Chapter 74: Chapter 74: As Long as Sister Likes It

After watching the movie with Dylan Skinner, the two of them walked out of the mall together.

Out of the corner of her eye, Claire Hale noticed the park where she had previously followed Tristan Lockwood and Jade Sutton, right nearby.

It was evening, and Riverbend’s winter rarely had such good weather as today. The sunset painted the sky a crimson blush, breathtakingly beautiful.

Claire Hale said, "Let’s take a walk in the park."

There were quite a few people strolling in the park—elderly folks, children, young people, most of them in pairs.

Walking beside Claire, Dylan Skinner noticed her silence and remained quiet as well.

Kids from poor families always have more delicate thoughts. Dylan naturally realized that Claire actually saw him as a substitute.

She gave him money and treated him well, simply trying to find the warmth from him that the person in her heart couldn’t give her.

Dylan was almost certain that the person in Claire’s heart was undoubtedly her husband, who didn’t love her.

Though she constantly denied it, always stubborn, how could she repeatedly bring it up if she truly didn’t love him?

It was nothing but unwillingness.

Dylan sighed inwardly, feeling an unwilling pain in his own heart too.

He cared for her and was smitten by her, yet he needed her material help to live well in this world.

What could he use to protect her?

Thinking of this, Dylan couldn’t help but feel sad.

He asked, "Sister, are you letting me into Jennings Tech to help you investigate someone?"

"Mm."

At this moment, with not many people around, Claire spoke without much caution.

"Keep an eye on Jared Jennings for me, what he does every day, where he goes, if anything seems off, let me know."

"Jared Jennings? Isn’t he the one in charge of The Jennings Group now?" Dylan was shocked, "Can I really get close to someone so important?"

"That depends on your ability."

Claire looked into his eyes and said each word clearly.

"I can only arrange for you to get in, the rest of the path you have to walk on your own. If you feel you can’t do it, tell me now, and you don’t have to go. But once inside, there’s absolutely no option for giving up halfway."

Without much thought, Dylan immediately grabbed her hand.

"Sister, I can do it."

Perhaps the sincerity in his eyes was too moving, Claire was momentarily stunned and didn’t pull her hand away.

Allowing Dylan to hold it.

Just then, Tristan Lockwood’s figure suddenly entered her line of sight.

He stood by the shrubs not far away, the evening glow cast on his face. It was clearly a warm color but exuded a chilling coldness.

Beside him was Jade Sutton holding his arm.

Claire’s gaze casually swept over the two, then she withdrew it and said to Dylan, "Let’s go."

Her hand was still held by Dylan, with no intention of pulling free.

Tristan’s gaze remained on their joined hands.

At that moment, Jade walked up to Claire, her face full of goodwill, and said, "Claire, it’s rare to meet like this, how about we have dinner together?"

Claire silently assessed her for a few seconds.

After a moment, she slowly spoke, "Sure."

Jade’s face instantly lit up with a smile, affectionately wrapping her arm around Claire’s, and asked, "Since our reunion, this is our first meal together, right? What do you want to eat?"

"Up to you."

Claire said.

Jade then looked at Tristan, asking, "Tristan, how about you?"

Tristan cast a cold glance at Claire and said to Jade, "It’s up to you."

Jade finally named a restaurant, the same mall where Claire and Dylan had just come out from.

But after she finished, Claire looked at Dylan, "Do you like it, Dylan?"

Tristan’s gaze turned towards her.

Claire just looked steadily at Dylan.

Dylan was momentarily stunned, then quickly smiled, "As long as you like it, sister."

Claire also gently smiled, "Okay."

The place Jade chose was a very authentic Western restaurant. Its decor was luxurious, with a serene and elegant tone.

The four sat together, not entirely familiar, making the atmosphere slightly awkward.

Among them, Dylan was the most bewildered.

He knew Claire and Tristan, but before, Claire had clearly told him that Tristan was pursuing her—pursuing her quite persistently—and now, why did Tristan have another woman with him?

Tristan had previously performed surgery on his mother, meticulous and professional, giving Dylan a good impression of him. He even thought of helping them once Claire divorced.

Dylan felt conflicted.

He hesitated a moment, then suddenly asked, "Dr. Lockwood, is this lady your...?"

He looked at Jade.

At the same time, Claire also looked at Tristan.

But in her eyes, there was a bit of anticipation for a good show.

Noticing her gaze, Tristan’s eyes darkened for a moment, then casually said, "She’s Lawyer Hale’s friend."

Jade’s expression stiffened slightly but quickly smiled faintly, nodding to Dylan, saying, "You’re also Claire’s friend, aren’t you? I see you’re quite close, even holding hands in the park just now."

Dylan’s eyebrows furrowed, almost imperceptibly.

He didn’t know if it was his imagination, but he felt something strange about Jade’s words.

Yet before he could respond, Jade continued, "Seeing that you can be so close to Claire makes me happy. Claire has a cold disposition and didn’t have many friends before. I used to worry that with her personality, she’d always be lonely. It’s great that she has someone to accompany her now."

Saying that, she glanced at Tristan, "Do you agree, Tristan?"

Tristan’s expression remained indifferent, revealing nothing of his thoughts.

Claire picked up on the odd undertone in Jade’s words and was about to retort when Dylan spoke up, "Are you really Claire’s friend?"

He stared directly at Jade, his eyes suddenly cold.

Jade was momentarily stunned, then pulled a smile, "You can ask Claire if you want. When she was bullied for being an illegitimate child, who stood up for her?"

"I don’t need to ask Claire. Just from what you said, I can tell you don’t truly see her as a friend."

After Dylan finished speaking, Claire unexpectedly turned her head to look at him.

The warm, gentle smile usually on his face was gone. In its place was a sharp, serious expression.

"Claire isn’t cold by nature, many people, including me, really like her. She just doesn’t openly show she cares, but in reality, she deeply cares for those around her. Unlike you, who claims to be her friend, but subtly belittles her with a sense of superiority!"

Dylan countered Jade word by word.

After he finished, he also looked at Tristan and said, "Dr. Lockwood, do you think I’m right?"

At this moment, Claire and Jade both looked at Tristan simultaneously.
