Chapter 87: Chapter 87:Mentorship [1]
A moment later, an emotionless voice sounded as we made eye contact.
"I got the mana. I win."
Suddenly, for a brief second, the sadness consuming and slowly eating at me vanished, replaced by a bittersweet smile.
My mouth forcibly opened and let out a chuckle. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
I had just woken up, and that was the first thing she decided to say?
She had just seen me cry while sleeping, and her first thought was to admit she had stolen the mana from me?
Her snow-white hair blew back as she kneeled mere centimeters away from me, looking down at my face with the same expression as always, like a stone statue.
As I continued silently staring at her, not having enough energy to even speak, Evangel confusedly tilted her head.
After a couple more seconds passed, I regained feeling in most of my body, except for my legs, but I didn’t dare to speak.
How could I after my words before the mana gate?
Ironically, though, I didn’t feel awkward in the slightest while lying down next to her in silence, staring up at the sky.
*WHOOSH*
At that moment, a sudden force of wind blew through the area, causing all the grass to fall forward in unison.
A needed shiver passed through my body, cooling me down both physically and mentally.
Finally mustering the energy to say something, I coughed and asked.
"Was that you?"
Titling her head even further to the right, like a confused bird, Evangel stared at me in absolute silence.
Shaking my head, I stared up at the light-blue sky, devoid of any clouds, before eventually succumbing to the heaviness of my eyelids.
I wanted to see her.
I wanted to comfort her, tell her that I was alright.
If I had truly disappeared back on Earth, she would be worried sick.
But I knew I couldn’t.
Life was cruel.
*WHOOSH*
Under the pressure of another sudden gust of my wind, my eyes flew open, and the image of Evangel’s snow white hair flying backward appeared.
What was I supposed to do now?
I had let my greatest enemy see me in a state like this.
Placing my palms behind me and boosting myself up so that I was sitting upright, I sighed and said.
"Everyone’s probably waiting for us; we should go."
"Ok"
Not skipping a beat, Evangel immediately answered with her usual cold expression and stood back up before staring at my struggling figure.
Reaching a hand down to me, Evangel pretended to look away for some reason, acting as if she couldn’t see my inability to stand up.
Confused, I grasped her palm, and immediately, a sudden pressure yanked me upward onto my two feet.
As I took a step toward the staircase and let go of her hand, Evangen followed, walking side-by-side with me silently.
I didn’t question it. I was too exhausted, mentally and physically, to even care.
*STEP*
*STEP*
When the two of us reached the top of the staircase, the rainforest environment quickly came into sight, with Professor Snape standing under a large jungle tree.
Students surrounded him in a semi-circle and glanced at us with annoyed expressions, seemingly saying, "We had to wait all this time for them!?"
Ignoring them, the two of us continued side-by-side and joined the semi-circle, standing next to each other while looking at Professor Snape.
Bracing myself, I activated elemental sight for less than a second and glanced to my left, where Evangel stood.
Sure enough, the light-blue hue that had been surrounding my arm now flickered on and off Evangel’s arm.
Peeking at Professor Snape, I tried to look for any sort of reaction, but he just looked down at the ground, hiding his face and seemingly not realizing Evangel had won.
Surprisingly, though, we weren’t even the last students to arrive, as after a minute, two final students arrived.
They were none other than Charlotte, the princess, and Scarlet, a red-haired girl with a long ponytail and blood-red eyes, similar to mine.
Of course, they received a much better welcome than we did, as besides Liam, no one dared throw them an annoyed glance.
Finally, as the princess joined the group, Professor Snape spoke, while still facing the ground.
"Will the winner step forward?"
"..."
Pure silence emerged as everyone curiously glanced around, trying to figure out who had won.
After a couple of moments, no one had stepped forward, yet Professor Snape remained silent while still gazing at the dirt ground.
Most of the students’ gazes were on Scarlet, Charlotte, Zeke, and Liam, but when none of them stepped forward, everyone began confusedly whispering.
"Did no one win?"
"I bet this dumbass teacher didn’t even hide a particle in the first place!"
"Did we really waste all this time searching for a particle that doesn’t exist?!"
Sighing, I nudged Evangel’s shoulder, but she remained still, silently looking ahead.
Professor Snape was already going to be mad when he saw some random like Evangel had won, but now that she had refused to step forward and wasted his time, he would be furious.
Of course, this was a good thing for me, was it not?
Placing my mouth to her ear, I whispered in the most stuck-up and cocky tone I could muster.
"If you’re not going to step up, then give it back to me. I was the one who got in the first place, wasn’t I?"
However, despite my taunts and tone, she remained still with an emotionless expression, not even acknowledging my existence beside her.
Suddenly turning around to face me in a motion so fast that wind was generated and blew toward me, Evangel gazed at me, making eye contact, and pointed to her arm.
"Do you want it?"
At a loss for words, I paused and asked.
"If I don’t take it, will you go up?"
Almost immediately, she rapidly shook her head with the same silent and indecipherable expression.
What was she thinking?
This was her chance to shine in the Imperial class.
Escape the restrictions placed on those with no background and prove herself.
In the novel, Evangel would have done this without any hesitation, wouldn’t she?
