Chapter 76: Chapter 76:The Academy’s First Night [5]

The male and female second years were both in the Imperial dorm class and respectively ranked first and second amongst all their peers.

It seemed Mira and I weren’t the only Imperial students participating in the competition.

They wouldn’t really have a place in the book until the school’s annual practice exams, when first-years paired with second and third-years to face against others in a battle-royale style format.

Unfortunately, Evangel had not been teamed up with the duo.

Thus, Evangel and her teammates were knocked out within the first twenty minutes of the battle royale upon meeting the duo. freewēbnoveℓ.com

The moment had served to humble Evangel and display to the reader the massive gaps in power between first, second, and third-year students.

Succumbing to my exhaustion, I allowed my head to fall backward as I gazed up at the normal night-black sky, no longer blocked by the magic bubble.

Finally, as a gust of wind brushed against my face and pushed my amber-brown hair back, Principal Alice’s energetic voice sounded one last time.

As if she were commentating the Super Bowl or the final game of the World Cup, her voice rang out so loud and far that I was sure people all the way within the capital city had heard it.

"AND...YOUR OFFICIAL WINNERS AND TOP-PLACERS...ALL THE WAY FROM THE FIRST-YEAR..."

Letting the words "FIRST-YEAR" float in the air, principal Alice paused, letting the sounds of gasps and people spitting out their drinks pass by.

Were they watching and listening in right now? My fellow Imperial class students.

Well..it’s not like they have a choice.

If they had been asleep or not paying attention, the sheer volume of Alice’s voice would have definitely woken them up and forced them to hear.

Snape was probably watching too...I couldn’t imagine his face when he learned of two no-background Imperial class students winning the competition.

If I won this competition, a lot of attention would be directly toward me, so he wouldn’t be able to do anything too far and out in the open against me.

*STEP*

*STEP*

Flicking my head upward as the sound of footsteps filled the empty silence the principal had left, I confusedly looked back.

And, there running through the top seating sections of the coliseum in a circle, was Mira.

Jumping over seats and running up and down stairs, Mira opened her mouth the widest she could, revealing her pearly white teeth.

However, before her words could leave her mouth and enter my ears, the overpowering voice of the principal echoed.

"MIRA AND JETT OF THE IMPERIAL CLASS!"

*STEP*

As our names echoed throughout the entire academy, solidifying themselves in everyone’s memories, I looked at the approaching Mira.

Out of breath and panting for air, Mira slowed to a walk, now only a mere ten steps away from me.

Staggering like a drunkard, I stumbled forward and raised my left hand before opening my mouth.

But...for the third time, now, a sudden and very annoying voice interrupted me before I could even speak.

All the energy and emotion seemed to be drained from the principal as she announced in a robotic voice.

"The rewards will be handed out to the respective winners by the end of the week."

"Curfew begins in 30 minutes, so I suggest you get to your rooms now."

Staring at my figure and my raised left hand, Mira exhausedly tilted her head with a dazed expression.

Oh, right, no high-fives in this world...

Gathering enough breath, I sighed and said.

"Raise your left hand."

As she raised her left hand, I took a couple of steps forward, closing the distance between us, before shaking my head.

Then, cocking my left hand backward, I slowly rushed it forward, perfectly alligning it with Mira’s raised hand.

*CLAP*

As our palms collided, perfectly overlapping with each other, a soft clapping sound echoed throughout the silent coliseum, making it seem much louder than it actually was.

While I put my hand down and stared upward at the still-frozen phoenix, Mira confusedly stared at her left palm, trying to understand what I had just done.

Finally, after a couple of seconds, Mira spoke, without any interruptions.

"Well...what now?"

Coughing and turning back to face her, I sighed and pointed at the long set of stairs that led all the way back down to the ground.

"That..."

Seeing Mira let out a groan, I alternated glances between my trembling legs and hands, considering whether or not I’d be able to make the long walk back.

I had already used my time element once to revert my muscles back to their peak state...

For a fire element user to summon their particles, they had to be angry, passionate, and rebellious.

For water, the emotions were calm, tranquil, and gentle.

However, for the rarer elements, like lightning, the emotions and thoughts required were unknown to everyone but the families that possessed them.

And, for the rarest of rarest elements, like time and space, the methods were unknown...until now.

Just now, back when I was in the middle of the arena, I had discovered one of the emotions or thought processes required to summon my time elemental particles.

Helplessness.

Fighting against the endless and constant flow of time was impossible, like a fish trying to swim upstream.

Thus, when faced with the challenge of time, one was helpless.

At that moment, as I realized that my body was going to give out before I could make it back to the Imperial dorm, a feeling of helplessness overwhelmed me.

Concentrating on my legs, I ignored every other muscle in my body and willed the grey substance to flow downward through my chest.

Although I could tell there was a lake of grey liquid somewhere within my body, only a small puddle followed my command.

That was my limit, for now.

At that moment, grey veins appeared on my left and right legs, and my feet began bouncing up and down, full of energy.

This was only a temporary solution, as once I used up the grey substance or recalled it, my legs would ache even more.
