Transmigrated as The Forgotten Extra-Chapter 131 What Cannot Be Seen.
The moment Cain spoke those words, his vision wavered. A deafening rumble erupted, loud enough to shake his eardrums.
Yet his gaze remained fixed on the cliff before him as it flinched.
The rock face split apart, forming a perfect square that sank inward, blasting black dust into the air and swallowing his field of view. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
Slowly, the massive slab of stone slid aside, revealing a short corridor with an iron door at its far end.
Cain narrowed his eyes as the black dust slammed into his body. He waved his arm, brushing away the particles lingering on his face.
A few seconds later, as the haze dissipated, Cain let out a long breath. His hand tightened around Luna’s.
"T-This...?"
Luna murmured softly, her tone low, mixed with curiosity and disbelief.
Standing beside Cain, the four others lined up evenly. Behind their visors, their gazes were steady. It was no longer a secret among them that Cain was still hiding most of his abilities.
Including this, his capability to access ancient technology.
At this point, deep down, they had likely given up on questioning it. Not only was the timing never right, but Cain always turned evasive whenever the topic of his power came up.
Cain swallowed hard, trying to wet his dry throat. Cold sweat trickled down his forehead as four sharp pairs of eyes pierced him from the side.
The pressure felt suffocating, as if the air itself were tightening around his neck.
"Let’s go inside."
For now, the only thing he could do was ignore their curiosity and move forward, toward whatever lay beyond the stone cliff.
He lifted his foot and walked toward the massive door. Looking closely, the place was large enough for a vehicle to pass through and stay.
Once he crossed the threshold, Cain’s footsteps echoed sharply. The interior was lined entirely with metal, gleaming under neon lights embedded in the ceiling, stretching all the way to the iron door ahead.
The grey-haired boy scanned his surroundings, then turned to Peter.
"This place is spacious. Peter, can you bring our vehicle inside?"
Peter raised an eyebrow, then nodded lightly.
"Alright."
Cain shifted his gaze to the next person.
"Abel, go with him. The distance isn’t far, but better safe than sorry. Rika, stay here and provide support if you notice anything."
"Roger! Let’s go, Peter!"
Abel raised his arm cheerfully, his loud voice reverberating through the chamber as he ran out with Peter.
Meanwhile, Rika let out an exasperated sigh. The red-haired girl moved closer to the entrance, crouching into a firing position.
"I’m ready."
Hearing her curt response, Cain could only give a wry smile. He glanced aside and met the gaze of Louise, who was scratching the side of her visor.
"E-Ehehe, then I’ll stay on standby near Rika."
Cain nodded and replied sincerely.
"Thank you, Rika. Louise."
Without turning to him, Rika waved her hand in acknowledgement. Louise, on the other hand, turned and gave a small bow. Their sincerity tugged a string in Cain’s heart, causing his face to crack into a smile.
Seeing how reliable his teammates were made the strength suddenly drain from Cain’s body. He clenched his teeth, enduring the aching pain creeping through his legs as they turned soft, almost like jelly.
But as he was about to endure the agony, a helping hand stood firm next to him.
"It’s okay, Cain?! You can lean on me!"
From beside him came a high-pitched voice, followed by gentle arms wrapping around his back, becoming a pillar of support for his weakened body.
Contrary to what he had expected, the backlash effects were still lingering.
Cain regulated his breathing, slowly in, slowly out, trying to calm his heart, which showed no sign of slowing down.
He could feel his fingertips trembling. His face twisted in pain every time he clenched his fist.
[Backlash effect from Limit Break is still active. Your strength is reduced by 50%. Recovery time depends on the user’s condition. Can be accelerated through deep sleep.]
[Skill Cooldown: 11:42:07]
As the blue panel appeared before his eyes, it informed him of his condition. Cain let out a short breath, unsure how he was supposed to react.
With a blink, the notification vanished, leaving behind a chilling silence that pierced his bones. Yet was strangely warmed by the presence of the girl beside him.
’Huff, looks like I’ll have to endure this helplessness for a few hours.’
Cain gazed at the backs of his teammates near the entrance. A faint smile curved his lips as he closed his eyes, savouring the calm of the moment.
...
Perhaps because of his exhaustion from overusing Ether stacked atop the Limit Break backlash, Cain unknowingly loosened his guard.
He failed to sense the presence watching from far above the clouds.
A tattered brown cloak fluttered violently in the fierce wind. No matter how strong the gusts were, the hood refused to slip off, as if an unseen force anchored it in place.
"Intrigued..."
The little monster muttered, crossing its arms.
Several hours had passed since it decided to follow the humans it recognized, going so far as to ignore the mission given by the Venerable Mother.
Despite his burning curiosity, the little monster’s top priority remained unchanged: reclaim the attributes stolen from him and offer them to the Venerable Mother.
Only then would his debt be repaid, and perhaps he would receive a worthy reward, such as a glimpse of the evolution its creator often spoke of.
After all, as far as he knew, the little monster had gained consciousness already in his current form. He wanted to experience what evolution truly was.
His attention shifted to a strange object moving atop a flat black land, heading straight toward the hidden door behind the rocks.
The little monster lowered his arms, body leaning forward, ready to dive and ambush the humans.
But he halted his plan when he saw the grey-haired boy approaching the door, holding someone’s hand.
"That guy?!"
Not once, but twice now, the little monster had seen that grey-haired boy moving freely within the contaminated environment.
Just as the Venerable Mother had once said:
{Those foolish humans are lowly beings who cannot survive even an hour in the outside world without their black suits, unlike us, the chosen ones...}
At first, he assumed the boy bore crimson lines. The mark of infection by the deadly virus that sustained his kind.
But instead of being infected, the boy looked perfectly healthy. There were no red markings at all.
That alone made the little monster wary.
He still didn’t know how strong the enemy truly was. Judging from their past and recent battles, the humans should have been weaker than him.
Yet his instincts screamed not to confront them directly.
Thus, it chose a different approach.
Rather than attack head-on, it would exhaust them first before moving in.
The little monster glanced toward the hill, slowly sealing shut. He then shifted his gaze to the deep ravine away from his place, where the presence of his kin lingered.
His mechanical lips curled upward.
"I can use them."
His floating body moved, flying straight toward the ravine’s edge. From beneath the hood’s shadow, a pair of glowing red eyes burned.
Those eyes pierced through centuries-old darkness, revealing countless beasts wandering aimlessly.
The little monster clicked its tongue, dissatisfied. With his current strength, taming second-stage beasts would be extremely difficult.
He might control a few, but that wouldn’t be enough to exhaust the humans.
To achieve that, he needed control over all the beasts in the ravine.
"I have no choice."
Reaching into its cloak, the little monster pulled out a blood-red orb, glowing menacingly in his hand.
The object was a gift from the Venerable Mother. An artifact that allowed effortless control over beasts, regardless of their stage.
However, it wasn’t all-powerful.
The orb could only be used three times before crumbling into dust. One use had already been spent when he created a third-stage artificial beast that time.
This was the second.
With newfound power in hand, the small monster leapt. His body fell like a crimson comet into the ravine below.
When its feet struck the ground, a massive shockwave erupted, forming a small crater with cracks radiating outward.
That impact drew the attention of every beast in the ravine.
The little monster raised the orb. It pulsed once, then released a crimson blaze that devoured the darkness entirely.
Seeing this, his rigid lips stretched wide, revealing jagged, dagger-like teeth capable of crushing even steel.
"Obey me!"
The crimson light spread far and wide, reaching every corner of the ravine, all the way to the edge connected to the open sea.
Moments later, the light faded. And the beasts, once unorganized steel, now began to move as one.
The silence was shattered as creaks echoed everywhere.
The little monster watched as the cores within the beasts’ chests ignited, transforming the dark ravine floor into a ruthless crimson sea, thick with killing intent.
Hundreds. No, thousands of second-stage beasts began advancing under his command.
The little monster tucked the orb back into his cloak and gazed up at the black clouds drifting overhead.
"This time, I will succeed in taking back what belongs to me."
As usual, his words were stiff and clumsily phrased, but the malicious intent was palpable.
And unknowingly, the evil targeting Cain had entered a new stage. His fated battle would soon unfold.
