Training-Addicted Mage In A Progression Fantasy-Chapter 71: Valley of Souls (1)
Chapter 71: Valley of Souls (1)
“Illuminate.”
As Leon spoke the incantation, Magic Power visibly flowed from his body as dazzling light began to gather around him.Threads of light danced through the air, converging toward his forehead.
A warm sensation soon seeped into Leon’s forehead, accompanied by intense pressure. As a burning sensation spread across his skin, a yellow eye-shaped pattern etched itself into the center of his forehead. The pain was significantly less intense compared to his first use of the Brilliance of Creation. It seemed the discomfort would gradually lessen the more he used this magic.
In that moment, Leon’s field of vision expanded explosively. It was as if all the Magic Power flows in this world suddenly unveiled themselves before his eyes.
Dark and gloomy streams of Magic Power, black whirlpools, blue light streams, red waves...Countless colors and forms of Magic Power overwhelmed his senses.
Beyond that, hazy visions of one second into the future began materializing.
Countless scenes flashed through his consciousness.Leon’s mind reeled from the flood of information pouring in.He hadn’t fully acclimated to it yet.
Leon forcefully organized the scattered information in his mind and launched into action.
He began scanning the surrounding area for Beasts.
His current position was in the shallowest area within the Defense Magic Circle. The Beasts that appeared here were Black Spiders. These waist-high spiders possessed venomous fangs in their powerful jaws. They were Beasts that even Apprentice 1st or 2nd Grade Mages could handle effectively.
Leon spotted a Black Spider and gracefully landed before it.
Kiit-
The spider lunged at Leon the moment it noticed him.Or rather, the vision of its lunge appeared in his mind first, followed by the spider’s actual movement.
Leon, having maximized his physical abilities through the Mana Infusion Technique, effortlessly avoided the spider’s attack.

The spider charged several more times but couldn’t reach Leon, who anticipated its every move.
Soon, he observed black Magic Power streams gathering at the protrusion on the spider’s tail.Through these dark flows, he quickly understood what magic it was preparing. In his mind, he witnessed a preview of black threads being shot toward him.
So this is how magic works.
The flow of Magic Power revealed not only what magic the enemy was preparing but also predicted the following attack.
This is truly remarkable magic.
As when examining the Curse of the Black Night, he realized the SSS grade wasn’t awarded lightly. With just slight improvement in his Realm, he might even be able to directly manipulate the Magic Power flows before him.
This ability resembled Magic Power interference, typically only possible with Advanced Insight, yet achievable even at the Mystic Grade.
However, such tremendous power came with its price. While maintaining the Brilliance of Creation, Leon’s Magic Power drained rapidly. As time passed, cold sweat trickled down his back. The effects weren’t limited to Magic Power depletion.
His vision began to blur as sharp ringing filled his ears.
Suddenly, pain like lightning coursed through his skull.
Fighting the sensation of his brain melting, Leon hastily canceled the magic.
“Huff... Hah...”
Leon grabbed his knees, breathing heavily. His entire body was drenched in sweat, his hands trembling uncontrollably.
Leon immediately entered the Magic Orb and assumed a cross-legged position.
The current duration I can maintain is about 10 minutes?
Leon contemplated while assessing his limits.Naturally, this duration would increase as he grew more familiar with it and as his Realm improved.
Once his breathing steadied and his body and mind calmed, Leon emerged from the Magic Orb.
He continued his training, alternating between the Brilliance of Creation and the Curse of the Black Night against the Black Spiders.
These magics differed fundamentally from General magics.Unlike Arcane Magic or Grand Magic, they lacked standardized frameworks, their power varying solely based on the user’s Realm.
Though nearly five months had passed since arriving at the Valley of Souls, Leon’s Realm progression remained slow. This was natural, given his attempt to master multiple magics simultaneously. This very challenge drove him to combine different magical techniques.
As Leon continued training throughout the day at the Valley’s entrance, he began noticing something unusual.
This area typically hosted only low-grade Beasts like Black Spiders.Yet somehow, powerful Beasts - wolves with black manes and harpies with human faces and raptor bodies - had begun appearing. These creatures possessed power levels matching Apprentice 5th Grade to Early Arcane and shouldn’t have been present here.
Come to think of it, Leisia had warned me about this...
While subduing them wasn’t particularly challenging for Leon, their behavior raised concerns. He sensed something peculiar in their movements.
The Beasts moved with unexpected coordination, as if preparing for some impending danger.
Leon found these movements eerily familiar. They reminded him of the Monster behavior in the Beast Forest west of Asteria. There, the Beasts had acted chaotically due to their ruler being displaced by the Witch.
What could be causing this...?
Such suspicious activity needed reporting.
Making his decision, he turned to exit the Defense Magic Circle.
“...”
Leon briefly placed his hand on the Defense Magic Circle, examining it carefully. The translucent barrier trembled slightly. It vibrated unstably, as if someone were constantly testing its strength.
Something’s definitely wrong.
With a grim expression, Leon immediately headed for Leisia’s quarters.
However, upon arrival, Leisia was nowhere to be found. His knocks went unanswered.
Leon turned toward Neo, who waited outside his room.Neo stood motionless, almost trance-like, holding a piece of paper.
Leon took the paper and unfolded it.
If you find this paper, come to Area C.
The handwriting belonged to Leisia.
Leon took flight immediately.
Area C was another section of the Valley of Souls under different management.Upon arrival, Leon realized a serious situation had already unfolded.
Hundreds of harpies darkened the sky, relentlessly assaulting the defensive barrier.Inside, the Valley’s guardian Mages fought desperately, but their defense appeared increasingly unstable.
Some Mages, depleted of Magic Power, sat cross-legged outside the barrier, recovering their strength.
Leon spotted Leisia fighting within the defensive barrier and flew to her aid.
He raised his hand toward the five harpies she faced.
Crack-
Lightning split the sky, striking down the five harpies who fell to the ground with simultaneous screams.
“What’s happening?”“You’ve arrived.”
Leisia noticed Leon and sighed with relief.Yet her expression remained grave.
“I’m not sure why... but suddenly these beasts started swarming in.”“Has it been reported?”“Yes, several have already left to do so.”“Shouldn’t we retreat then?”
Leon asked, scanning the area with concern, but Leisia furrowed her brow troubledly.
“Well... retreating now would mean losing everything - the Defense Magic Circle, our quarters, all of it. Some have already left to report, so we need to protect this place until reinforcements arrive. The beasts are only targeting Area C for now.”
Leon struggled to understand Leisia’s reasoning.Even if this phenomenon was isolated to Area C, hundreds of Early Arcane-level harpies far exceeded their current defensive capabilities.
“But... isn’t that risking our lives?”“If the beasts overflow this area, Imperial council investigators will come. Being found negligent in our management could cost us authority over the Valley of Souls.”
Their situation appeared more complex than it seemed.
Just then, someone interrupted Leisia and Leon’s conversation.A man with disheveled hair, the highest-ranked Mage present at Advanced Arcane level, approached them.Leon quickly realized he held temporary command here.
He addressed Leon urgently.
“Could you bring your Golems from Area E?”“...”
He apparently knew about Leon’s Golems.
Leon nodded in agreement.Following the commander’s decisions seemed appropriate.
I could probably handle these harpies alone...
Leon returned to his assigned area, collected all but 30 Scorpion Golems left for reconnaissance, and headed back to Area C.
However, the situation had deteriorated further.
More harpies had gathered, battering the defensive barrier mercilessly. The barrier appeared dangerously close to shattering.
Leon took a deep breath and retrieved a large-capacity Spatial Pocket. As nearly 500 Golems prepared to emerge from the pocket.
Boom-
The ground shook violently.
Simultaneously, a Mage flew in from afar, approaching the disheveled-haired Mage while gasping for breath.
“It’s terrible! Beasts are swarming into Areas A and B as well!”
