Chapter 103: Chapter 103:Practical Preparation [4]

Waking up Friday morning, my entire body ached, particularly my chest, where countless plastic bullets had hit me from yesterday’s training session with Daisy.

Since I had refused to use my right eye, wanting to save it for the Practical exam today, I hadn’t been able to dodge as many bullets.

There was a clear difference in my abilities when I didn’t use my right eye versus when I did.

Instead of the usual ricochet activity, Daisy and I sparred; however, throughout the entire three-hour session, I didn’t land a single hit.

I hadn’t even gotten within a foot’s distance of her, as I would just be bombarded by bullets and pushed backward.

However, I didn’t complain because I could see clear results.

My tempo lines, not just with bullets but everything in general, were getting clearer and less shaky as my perception and Tempo stat increased heavily.

Swordmanship-wise, I hadn’t done much training since the class on Tuesday, but on Wednesday, I had visited the training hall during my free time after class.

There, I had seen Evangel, whom I already knew would be there, and surprisingly, Liam, who seemed to have gained some sort of inferiority complex upon losing to Evangel on Tuesday.

When I had walked in, the two of them had been silently training on opposite sides of the training hall against wooden dummies for who knows how long.

Wearing her usual emotionless expression, Evangel gracefully swung at the dummy in calm strikes, like the waves crashing against a beach’s shore.

Alternatively, Liam’s strikes had been full of aggression and anger, like a volcano erupting with lava.

Besides those two regulars, Scarlett and some other background characters popped in, hanging around for an hour before departing.

The other important students, like Zeke and Charlotte, were probably off training their elemental attacks at a different training hall.

More importantly, though, with all the physical training I had been doing, my strength, speed, and stamina had been increasing, finally pushing me past the edge of D-.

Rolling out of my bed, I stared at the light-blue holographic screen that stood in front of my desk.

At this point in the book, Evangel should be at a mid-D+ rank, but considering the improved training facilities of the Imperial class, I wouldn’t be surprised if she rose to a peak D+ rank.

If so, that meant she was ready for her breakthrough.

Advancing letter ranks wasn’t as easy as simply increasing your stats across a certain threshold.

As I approached the D+ rank, my stat increase would slow until it finally halted at a stat cap for D ranks when I reached the peak of D+, like Evangel.

To increase myself to C- and destroy the maxes placed on my stats, I would have to ...look inside my body.

Or, in other words, cultivate.

Inside every enlightened, a small sphere-shaped blue ball floated next to the heart, containing the human’s mana and elemental particles.

Like the heart, which pumps blood throughout the body, this mana core spreads both mana and elemental particles across your figure.

Inside this mana core, there is a structure, which can range from a small house to a city the size of Paris, depending on the person.

For example, Evangel’s mana core contains..Mount Olympus, the location above the clouds, where the Greek Gods live in myths.

To rank up, you have to send your consciousness into this mana core and complete a certain quest or sequence of tasks that are assigned by the core.

When you enter your mana core, your body is left completely defenseless and soulless, so Glaive offers capsules for students to rank up safely.

It is possible to leave your mana core mid-quest, but it has to be done at a checkpoint, which is also created by the mana core.

Although it is currently unknown to all humans, this process of breaking through can actually be done together, by equally letter-ranked individuals.

For example, I could enter Evangel’s mana core and help her, and upon the completion of her mission, only she would advance to C- while I would stay D.

This process is extremely dangerous, though, as someone can enter your mana core and destroy it, preventing you from ever using mana or elemental particles again.

Looking past my stats and my two new gifted abilities, I smiled before entering the shower.

It felt as if all the work I had been putting in had finally come to fruition.

The rest of the Imperial class students, besides the royals, would be around mid-D rank, so I wasn’t completely unprepared for the upcoming Practical exam.

Shifting through my closet, I put on a full black tracksuit instead of the regular academy uniform, alongside a red windbreaker I had purchased from a shop in the plaza.

Besides occasional hallway talks with Mira and Scarlett, who usually ignored me when she was with Charlotte, I had little to no social interactions.

I hadn’t seen Raven around as he was probably training at the Worldly training halls, and with no Mira around, I hadn’t initiated any interactions with Evangel.

I felt...oddly empty.

Yawning and stepping out of my room, I groaned and muttered as the savory smell of bacon entered my nose.

"Maybe I should get my cloak back today..."

As I descended down the stairs, two small groups were sitting on couches while eating, Liam on one side and Charlotte on the other.

The boy-girl barrier seemed to have collapsed though as some boys were with Charlotte whiles other girls were sitting next to Liam.
