Top Gamer Reincarnated as an Archmage-Chapter 48: Rules on Rules
"Why are you holding me—" He whispered back to Jyrana; however, she covered his mouth and shook her head, not wanting to interrupt the class.
"The fourth rule: don’t make pain your enemy."
’What?’ Klaus was flabbergasted after hearing that; sure, there was a point to it, but no one liked being in pain, no one.
"There will be times when you get hit first; you will feel it sting." He kept circling; many students were already dozing off as time seemed to pass so slowly like they were in an abandoned desert with nothing to do whatsoever.
"You will be burned, even cut or shocked; however, you mustn’t freeze." He raised his fist like he was a soldier leading his men into battle, "if you freeze, you die! If you die, what will your families say? What will your teammates say?"
’Families...probably nothing,’ Klaus remembered being basically kicked out, so he didn’t really have an answer to that.
"If you want to scream, then let it out, but never take your eyes off your opponent."
’This went from a magic defence class into a military tips and tricks class,’ Klaus sighed as he looked at some of the students already sleeping, not being bothered anymore.
"You must move and counter at all costs!"
’Not really; sometimes, countering isn’t a good option,’ Back when Klaus became the highest-ranked mage, he faced countless swordmasters and even other mages.
When injured, repositioning came first; creating a good countermeasure would come second after figuring out if the injury was lethal or not.
"And the fourth rule, which ALL of you must remember!" He emphasised the word all, waking up multiple of the sleepy students, including Klaus whose eyes were nearly already closed shut.
"You don’t have infinite mana, and neither do your opponents!"
’Uh,’ Klaus found it weird actually; he had never run out of mana so far and never found it hard to really recover, so maybe he was an exception to this, but he didn’t bother saying anything.
’What, I would become a damned science experiment.’
"Every spell uses mana, every shield uses mana, EVERYTHING you can use to your advantage uses mana!" The way he kept emphasising the words kind of freaked Klaus, considering all of this info was coming from a person who looked like a little kid their age.
"If you and your opponent have similar strength," he clenched his fists again. At this point, this class was starting to become corny as hell, "then the fight is about who runs out of mana first. Once their movements become sloppy, remember!"
He lifted his fists again, "sloppy people die!"
’Can it get any worse—’
"And the FINAL rule! Engrave this into your skull at all costs!" Everyone was awake and staring at this point due to his continuous shouting, which didn’t even allow a single ounce of rest.
"No one has unbreakable defence!"
’I mean,’ Klaus wanted to speak up, but at this point, he just wanted the class to be over.
’If someone is stronger than you, then their defence might seem unbreakable...and I don’t know what kind of spells exist, but who knows, there might be an unbreakable one.’ Back in the game, some people were known for their durability, and Klaus wasn’t one of these people.
He hated people that spammed defensive spells, yet it seemed effective in some cases.
"If you ever stand still thinking, ’oh, but my shield will hold,’ NO, it won’t." He kept screaming and shouting, emphasising the most random words for no reason.
’There are multiple factors to this, I guess...like how strong is your opponent, how strong are your spells, mana, and so on...’ Bastian was leaving out many factors that Klaus was already considering.
"Defense buys you time, where you must counter!"
’Alright, now it’s just getting on my nerves...what’s with him and countering?’ The way Bastian kept blabbering on and on about it was already pissing off some of the students, but no one said anything.
"Any questions?" With that, Bastian crossed his arms and stared at the students who were all just seated on the ground, praying for the lecture to end.
"And with that...our class is finished!" As soon as he said that, some students nearly started celebrating, including Klaus, who was being held by Jyrana so that he wouldn’t fall asleep.
’Thank fuck,’ Klaus stood up quickly, brushing off Jyrana’s hands, and his whole body felt numb, nearly falling over from his limbs not wanting to work all of a sudden.
’Holy, that felt like an eternity,’ He stretched them, and they cracked one by one like he was an old man.
He took the timetable out of his pocket and saw that he didn’t have any more classes for the day, so he decided to rest, or he thought he would.
As nearly all of the students had left except for him and Jyrana, Bastian stood in front of him with a creepy-ass smile.
"Students Klaus and..." He looked at Jyrana towering above him with a smile, "student Jyrana, mind if we talk?" Then he pointed towards the forest.
’No chance,’ If Klaus had learnt anything from horror movies, it was to never follow anyone into a creepy forest; the time and place didn’t matter at this point since anything could happen to the two of them against Bastian if things turned bad.
"We can talk here," As soon as Klaus said that, Bastian’s expression crumbled for a second, then it returned to normal; he seemed visibly upset for one quick second, then acted as if nothing happened.
"What I wanted to say is," He took out a piece of paper from his pocket and handed it to Klaus.
"You probably aren’t learning many useful pieces of information from these classes..."
’Right, I’m not.’ Klaus wanted to say those words, but he resisted the urge to do so; he just opened the paper which had the headmaster’s signature on it.
"Say, why don’t you think about taking senior classes? The headmaster already signed it and agreed."
