Chapter 130: Chapter 130:Camping [1]
Turning around at the familiar voice, I spotted Sage standing on the staircase while waving at me, trying to catch my attention.
"second best...option?"
Before I could even react, the portal suddenly spat out a wolf...which just immediately fell to the ground and splattered against the floating cliffside.
Was this even fair!?
How was I spawnkilling!?
*STEP*
*STEP*
As countless footsteps sounded behind me, I looked further up the staircase and spotted a group of familiar figures.
Coal led the group down the stairs with his broadsword equipped, followed by Levi with two short swords, Chae with a bow, and Melissa with a wand.
And at the very back, even barely visible with my right eye, was Mira, staggering at the back and gasping for breath.
Noticing my gaze, Coal immediately shouted.
"HELP HAS ARRIVED; WE CAN TAKE OVER FROM HERE!"
I could tell that he had no bad intentions with those words as he simply wanted me to rest after my solo fight, but my eyes couldn’t help but narrow passively-aggressively.
Below me, the cliffside suddenly began ascending upward, preventing any of the new wolves falling out of the portal from hitting the students at basecamp.
A moment later, a horde of flying wolves emerged from the portal, with much smaller wings than the miniboss, and flew downward at the cliffside.
Yet, none of them got close despite the fact that the island was quite literally rising and coming toward them.
One by one, their eyes closed, causing them to fly off course and bang onto the sides of the mountain, dying or damaging their wings upon impact.
Drowsiness.
There, on the ascending cliffside, was Charlotte, gazing upward at the portal with a smile.
As the second and final wave started, spitting out some wolves that could fly and others that could jump far enough to reach the mountain without falling, Coal and his group reached me.
Staring at my limp middle figure, I paused and stepped back, commanding my time-elemental particles to flow there and repair it.
Although my body had been heavily damaged as a result of the elemental slash, it wasn’t anything my muscle-recovery ability couldn’t fix with time.
But, for now, I was out of commission.
At least, until the boss monster made its appearance.
Staring at the scene in front of me, I couldn’t help but doubt my choice to fight solo.
By this time, the cliffside had risen back to its original height, now sitting right under the tree and portal.
All of the beasts coming out of the portal had adapted through wings or large leaps, so spawnkilling had been patched.
However, the cliff still wasn’t reattached to the mountain.
Such a feat was impossible.
At any moment, it could fall if the person supporting it failed or faltered for the slightest moment.
That probably explained why the entire group was rushing to kill the wolves as fast as possible to deal with the boss monster.
While running up the staircase, Mira shouted commands and observations, notifying her teammates of incoming attacks.
"Coal, YOUR RIGHT!"
"CHARLOTTE, TWO INCOMING."
"CHAE, SHOOT THE ONE TO YOUR RIGHT!"
"LEVI IS DOWN, SOMEONE COVER FOR HIM!"
The six of them worked like a machine, adapting to the new beasts and covering for each other when needed.
Wolves spewed out of the portal like cannonballs, landing right on the mountain or flying into the air, before attacking with their sharp jaws and long claws.
Coal stood at the forefront with his broadsword, while Charlotte and Melissa stood behind him, slowing and debuffing the wolves so he could handle them.
As a wolf bared its claws before Coal, he cleanly swung his broadsword, slicing it in half, and immediately onto the next.
Melissa alternated between slowing the wolves and strengthening Coal while Charlotte put the wolves to sleep, allowing him to easily kill them.
Levi and Chae were on the sides, individually dealing with small wolves that had gotten past Coal’s main group.
After a couple more seconds of observation, I felt a soft pressure on my right shoulder, prompting me to nod my head.
"Are the teachers clearing out the basecamp?"
Nodding her head, Sage leaned back against the wall and slid down, sitting beside me, and answered.
"We managed to get a scientist to go down and warn the teachers at base camp to evacuate."
Pumping my fist in the air, I sarcastically announced.
"So, I didn’t die!"
*FLICK*
As Sage flicked my forehead like a teacher scolding their student, I also leaned back.
Taking on this portal alone really was a bad idea...I had nearly washed out after the first stage.
Then again, I had performed an elemental slash, which was a huge thing to add to my arsenal.
Anyway, I did not regret my decision to inform Sage about the portal and tell her to get help, even if it meant having to partially risk my identity.
Breaking the silence, Sage gazed ahead at the squadron of Imperial and Worldly students before asking.
"This would have been a real mess if the portal was left unchecked, huh?"
It seemed the weight and power of this portal were starting to sink in for her.
Stretching my arms behind me, I casually answered.
"Well, thank the lords, someone found it."
Taking my hint, Sage tilted her head and smiled.
"Yes, thank god, we ’stumbled’ across it!"
Pausing for a moment, Sage suddenly stuck her head out in front of mine and stared at me with a curious expression.
"Is your eye always like that?"
Backing up so that the back of my head was to the hard rock wall, I simply sighed and nodded my head.
After this, I’d probably have to wear that stupid eye patch for a couple of weeks until my right eye returned to normal.
Returning her gaze to the fight, Sage casually pointed at the portal and asked.
"Was it always that big?"
Indeed, the portal had expanded to the height of the giant and a width of at least ten yards.
The boss monster was approaching.
