jenson Jennings and Jade Sutton appear here together?
She glanced at Nathan, who was wandering around, and it was clear that Tristan Lockwood wasn’t present at The Midnight Breeze tonight.
Were these two here on their own?
Claire sat in the booth, bent down to avoid Jenson and Jade’s line of sight.
Then she watched as they went into a private room upstairs. Claire got up to the backstage of the bar and saw Crystal carrying two drinks.
"Miss Warren, may I ask you for a favor?"
Claire walked over and said.
Two minutes later, she changed into the bar staff uniform, tied up her hair, disguised herself, and went up to the second floor.
As she pushed open the door to the private room, Claire heard Jenson’s gentle voice, "Miss Sutton, you said before that you and Claire were always good friends when you were young, right?"
"Mm."
Jade Sutton’s voice was soft and harmless.
Jenson: "So you also knew about how Claire was bullied when she was young?"
"Claire was always emotionally distant, not very likable. Kids liked to form cliques, and over time, she became isolated."
Jade paused, then said with a bitter smile:
"Back then, my family and the Hale Family often interacted. I thought she just didn’t know how to express herself, so I would always help her stand against Cynthia Hale. I didn’t expect after all these years, she’d turn her back on me."
Jenson’s expression turned somewhat profound.
His gaze swept over the waitress who just came in, squatting down and placing the drinks on the table.
When his eyes caught the well-defined jawline half exposed of the person, Jenson slightly raised a brow without showing any emotion and said, "Pour the drinks for us."
The waitress complied.
Jenson continued looking at Jade and asked, "You just said your family and the Hale Family had a good relationship, so you attended Cynthia Hale’s eighth birthday party as well."
His tone carried an assertive quality.
A flicker of discomfort flashed in Jade’s eyes, and she gave a low "Mm."
"Then you should also know about a little boy who helped Claire that day? Given how close you were with Claire, you have no reason not to know that boy."
As Jenson finished speaking, his gaze nonchalantly settled on the waitress who had finished pouring the drinks.
The person kept her head down, softly said to enjoy, and then turned to leave.
Jenson withdrew his gaze and looked at Jade again. The latter was momentarily stunned by his words but quickly smiled and said, "I really hadn’t heard of that. Perhaps you should ask Cynthia Hale, since she bullied Claire, she surely knows best."
