Chapter 75: Chapter 75: An Unexpected Affair

If Jacqueline Spann had known the meat came from the Thorne family, she would have sooner died than eaten it. Now, she felt so nauseated she wanted to vomit. She was even more furious with her mother for so eagerly seeking out Felix Thorne, causing her to suffer the Thorne family’s humiliation today—and right in front of Clayton Xavier, no less, while they said all those horrible things.

’Clayton Xavier must look down on me now, won’t he?’

"Oh, you ’bought’ it, did you? Half a pound of meat for ten cents? Your family’s cash must be as big as your ass. Coming out to buy meat with only ten cents on you... weren’t you just trying to whore yourself out? Too bad for you. Your mom didn’t pick a very lucky day to go out. My older brother and I were both there yesterday."

Tang Xiaonan’s eyes widened. ’This world inside the book is way more exciting than the actual book.’

’Phoenix Golding and Dad are actually having an affair?’

’No wonder Phoebe Huxley and her three older brothers gnashed their teeth whenever the Spann family was mentioned!’

Suddenly, someone covered her ears. Tang Xiaonan twisted her head in protest, but the hands didn’t budge. She looked up to see Adrian Hawthorne, his face expressionless. She could only pout and let the big shot hold on, since she could still hear everything anyway.

But Tang Xiaonan was growing more displeased with Felix Thorne. ’I’ll have to give this so-called father of mine a good talking-to later. Whether or not they actually got physical, emotional cheating is still cheating. Hmph, I don’t want a scumbag for a dad!’

"It would’ve been fine even if you weren’t there. Your dad isn’t that kind of person." Goldie Thorne still had faith in his older brother.

’It was true he treated Phoenix Golding a little differently, but the most he’d do was give her some meat. He would never dare to do anything more. If his sister-in-law found out, she’d take a knife and chop his older brother in half.’

What others didn’t know was that the person in the Thorne family with the best pig-butchering skills was not Felix Thorne, but Phoebe Huxley.

Phoebe Huxley was the one who had truly inherited her father’s craft. Back in the day, Mr. Huxley had been the best pig butcher for a hundred miles around. Unfortunately, his son was too timid, so the family trade was passed down entirely to his daughter, Phoebe Huxley, and his apprentice, Felix Thorne. Even so, Phoebe Huxley was still a cut above.

"That’s not necessarily true. A hot ass offering itself for free... you’d be a fool not to take it. My dad isn’t a monk."

Patrick Thorne muttered quietly. He had no confidence in his old man. ’It’s not his fault, really. How many men can keep it in their pants? And Phoenix Golding *is* prettier and more alluring than his mom. Throwing herself at him like that... Hmph. If he and his older brother hadn’t been watching, his dad and that vixen would probably have done it right on the side of the road.’

"You need proof to make claims like that. Don’t spout nonsense without evidence. More importantly, you’re slandering an elder. Patrick Thorne, apologize to Jacqueline," Clayton Xavier rebuked him, his face flushing.

’That foul language disgusted him. He had great respect for Phoenix Golding and simply couldn’t believe that the dignified, graceful woman he knew could be the person that uncle and nephew were describing. They had to be making malicious accusations.’

"Apologize my ass! Clayton Xavier, you mind your own damn business! You’re just a landlord’s whelp, what right do you have to tell me what to do!" Patrick Thorne exploded, rolling up his sleeves to start a fight.

Clayton Xavier’s handsome face flushed crimson. His family background was his biggest sore spot. Because his family were landlords, anyone felt they could look down on him. ’But the Gang of Four has already been smashed,’ he thought. ’What right does Patrick Thorne have to still bring up class status?’

"The government has already issued a directive. We’re not supposed to judge people by their class status anymore! Patrick Thorne, stop throwing the word ’landlord’ around. I’m discussing the facts with you, and the fact is, it’s wrong for you to slander an elder," Clayton Xavier argued, trying to reason with him.

Jacqueline Spann said through her tears, "Don’t say any more to them. You can’t reason with these thugs. Let’s go."

Tang Xiaonan hadn’t planned on getting involved, but she wasn’t happy to hear what Jacqueline Spann said. ’Who is she to call my brother a thug?’

"My second brother is not a thug! Your mom was just trying to take advantage of our family! You can’t even buy a scrap of meat for ten cents! Second Brother, how much meat did Dad give her?" Tang Xiaonan shouted.
