Transmigrated Genius: Fragile Heiress Reigns Supreme-Chapter 634 - 636: Unraveling (Part 1)
Doctor Liu and Ruan Jingliu entered together.
Xiqiu and First Madam hid behind the screen.
The two took turns feeling the pulse, and then examined the wound. Doctor Liu said, "The wound has been handled well. We’ll prescribe some medicine to reduce the Marquis’s fever. If he doesn’t have another fever, the wound won’t be a major issue. However, the Marquis has lost a lot of blood and may be unconscious for several hours!"
The Grand Dowager breathed a sigh of relief, gratitude evident on her face as she looked at him, "Thank you for going to the trouble!" She stepped forward to cover Xiao Yanyi with a quilt.
"No need to thank me, Grand Dowager." He paused, glanced at the screen in the corner of his eye, and continued, "The wound was treated very meticulously. Even if I had done it myself, I fear I would not have been so thorough. If it hadn’t been for the timely intervention to stop the bleeding, I’m afraid I would have been helpless..." His implication was that if anyone deserved thanks, it should be the one who treated the wound.
The Grand Dowager glanced at the screen, nodded slightly, and said, "Have someone accompany you to prepare the prescription." Doctor Liu agreed, and Nanny Wu saw him out.
The First Madam stood by, her gaze thoughtfully resting on Xiqiu, with a meaningful look in her eyes.
"Elder Sister-in-law, let’s go out!" With Doctor Liu no longer in the room, the family could be more at ease. The First Madam nodded and stepped out from behind the screen first.
As soon as they were out, Xiqiu looked toward Ruan Jingliu, who was standing by the bed. Ruan Jingliu also looked at her. Their eyes met, Ruan Jingliu slightly nodded, indicating everything was alright!
Xiqiu also let out a long sigh of relief.
"Thank you, Nurse Zhang!" The Grand Dowager greeted Ruan Jingliu, who lightly shook her head. The Grand Dowager walked briskly to the bed, holding Xiao Yanyi’s hand, her eyes reddening again.
Ruan Jingliu nodded in greeting to Fourth Master Xiao, greeted the First Madam, and then approached Xiqiu, speaking softly, "The wound is not inflamed. Just remember to change the dressing daily." She paused and added, "Once the fever subsides, give some anti-inflammatory medicine. The rest, I’m sure, you understand without me saying."
Xiqiu was feeling overwhelmed and didn’t pay much attention to the possible implications in Ruan Jingliu’s words, nodding, "I will instruct the servants on the remaining matters."
Ruan Jingliu nodded, "Then I’ll take my leave first." She squeezed Xiqiu’s hand, "You don’t look well; take care of yourself!"
Xiqiu replied, "I have another matter to trouble you with later. Why not stay overnight here at the mansion? It’s quite late, and there’s a curfew in the city." Ruan Jingliu’s eyes moved subtly before she nodded, "Alright!"
Xiqiu arranged for Chunliu and Nanny Cen to prepare two rooms in Xiao Yanzheng’s courtyard, close to the Grand Dowager’s quarters, making it more convenient if Xiao Yanyi needed attention during the night: "Thank you, Sister Jingliu."
Ruan Jingliu said nothing, nodded at Xiqiu, greeted everyone, and Xiqiu personally escorted her to the door. They exchanged a few more words at the entrance before Ruan Jingliu, Chunliu, and Nanny Cen headed to Xiao Yanzheng’s courtyard.
Xiqiu turned around and encountered Fourth Master Xiao coming out of the room. Xiqiu asked, "Fourth Master, are you going to the outer courtyard?" Prince Rong was still waiting in the outer courtyard.
"Yes." Fourth Master Xiao’s gaze fell on her, speaking softly, "I’ll be back soon. You should rest early." His tone was filled with concern, fearing she was shocked by the events.
Xiqiu understood his concern, "I’m fine; please go. I’ll stay with Mother for a while longer, and I should check on Second Sister-in-law as well." Fourth Master Xiao’s brows furrowed as he listened, "Take more people with you!" Her behavior was unclear, neither fully stable nor unstable.
Xiqiu agreed, watched Fourth Master Xiao stride out, and suddenly called after him, "Fourth Master!" He turned to look at her, and Xiqiu softly said, "After all, he is a Commandery Prince."
The implication was to avoid conflict.
Fourth Master Xiao gave her a slight nod and strode out of the courtyard, heading all the way to the outer courtyard’s study. Inside the study, not only was Prince Rong present, but Shen Ji was also seated there. They each sat on one side, not speaking. As soon as Fourth Master Xiao entered, Shen Ji immediately stood up, approaching with, "Fourth Brother, is the Marquis alright?"
Prince Rong also came over, waiting earnestly for Fourth Master Xiao’s response.
Fourth Master Xiao’s expression was somber, replying, "Alright!" After speaking, he glanced at Prince Rong, noticing his tense expression finally relax.
Shen Ji sighed, "It’s truly fortunate amidst misfortune." Reflecting, he thought of Xiqiu and, though he hadn’t seen her, heard she returned. As she had been taken from the Shen Family’s hands, he still held it in his heart, "And Fourth Sister-in-law..."
"She is also alright!" Fourth Master Xiao gestured for them to sit, settling himself as well. Tianjing brought in tea and left after closing the door.
Hearing that Xiqiu was safe, Shen Ji exhaled a breath of relief. Though eager to inquire how Xiqiu escaped and how Fourth Master Xiao found her, given their rank, asking too much would be inappropriate.
He quickly returned to his seat; Prince Rong stood silently, and after a moment, turned to Fourth Master Xiao, "Old Fourth, I truly had no prior knowledge of this incident."
Fourth Master Xiao looked at him, "Please sit, Commandery Prince." Yet, Prince Rong didn’t sit immediately, prompting Fourth Master Xiao and Shen Ji also to remain standing. After some thought, Prince Rong finally settled in a chair with a swish of his robe.
As they all sat, Prince Rong began to explain, "Had I known beforehand, I would never have allowed her to act as she did. Fortunately, the Fourth Madam is unhurt; otherwise, I would be utterly to blame, deserving countless deaths."
Fourth Master Xiao displayed little emotion, but Shen Ji understood. His eyes widened in shock as he looked at Prince Rong, asking, "Could it be that this incident is the doing of Princess Chengning..." He couldn’t quite believe it but scrutinized Prince Rong. How could a mere woman use such cruel methods? Moreover, confined within the inner residence, how could she command so many well-trained guards?
Though not meeting Shen Ji’s accusatory gaze, Prince Rong understood his meaning. He knew this matter concerned relations between three households, at least not openly desiring to sever ties with the Shen Family now, let alone with Fourth Master Xiao!
He explained, "It involved Chengning and Manager Rong." He sighed, his face full of apologetic helplessness, "Chengning wrote to Manager Rong, instructing him to seize the Fourth Madam en route and later smuggle her back, claiming she had her reasons and plans. Manager Rong, upon receiving the letter..." His eyes flickered, "Just as he discovered that the Fourth Madam was heading to your mansion, this foolish servant took men and seized her."
Shen Ji frowned, hands clenching into fists on his lap. If it were merely a chance discovery, how could Manager Rong, knowing the Fourth Madam was in the Shen Mansion’s carriage, still have dared to abduct her and kill a dozen maidservants accompanying the carriage? Manager Rong, having served the former Crown Prince, had long been a cunning individual. His actions clearly intended to kill two birds with one stone!
