Chapter 124: Chapter 124: Sales Commission

"Mr. Hawthorne, when are you going to sell the photos?" Tang Xiaonan asked.

"Tomorrow morning."

"Are you walking?" Tang Xiaonan frowned. ’That’s over fifteen miles! Your legs are going to give out.’

Adrian Hawthorne nodded. ’Once I make some money, I’ll buy a bicycle. That’ll make getting around much easier.’

"You’re going to sell *these*?" Jim Thorne found it amusing. "Can you really make money off this stuff? How much can you get for some useless photos?"

"Lots of people are scrambling to buy them! Twenty cents for one, or three for fifty cents!" Tang Xiaonan declared.

Jim Thorne’s heart started to pound. ’Whoa, a single piece of paper can sell for twenty cents? People in the city must not be too bright. They have money but don’t know enough to buy meat. Why would they buy this useless stuff you can’t eat or play with?’

"How much money can you make from this?"

Jim Thorne was getting antsy. He wanted to earn money too. His pockets were completely empty—cleaner than the soles of his feet. He couldn’t scrounge up a single cent. Every time he went to town and saw those big meat buns, all he could do was stare and drool.

’If he could just earn some money, even just one dollar, he could go to town and live it up for once.’

"You want to sell them?" Adrian Hawthorne asked.

Jim Thorne looked conflicted. He was too proud to ask Adrian Hawthorne for a handout, but he really wanted to make money. He was completely torn. Mumbling, he said, "Well, that depends on how much you can make off this stuff. If it’s just a few cents, forget it. It’d be a waste of my time."

Adrian Hawthorne considered for a moment, then said, "I have two options for you. First, you can buy inventory from me at fifteen cents a photo. How many you sell is up to you. The second option is you sell for me, and I’ll give you three cents for every photo you sell. The more you sell, the more you make. Which one will it be?"

Tang Xiaonan’s eyes went wide. ’A boss is a boss, after all,’ she thought. ’He’s already thinking about sales commissions. No wonder he’ll become such a powerhouse in the business world.’

Jim Thorne thought about it seriously, then asked, "Can I get them on credit?"

"Of course not," Adrian Hawthorne refused flatly. "I can’t take on all the risk."

Jim Thorne rubbed his nose, admitting to himself that asking for credit wasn’t a great move. "I’ll take the second option."

’The second option paid less,’ he reasoned, ’but it required no upfront capital. If he couldn’t sell any, he wouldn’t have to worry about taking a loss. It was much safer than the first. And if the photos really did sell well, he could just use his earnings to buy inventory later. That way, he’d make an extra two cents per photo!’

A slight smile touched Adrian Hawthorne’s lips. He added, "If you have friends who want to sell, they can also get inventory from me, but they’ll only get a two-cent commission for each one."

Jim Thorne’s eyes suddenly lit up, and he puffed his chest out. His opinion of Adrian Hawthorne improved considerably. ’This kid’s got good judgment,’ he thought. ’He knows I’m exceptionally talented and will definitely sell more than anyone else.’

"I’ll see how it goes first," Jim Thorne said, trying to act nonchalant.

Inside, though, he had already made a plan. ’If I can make thirty cents tomorrow, I’ll get my best buddies to sell with me. Good brothers should share the wealth, after all.’ 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

"Alright," Adrian Hawthorne laid out the rules. "But you can’t tell your friends you’re getting the photos from me. I’ll give the inventory to you, and your commission will be three cents per photo. You’ll be responsible for distributing them to your friends. I won’t get involved in anything else."

’He didn’t want to stir up trouble. If the people on Millstone Peak found out he was running a business, it would cause a huge uproar. The official policies were still unclear, so it was best to be cautious.’

"Deal. I’ll go into the city with you tomorrow," Jim Thorne agreed readily. "But why Vessaria? Wraven is closer. We just have to cross the mountain."

"I get my supply in Wraven. I promised the supplier I wouldn’t compete with them there," Adrian Hawthorne explained. Then he added, "We leave at five tomorrow morning. That should get us into the city around eight."
