Chapter 119: Chapter 119:Exam Results [5]
Ignoring the chuckle sounding from my right, I sat down in my chair just as Professor Donna reached the blackboard and began speaking.
Glancing around the classroom, I was surprised to find the students already partially divided into factions.
Those in the right sections all seemed closer to Charlotte, while those in the left sections supported Liam.
Those in the middle column were like the swing states in the United States’ president election process, not yet having chosen a side.
The class was more energetic than usual, due to the news of Liam and Charlotte’s advancement, so Professor Donna repeated herself a few times before announcing.
"I hope you all won’t neglect your elemental studies because of this mana selection process. Remember, you cannot have one without the other."
As she turned around and began writing various formulas on the whiteboard, I sighed and leaned back in my chair.
For my individual rank to actually mean anything to guilds, I would have to retain it for at least a month or two.
But, with midterms coming up, my rank could easily drop.
Or...I could leverage my current position within the Imperial class with a guild right now and sign a contract.
Then, I wouldn’t have to worry about my individual rank dropping in the future.
I still hadn’t managed to leave the academy and head to the capital city.
Security was too tight for me to sneak out, and during the school year, except for special events, students were required to stay on the island.
Of course, there was the traveling and antique club, both of which occasionally left the academy’s island under administrative permission.
But, for reasons relating to the plot line, I had abstained from the club fair entirely, not joining a single club.
What I had done was actually normal for an Imperial student.
Only about twenty percent of the class had attended the club fair, and a lower ten percent had actually joined a club.
The club fair was simply an event where booths would be placed all over the plaza, and seniors would desperately attempt to recruit juniors.
Since the fair had already occurred about two weeks ago, clubs were already beginning to have their first and second sessions.
Today was the antique club’s second meeting, so members, including Evangel and her former Worldly teammates, would travel to a nearby mountain range, where an ancient excavation site was located.
During that time, I could leave the mountain and travel downward to a nearby city to purchase some artifacts from local dealers.
However, I would have to keep a good alibi.
Coincidentally, right at the time when Evangel and her group reached the mountains, a sudden discovery was made on the mountain, revealing a dungeon.
Hundreds of different demonic beasts would flood the unprepared personnel on the mountain, forcing the Glaive academy students to take action and fight.
If I simply disappeared through all that to buy artifacts, I would, without a doubt, seem suspicious and be investigated.
Thus, the antique club was a no-go for me.
In the original book, a Worldly class student had died during the attack on the mountain, revealing to Evangel the dangers of beasts and increasing his vengeful spirit toward demons.
Glancing past Mira and Evangel on my left, I wondered if that plot point would change.
The current Evangel was far stronger than the book one, so perhaps, this time around, she would be able to save everyone on the mountain.
*Ring~ring*
Thankfully, there was no mentorship training today, so as the bell rang, I comfortably got out of my chair.
However, at that moment, before any student could exit the classroom, Professor Donna suddenly turned around and said in an excited tone.
"Oh, I almost forgot!"
After rummaging through a couple of papers on her lecture, she readjusted her glasses before continuing in an ecstatic tone.
"Many of you might not know...due to the disconnect between the Imperial class and clubs...But the antique club is hosting its second official meeting today."
"Students within the club will travel to the nearby Hajin mountain range to explore an ancient excavation site, where they will be introduced to all types of new elemental particles."
"So to encourage attendance, I have decided to give an extra point of credit on our midterm exams to those who attend the trip."
"You do not have to join the club for the points; simply going on the trip and exploring the mountain range is enough."
"You must take the entire trip, which stretches from the official end of classes today to tomorrow morning."
"Tents and sleeping gear will be provided; please just bring your notebooks and brain!"
Immediatly, the previously silent classroom burst into excitement as students excitedly began talking.
"CANCEL OUR PLANS!"
"You know, yesterday, I was just talking about how much I wanted to go camping!"
Many Imperial students were unhappy with their individual rankings from the practical exams, and mid-terms were the perfect way to improve that.
An extra credit point on the infamously hard Introduction to Elemental’s class could go a long way.
Ignoring the commotion, Professor Donna grabbed a paper and placed it on the desk right before the sliding door, before saying.
"If you’d like to sign up for the trip day, please write your name on the paper."
Pausing for a moment and scanning the entire classroom, Donna chuckled before continuing.
"And, yes, I will be checking to make sure everyone who writes their name on the paper attends."
"Attending students need to report to the academy’s front gate at 3:00 PM sharp."
While most students walked toward the paper, ignoring the door out of the classroom, I sighed, exiting the row after Mira and Envagel.
Too many changes....too many changes.
Why had Professor Donna decided to promote this trip to her class?
Why had it gone from a three-hour excursion to an overnight trip?
But, most importantly, what were going to be the effects of all this!?
Unfortunately, there was no way to find out.
The number and power level of students heading to the mountain were increasing significantly, so would the number and power level of the demonic beasts also change?
Shaking my head, I walked past the paper, out the door, and toward the staircase to the third-floor dining hall.
...
...
...
Pacing back and forth in my dorm room, I gazed out the window to my right and honed in on the part of the academy where a massive gateway was located.
Despite having its own mana gate, the academy rarely allowed students to use it due to privacy concerns, but the antique club had permission.
Did I really have to go on that damned trip?
What if some important plot figure like the princess were to die on that mountain?
No...I wasn’t their babysitter.
I couldn’t watch and protect them at every moment, did I?
I just had to trust that they were strong enough to protect themselves...!
Somehow, those words didn’t feel too reassuring.
Halting and sitting down on my wooden chair, I leaned backward, putting my feet atop the desk and basking in the sunlight.
I had a free period, but class was already over for me.
Mountain attack...Perhaps, I could warn the academy in advance about the attack, so they would send extra personnel on the trip with the students?
How would I explain? I knew, though.
And, there was no way for me to anonymously hand in a letter.
The remnant mana traces on the letter from my writing would just lead the school to me.
Standing up out of my chair and exiting my room, I descended the staircase into the empty common area.
There on a nearby desk lay the exact paper Professor Donna had urged us to sign in her class.
Carefully looking around, I discreetly peeked at the paper, noting the important figures.
[Charlotte]
[Scarlett]
[Zach]
[Zeke]
Grabbing a pencil, I rapidly scribbled my name down before taking out another paper and folding it into a letter.
In the letter, I wrote the following.
[Dear Grand Duke Xiao,]
[Your son, Zeke, is currently in grave danger on the Hajin Mountain Range. Please come quickly."]
[Thanks, Imperial Student 2]
I needed some insurance if I were going to go, and the grand duke of the North’s strength was just enough.
Keeping the letter in my pocket, I sent my elemental particles to my right hand, waiting for mana particles to eventually leak out and touch the letter.
Mana sensing and touching hadn’t been a topic at all during Daisy’s training sessions, as my Time element had been our focus.
Teleporting out of the building, I sighed, clutching my big pouch of money, and reluctantly headed to the academy’s very own store.
The academy’s store was like a luxury brand.
They simply attached the Glaive name to the products, and decided that was justification enough to increase the price of their products tenfold
