Transmigrated As The Final Villain of a Death Game-Chapter 216: The Gala [ 3 ]
Merilyn wore a fancy dress, and she was surrounded by two men. Both men appeared like casual, mindless brutes who had nothing but muscles going for them.
But once again...
"That woman down there is a demon. The two beside her are like the Telekinesis guy though. Their souls are suspiciously pure."
"I see..."
At this point in time, Merilyn was still only a Grade 22 succubus.
But unlike most grading systems, succubi were special.
After all, they don’t actually focus on power. If anything, to grow more powerful, they needed to age, since like all demons, the older you are, the purer your demonic energy is.
By that logic... if she never trained for several thousand years, she’d reach Grade 22 easily.
And since time works differently in the Demon Realm, it was a real possibility.
Yet the most important thing about a succubus’s powers was their charm. I wasn’t affected because of my mental resistance ability, but everyone else, including the people around me, would get charmed.
So by that logic, whenever a fight breaks out, she’s the first person I need to kill. Otherwise, she’ll turn the entire gala against us or the emperor.
"Look at the pair of honkers on that one, eh?"
Alicia leaned in and glanced down.
"Oh? Never mind. They’re fake. I was wondering who kept buying up all my breast enlargement potions. Instructor Merilyn... you naughty hyena. Huehehehe."
"Isabelle or Melina... could you shut her up, please?" I pleaded.
The two of them nodded at me with exhausted expressions and dragged the flailing and cussing Alicia away.
With that, silence once again descended as I continued staring at everyone coming and going downstairs. There were way too many commoners, and because of that, before the gala could even officially start, one ruckus after another broke out.
And seeing how the majority of those people were drinking the alcohol Alicia spiked, I was kind of afraid an orgy might break out in the middle of the gala.
...Though to be fair, it’d be funny to see.
Heh.
"You have that weird grin on your face again," Clementine said.
Then she began massaging my face, and all the while, the minutes ticked down quickly as thousands more people filled the ballroom.
And in the end, once I heard distant yet loud footsteps coming from the imperial entrance of the palace, I knew the emperor and his family were about to emerge.
Of course, that also meant it included Isabelle, who had gone downstairs around five minutes ago.
Finally, the gala was about to start.
I leaned over and stared at the imperial entrance.
Just then, a man wearing a familiar monocle stepped inside the palace. He wore a long black coat, and despite there being so many people inside, he stood out like a sore thumb.
And not even a second after he walked inside, he glanced up, meeting my eyes directly and smiling at me.
A feeling of dread suddenly ran down my spine. He hadn’t even used a bit of his energy, but his sheer presence alone was enough to intimidate me.
William...
I didn’t expect him, of all people, to be here.
But since he’s here, our odds of preventing the emperor’s death have decreased drastically.
During the Project, I had speculated he was around the headmaster’s Grade. However, now that I was staring at him, I couldn’t feel the extent of his energy. Not to mention, if the difference was so drastic that he could intimidate me without using any energy, then that could only mean one thing...
He was on the level of a Demon King.
A mid-Grade 75, or maybe even Grade 80.
I was strong, but if I had to fight a Demon King in my current state, I wouldn’t even last a second.
"..."
"H-His soul is really dark," Clementine said.
"Yeah. He’s the same guy who experimented on me."
She suddenly froze.
However, Kevin, who stood beside me, also heard what I said.
"Experimented?"
I turned to him and smiled.
"I was tortured for a little bit. That’s why I became so strong so quickly." 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
I didn’t feel the need to hide that from him, since what would be the difference?
Would he be jealous that I was tortured to become powerful?
Obviously not.
"I’m sorry. I didn’t know."
"No need to be so apologetic. You’re not the one who tortured me," I replied with a chuckle.
He just stood there uncomfortably. In the meantime, William finally looked away from me and continued ahead, trying his best to mix in with the crowd.
And just a few minutes later, the steps that had been echoing from the imperial entrance grew even louder, until finally, the giant doors slowly opened, revealing ten people.
In the very front was the old emperor. He wore his fancy crown and crimson attire. All the while, he limped forward with his cane. Behind him were his two beautiful wives, and behind his wives were his children.
Princes and the lone princess, Isabelle.
She looked very uncomfortable being there. If anything, she walked a step or two behind the rest of her ’siblings.’
Though I guess that makes sense, since she never really liked any of them. After all, most of these royal or imperial families had squabbles for succession. Even though she didn’t want to be the empress, she was still included in that squabble.
It’s stupid.
Despite that, the emperor eventually arrived in front of his throne, and once his two wives sat beside him, the entire palace fell silent.
"He’s got a funny beard..." Clementine murmured.
I pinched her thigh, causing her to yelp slightly as she pouted and finally shut up.
After a brief moment of silence, the emperor coughed twice and then slammed his cane into the ground.
"I’m happy so many of you managed to make it to the gala today," he said, his smile widening slightly.
"But I suppose the question still stands... Why have I called all of you here today?"
