Transmigrated as Cannon Fodder — I Rise to Female Lead Through Hard Work-Chapter 117: House Viewing
"You think jobs are like cabbages, scattered all over the place." Weng Hefeng had never seen anyone as clueless as her second sister-in-law. "Now that our younger brother has gone first, we are now a family with workers in the county. If any opportunities come up, we’ll definitely get the first news."
"Besides, do you think our son-in-law is some kind of high-ranking official who can get you three job openings all at once? One at a time, okay? If the son-in-law hears what you said, it might ruin things for our men." Weng Hefeng looked directly at Pan Kexia and said.
Liu Huilan appreciated her eldest daughter-in-law’s generosity and didn’t expect her to have such insight in important matters. "The eldest daughter-in-law is right, besides, this job was well thought out by Nannan and the others."
"You haven’t married yet. With this job, it’ll be easier to find a wife. Keep your eyes open and quickly bring me a daughter-in-law." Liu Huilan said her thoughts while looking at Yi Weiliang.
Meanwhile, Yi Roujing and Ding Ancheng had already arrived at the commune. Yi Roujing once again witnessed Ding Ancheng’s connections as they rode a jeep to the county.
If Ding Anmin and the others were here, they would immediately recognize that the jeep driver was the same person who picked them up at Ning’an County to go to the hospital last time.
"Mr. Ding." The man showed great respect to Ding Ancheng.
"Jing, this is Xu Jinchun, Brother Xu; Brother Xu, this is my wife Yi Roujing." Ding Ancheng introduced them.
Xu Jinchun was a bit surprised and glanced at Yi Roujing. Although he knew Ding Ancheng was married, he hadn’t given them a wedding banquet, thinking it was unimportant. Seeing them today, he understood everything.
"Mr. Ding, you flatter me. Just call me Old Xu like Third Master does, and you, too, Mr. Yi." Xu Jinchun rarely showed a hint of a smile on his usually serious face.
"Brother Xu, since you’re older than me, I’ll address you this way." Yi Roujing said with a smile. "Just call me by my name."
Xu Jinchun glanced at Ding Ancheng, seeing no objections or displeasure, and agreed with a smile.
"When is your Third Master returning to Beijing?" After getting in the car, Ding Ancheng asked Xu Jinchun.
"He should be returning at the end of the month." Xu Jinchun replied, "Mr. Ding, Third Master has been wanting to invite you for a meal for a long time, and he will come to Huaixi County in a few days. Since he couldn’t hope to invite you, he’s waiting for you to treat him this time."
Ding Ancheng laughed upon hearing this and nodded. "Sure, have him give me a specific time, and Jing and I will host you properly."
A gleam of joy appeared in Xu Jinchun’s eyes. "Third Master will be delighted to hear that."
It seemed Mr. Ding cared a lot about his wife. In the past, no matter how much Third Master invited, Mr. Ding paid it no mind.
Third Master? Although Yi Roujing had never met him, she knew who he was: Zhou Zeyuan, the only male in the younger generation of the direct line of the Beijing Zhou family, ranking third in the entire Zhou family. He is the official husband of the second female lead, Yuan Xiangyu, in the book and a good friend of the male lead, Ding Ancheng.
Yi Roujing didn’t expect that even before Ding Ancheng went to Beijing and recognized his ancestors, he was already in such good relations with Zhou Zeyuan.
Yi Roujing sneakily glanced at Ding Ancheng sitting beside her. This man really had some skills. Even without the Xu family, he would be able to soar high.
Ding Ancheng turned his head and met Yi Roujing’s gaze, reached out and held Yi Roujing’s left hand placed at her side, playing with it in his hand. Yi Roujing looked away, trying to pull her hand back but couldn’t. She had to pretend to be calm; otherwise, it would draw more attention. However, inside she thought this guy was really bold. In this era, people usually avoided public affection. The only consolation was that the jeep didn’t have rearview mirrors.
"Old Xu, thank you, come with Zeyuan next time." Getting off the car, Ding Ancheng smiled and invited again.
"Sure, Mr. Ding, Comrade Roujing, I’ll take my leave now."
Ding Ancheng took Yi Roujing straight to County First Middle School to get the key from Wang Bingzhi’s house. The neighborhood office was closed on the weekend, but Zhao Hanjuan had borrowed the key for them.
"Come over for dinner after you finish looking at the house." Zhao Hanjuan warmly invited, and Wang Bingzhi echoed, and Ding Ancheng did not refuse.
The three houses were relatively scattered, so Wang Bingzhi lent his bicycle to Ding Ancheng, and Ding Ancheng rode with Yi Roujing to see each one.
"All three houses have yards and are roughly the same size, and they’ve all been repaired. We just need to buy some furniture and add some necessary living supplies, then we can move in directly. Later, you can choose the one you like the most."
"The prices are also similar, and the locations are all okay. I’ve had people check these three families too, no problems there." Ding Ancheng was thorough, having taken care of any potential issues in advance.
Yi Roujing was quite pleased, her right arm around Ding Ancheng’s waist, her shoulder slowly leaning in, resting her head on Ding Ancheng’s back. "You’ve checked everything, you might as well make the decision."
"Of course, you have to check it yourself first." Ding Ancheng felt the warmth on his back, and the curve of his mouth widened.
At the first house, Yi Roujing instantly liked it. It was similar in structure to the house they had visited before at Hao Zhijian’s place, three main rooms in the primary house, two on each side. The yard had two flower beds; one side had withered flowers and plants, while the other side had grapevines, partially trellised, with small green bunches of grapes hanging. In the corner of the yard near the door, there was a well, and Yi Roujing peeked to find the water quality very clear.
The two rooms on the left, one smaller one served as the kitchen, the larger one as a dining area. On the right, one room was for housing, and the other delighted Yi Roujing — a bathroom with simple equipment, but its cleanliness was commendable, with a counter made from bricks on the side for washing and laundry.
The three rooms in the main house were all bedrooms. As Yi Roujing looked out the window of one of the rooms, she noticed the house not only had a front yard but also a smaller backyard. One side of it had a shed, likely for storing firewood according to the residual traces.
"This place is great." Yi Roujing was satisfied. "Do the other two places have bathrooms?"
"They all do." Having seen Yi Roujing’s preference for private bathrooms during their visit to the provincial city, Ding Ancheng couldn’t overlook that detail.
"How come there are so many nice houses for sale?" Yi Roujing found it a bit strange.
"One family is moving to settle in the provincial city, and the other two houses were reclaimed by the government." Ding Ancheng didn’t elaborate, as it wasn’t a pleasant topic.
"Oh." Yi Roujing didn’t ask further, knowing it was handled by the neighborhood office and with Ding Ancheng’s thorough investigation, there should be no issues. "Let’s check out the other two places too."
The lot size was about the same as the first, and the structures were similar. The main difference was the decoration in the yards. The second house had stone tables and benches, a small fish pond, and the well was in the backyard. The third one was spacious and clean, with just a well and nothing else.
