Transmigrated as Cannon Fodder — I Rise to Female Lead Through Hard Work-Chapter 141: Luck
"Even though my sister-in-law is just a temporary worker in the finance department, she has also contributed to our food factory. Jiang Xuemei, due to her marriage, only started work today. She went to the finance department to collect last month’s salary and receipts. Because the numbers were incorrect, she indiscriminately gave my sister-in-law a slap. Is this the unique style of trade union employees?"
Jiang Xuemei’s face turned white, "Dad, I didn’t..."
"I know Comrade Jiang Xuemei is Chairman Jiang’s daughter, but I believe Chairman Jiang is a fair and just person and will handle this matter impartially." Yi Roujing praised.
"This incident concerns the finance department and the trade union. I hope Director Ni and Chairman Jiang can thoroughly investigate this matter. Everyone is here to serve the factory, and we should work together. Resorting to violence over such an issue, I believe Comrade Jiang Xuemei is not such a person. I hope we can get a reasonable explanation and justice for my sister-in-law." Yi Roujing said firmly.
"I understand this matter and will ensure justice for her." Chairman Jiang agreed with a frown.
"Thank you, Chairman Jiang." Yi Roujing knew when to advance and retreat, "Actually, my sister-in-law is a straightforward and responsible person."
"Today I stumbled upon this incident and found out. She took the blame upon herself, saying the finance department was at fault first. Salaries and receipts affect a family, and everyone takes them seriously. Comrade Jiang Xuemei has just established her own new family."
"So as long as my sister-in-law’s grievance is handled reasonably today, we’ll let it go." Yi Roujing said seriously, "Sorry to have delayed everyone’s meal time. We’ll take our leave."
Yi Roujing pulled the dazed Ding Anmin, holding a lunchbox, out of the office.
"Still in shock?" Yi Roujing looked at Ding Anmin with amusement.
"Scared me to death, I thought you’d give them a slap back." Ding Anmin said shyly.
"I’m not stupid. It’s fine to talk, but if I really did it, we wouldn’t have the upper hand." Yi Roujing touched Ding Anmin’s hair with a smile.
"But there’s really nothing to justify for me in this matter. At most, Jiang Xuemei gives me a sincere apology, and I’ll forgive her." Ding Anmin whispered.
"This thing is a bit strange." Before meeting Jiang Xuemei, Yi Roujing thought she was just a spoiled young lady throwing a tantrum when unhappy. But after meeting her, Yi Roujing felt she wasn’t such an ignorant person.
"Strange in what way?"
"Jiang Xuemei doesn’t seem like someone who would hit others for no reason." Yi Roujing explained, "She hit you without even listening to your explanation; it feels like the purpose was to hit you."
"Wasn’t it because the salary and receipts were messed up, she has a reason..."
"That’s hardly a reason." Yi Roujing chuckled, "Jiang Xuemei’s attire doesn’t look like someone short on money, would she hit someone over a correctable salary and receipt issue?"
"And, Jiang Xuemei is not a new hire, nor has there been any salary adjustment, so why was this month’s salary slip wrong? Could it be that Peng, that woman you mentioned, did it on purpose?" Yi Roujing speculated.
Ding Anmin furrowed her brows, unable to find words, "Peng has usually been quite considerate towards me, and she has no reason to..."
"You’ve only known them for so long. Don’t be so quick to trust someone, and don’t be foolishly open about everything. Don’t keep dwelling on this; Jiang Xuemei will respond to us soon."
"Mm, you’ve vented for me; I’m not angry anymore." Ding Anmin grinned.
"Don’t smile, it looks ugly." Yi Roujing remarked slightly disdainfully, "Let’s head home; I’ll boil an egg and roll it over your face."
Ding Anmin’s eyes were slightly sore, but she didn’t retort, skipping up and down as she followed, her lips curling as she softly said, "It’s a bit wasteful, though, the egg can’t be eaten after rolling it over the face."
"Oh, sister-in-law, have you prepared well for the exam on the 12th?" Ding Anmin reminded.
"Don’t worry, I’m smart. Haven’t I mentioned that I’ve already self-taught myself well?" Yi Roujing nonchalantly responded.
Ding Anmin previously would never believe such a thing, but now she found herself believing it without reason.
The mark on Ding Anmin’s face faded considerably after rolling with the egg, but upon close inspection, it was still noticeable. Xia Xingchen, being observant, noticed it when returning home from work in the evening.
However, Xia Xingchen didn’t ask directly because Ding Anmin didn’t show any emotional change. It wasn’t until they were in their room preparing to sleep that Ding Anmin brought it up first.
"Xingchen, I feel really lucky." Ding Anmin lay on the bed in pajamas, unable to hide the smile on her face. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"What happened?" Xia Xingchen asked with a smile.
Ding Anmin didn’t hold back and told everything.
"Even though I got slapped and felt wronged at first, everything is fine now. You should have seen how cool my sister-in-law was when she stormed into the trade union office to stand up for me. Her arguments were so logical that the other party was left speechless. I always knew she could talk well, but I never expected her to speak so well."
Ding Anmin pulled up the quilt to wrap herself inside and rolled around, while Xia Xingchen watched, amused.
"Mm, I also feel really lucky." Xia Xingchen sweetly smiled, "Even though I went to the countryside, meeting you and sister-in-law, I’ve never had such good friends."
"Now that I’m healthy and somewhat back in the city, once I return to Jing City to claim what’s rightfully mine, I will have no regrets."
"What about Gu?" Ding Anmin asked seriously, "Have you thought it over seriously? I heard that he’s about to return soon."
"We’re meeting this Saturday." Xia Xingchen replied, her face slightly flushed.
"Is there something I don’t know?" Ding Anmin teased with a cunning smile, then tickled Xia Xingchen.
"He brings me things almost every other day." Xia Xingchen’s ears turned red, "Now everyone in the distillery knows him and thinks he’s my boyfriend."
"Did you refute it?" Ding Anmin asked with a smile.
Xia Xingchen’s eyes darted around, her neck turning red too. Ding Anmin understood then, feeling relieved. With Gu Shizhao around, even if Xia Xingchen returned to Jing City, she wouldn’t suffer any grievances.
As for Ding Anmin’s grievance, Jiang Xuemei provided a sincere apology the very next day.
Jiang Xuemei and Peng’s daughter were good friends. They attended the same primary school, junior high, and high school. Due to her father’s influence, after graduating high school, Jiang Xuemei joined the food factory as a clerk in the trade union.
Peng’s daughter went to the textile factory as a temporary worker. Peng not only had a daughter but also a son, who she wanted to take over her position. However, with the food factory hiring temporary workers in the finance department, Peng started having ideas.
