Chapter 56: Chapter 56:Ten Shining Stars [5]

Not bothering to clean up my hair and unwrinkle my collared shirt, I stretched out my arms above my head, interlocking my hands, and walked toward the door.

It felt as if my days were either extremely busy or boring, with no middle ground.

One day, I was fighting the old hero and his army of over a hundred people, and in the next moment, I was watching a fireworks show with the new hero.

Similar to a high school, Glaive held classes or practical training sessions from eight in the morning to three in the afternoon, with lunch breaks and passing periods scattered in between.

It was nice to return to an ordered life after all I had been through.

Peeking my head out of my cracked-open door, I glanced around the empty second floor for a moment before descending down the cylinder-shaped staircase.

As I reached the halfway step between the second and first floor, I spotted a male figure resting on one of the leather couches below, his eyes closed.

Could he really not make it to his room?

Obviously, though, I didn’t dare to say anything.

After all, he was the infamous first son of the grand duke of the North, also known as the "Zekrom’s Heir."

Zekrom was the first known human to possess the lightning element and used it for good, defending humans against the decades of purple thunderstorms that plagued the world during the new age.

The new age referred to times when the number of the enlightened was less than a thousand, and natural phenomena were common, occurring almost every day.

There weren’t any normal tornadoes or tsunamis, but disasters that were boosted to their maximum.

Tsunamis the size of continents, thunderstorms that lasted months and contained purple bolts that could alone kill millions in a single strike, and tornadoes that could instantly kill a human on contact.

Humans were not fighting against demons, but nature itself.

Because if they didn’t, nature would destroy them.

While your gift is supposed to assign you a certain weapon like a crossbow or broadsword, it doesn’t always, like in my and Evangel’s case.

However, there is one thing that it always assigns.

An element.

Their power can be classified into five categories based on their rarity and visibility in our world.

Foundational (~90%):

These are the obvious four elements of fire, water, earth, and air, which make up the world and are visible everywhere.

Since these elements are extremely common, users have access to their element at all times, allowing them to constantly throw out high-power attacks without high mana usage.

Derivation (~5%):

These are the more specific material ones like metal, stone, ice, and lava, which all derive from the four common elements.

By having control of a specific and tangible substance, users can be creative and make a variety of unpredictable attacks, allowing for a more personalized fighting style.

Known (~1%):

These are elements we know exist, but we can’t or can barely see them with the eye, like sound, electricity, shadow, magnetism, and temperature.

Though these elements are extremely difficult to master, they are different from other elements in that they are nearly impossible to counter without immense preparation.

How does one block a sound wave? They must cover their ears, but how can they fight without their hands?

Conceptual (~0.01%):

These are completely intangible elements that directly influence our world, such as light, darkness, memory, emotion, lightning, and decay.

Little to nothing is known about them...though all of them can be created by humans.

For example, Humans created the lightbulb for light.

Forces of Nature (~0%):

Gravity, Space, Time, Wind, Void, and Entropy.

These are forces that only nature should be able to command.

They control other elements, such as how time causes decay.

They cannot be created or destroyed. They are eternal.

Although these elements are supposed to be assigned by complete chance, certain families hold control over the pathways for these elements.

For example, the lightning element has been somehow preserved and passed through the grand duke of the North’s bloodline for centuries.

As long as one member of the family possesses the element, they can pass it on to their children through an extremely secretive method, known by only one person.

Even I do not know this method.

The book simply mentioned that the grand duke of the North knew of a way to pass the lightning element to his children.

Although I know how to pass the element of fire down through a family, the method of inheritance varies for each element.

Looking at the young and influential lightning element prodigy in front of me, I stepped onto the ground floor and walked toward the wall I had entered from.

What would happen the day I was forced to reveal my element?

While it would most likely cause a lot of commotion and attract a lot of attention, it would also be a good thing.

No one would even suspect me of being a demon in the slightest, as it is widely known that only humans possess the ability to have gifts and become awakened or enlightened.

The fact that non-humans could become enlightened would only be discovered in a couple of years from now.

Stepping onto the middle of the mana circle in the lobby, I watched as my surroundings immediately shifted, without delay, and an empty stone path came into sight.

In the distance, far above the large oak trees, I could see a massive building with all the lights on and countless figures inside.

It shone like a star and contrasted greatly with the depressing and dark night sky.

The dining hall and academic building for the Worldly class.

Ignoring it, I walked onto the path that went deeper into the island before eventually reaching the main street of the academy.

Without a single tree in sight, countless buildings towered in front of me, most of them with lights off.

And, right in front of me, stood a building double the size of the Imperial dormitory, with only the lights on the ground floor on.

Pushing through the glass doors of the building, I was immediately met with a staircase that led downward into the square-shaped flat area.

Before the staircase and above the flat area, there were two halls on my right and left that led around the building, eventually meeting each other and connecting.

On the squared-shaped sunken floor, countless tables, with around four chairs around each, stood, utensils and tissues already laid out.

Pausing before descending the staircase, I relied on my strong nose and eventually found a savory scent, following it.

Turning to my right, I walked down the hall before being met with two walls and being forced to turn left.

And as I turned the corner, countless open steel containers, full of vibrant and different types of food, appeared.

At the very front stood a stack of plates, and a sign that read, "Imperial Class Welcoming Buffet."

Placing my hand on the hall’s railing, which was preventing me from falling down into the sitting area, I walked over and grabbed a plate.

After filling my plate with different assortments of meat like chicken and ground beef, I added some sides and sauces. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm

As I stared down at my full plate, I slowly realized that...it really wasn’t much different than what I usually ate.

Since this was a world with magic, I was expecting some crazy and special foods, but it was nearly identical to Earth.

However, at that moment, I suddenly smelt something sweet and turned around, facing the wall opposite.

And, there, on the other side of the building, lay countless dessert stations with crepes, cotton candy, and even hot chocolate.

Alternating gazes between my plate and the dessert bar, I reluctantly turned my head and looked downward.

Seeing the empty sitting area, I walked back to the glass doors and headed down to the staircase, choosing a random seat.

Although I wasn’t mad that the dining hall was empty...where was everyone?

Surely, they wouldn’t be just sitting in their rooms and lazily lounging around, right...?

These influential talents and important figures had been controlled and forced to train their entire life, without a second of free time, so that they could live up to their families’ expectations.

However, now, they were the academy.

No parents were here to tell them what to do or force them into something.

They were free.

Thus, I expected them to be curious and excited...yet all of them were lying around in the dorm.

Or, perhaps, there was some welcome party going on that I just wasn’t invited to.

Either way, I wasn’t bothered, so I picked up and dug into he plate in front of me.

...

...

...

Feeling extremely bloated, I glanced at the two empty plates in front of me before standing up.

Initially, I had planned to eat as much as possible, to satisfy my stomach, and then immediately leave, so that no important figures would see me.

Yet, now that the dining hall was empty, I didn’t have to worry about the other Imperial class students, allowing me to enjoy the delicious food before me.

After stacking my two empty plates on the table, I ascended these stairs and headed outside, immediately feeling a breeze rush against my face.

The night was now colored a complete pitch-black, with only a half-crescent moon and a couple of stars visible.

All around me were streetlamps that had been automatically turned on by the academy, highlighting the main academy street.

Although the streets weren’t full, they weren’t empty, as many Worldly class students had already formed groups and walked past the building, eager to explore the academy.
