Transmigrated Genius: Fragile Heiress Reigns Supreme-Chapter 718 - 719: Waiting (1)
Tong Xiyang and Madam Ren’s intentions for coming were clear to her.
Ren Jun was still in the Ministry of Justice. The Wujin Bo Mansion was really being grilled over fire and oil right now. Given Ren Jun’s relationship with Prince Rong and their joint venture at the Drunken Immortal Pavilion, the Emperor just currently didn’t have time to deal with the Wujin Bo Mansion, and the court’s ministers hadn’t yet focused their attention on it. But should someone raise the issue, Ren Jun’s crime might not result in a death sentence, but incarceration would be unavoidable.
For Madam Ren and Tong Xiyang to come looking for her now, they must be at their wits’ end and hitting walls everywhere, otherwise, why else would they seek her out when Fourth Master Xiao wasn’t around!
Not meeting them was also fine. Given Tong Xiyang’s temperament, whether she helped or not, Tong Xiyang might have already held a grudge against her.
Besides, what could she do anyway!
She turned her thoughts and looked at Nanny Cen, nodded, and said, "You can go and tell them that I was frightened a few days ago and currently don’t dare to move while resting. Once I’m better, I’ll personally visit to apologize!"
"I understand." Nanny Cen responded, turned, and left the room.
Xiqiu sighed, leaned back against the chair, still holding the book she had been reading last night. Chunliu came in to change her tea, and Xiqiu put down the book, stood up, and moved her legs, asking, "Are Min and Xing up yet?"
"Yes, they’re in their room reading now." Chunliu said, as she put down the tea and frowned slightly, "You’ve been sitting all night, let me accompany you for a walk."
Xiqiu nodded and smiled, "Yes, it’s time to take a walk." Chunliu breathed a sigh of relief, supporting her as they went outside. As they walked slowly through the garden, Min ran over from a distance. Xiqiu beckoned to him with a smile, looking at his flushed little face, "Running so fast, where are you going?"
"Mother!" Min stopped in his tracks, tilted his head, and looked at Xiqiu, "Did you sleep in the study again last night?"
Xiqiu was startled upon hearing this, only realizing then that she had been in the study for two days in a row. Fourth Master Xiao had only been gone for three days... Yet life had to go on even in his absence. She was the head lady, and everyone in the house was watching her. If she were to be lethargic all day, it would make everyone uneasy...
She looked apologetically at Min, nodded, and smiled, "Did you come to find me? Is there something you need?"
"Yes." Min nodded, somewhat puzzled, "Mother, Xing wants to go back, when can we visit Grandmother?"
Grand Dowager... She didn’t know when she would be able to see her either.
Yet it reminded her of something else. Xiqiu couldn’t help but say, "The Grand Dowager and your Second Uncle have gone on a trip; it might be a few days before they return." Pausing, she held Min’s hand and walked while saying, "I’ll invite Mr. Song over here, so your classes won’t be delayed for the next few days. What do you think?" With daily lessons, the two children would have something to do and not let their minds wander.
Min had no objections and immediately nodded, smiling, "Okay, we miss Mr. Song as well."
Xiqiu laughed and turned to instruct Chunliu, "Later, have Tiancheng make a trip to bring Mr. Song over. Arrange two rooms in the outer court, and if Mr. Song needs anything, have Nanny Rong handle it."
"Understood," Chunliu replied, supporting Xiqiu as they returned. Xiqiu and Min went to Min’s courtyard, where Xing and Erquan were squatting in the yard, playing. Erquan’s hands were red from the cold, molding clay, while Xing was watching intently. When Xiqiu entered, Xing stood up abruptly, running towards Xiqiu, with the nanny and several maids chasing him like butterflies, trailing behind. Xiqiu was also startled, yelling, "Don’t run, don’t run!"
Ruan Jingliu had specifically instructed that Xing wasn’t allowed to engage in strenuous activity for these few days, not even running.
Xiqiu hurried forward to catch him, saying, "You need to be good for these few days, don’t move around or run, understand?" Xing nodded with a grin, then pointed back at Erquan, saying, "Erquan is molding clay figures, and they’re really nice."
Upon hearing this, Xiqiu couldn’t help but look over at Erquan, who bowed to her and hid his blackened hands behind his back, smiling rather sheepishly, "Madam, I’m just molding randomly."
"Go wash your hands and warm up inside." Leading Xing by the hand, she said, "It’s cold now; when it gets warmer, you can mold clay figures again."
Xing immediately nodded in agreement and told Erquan, "Go wash your hands; don’t get frostbite."
Erquan responded and ran to the back of the yard to wash his hands.
Xiqiu led Xing by one hand and Min by the other into the house, then turned into Min’s study. The day before, Xing had moved in, and Xiqiu had arranged for the side room in Min’s courtyard to be prepared for Xing to stay. With the two living together, they would have company. Inside the study, on the desk, were unfinished calligraphy exercises and a few sheets of crooked writing. Xiqiu sat down in the chair and explained to Xing the same thing she had told Min earlier, "What do you think?"
A shadow crossed Xing’s face for a moment, and his expression fell, standing with hands at his sides, his voice muffled, "Aunt, is Grandmother sick?" He paused, raising his head with reddened eyes, "I promise, when I go back, I won’t bother Grandmother while she’s recovering!"
"No, no!" Xiqiu shook her head, pulling Xing to her side, stroking his head, "Grandmother and your father went out for business. They left in a hurry, so they didn’t have time to tell you. They might take some time to return. It’s not like what you think; Grandmother is in good health, so don’t let your thoughts run wild, okay?"
Xing seemed uncertain, and Xiqiu continued, "Your Aunt has never lied to you!"
Xing thought for a moment, then nodded, "Alright. I’ll wait patiently for Grandmother to come back." He then paused and asked, "Are you really bringing Mr. Song over?"
Xiqiu nodded affirmatively.
Xing looked over at Min, and the two children quickly forgot their previous sadness, exchanging mischievous glances with laughter.
Xiqiu sat with them a while longer before she returned to the main room, where Nanny Cen had come back. Upon seeing her, Xiqiu asked, "Did they leave? What did they say?"
"They left!" Nanny Cen replied, "Madam Ren was alright, but Third Young Madam Ren’s complexion wasn’t too good. In front of me, she said..." She paused, glancing at Xiqiu, who smiled and said, "Go on!"
Nanny Cen thought for a moment, then replied, "Third Young Madam Ren’s words were quite sarcastic, saying that madam had been pampered since childhood and became even more precious now that she’s pregnant. A few days ago, she could see other people, and today she’s feeling unwell when they came..."
The implication was clear.
Xiqiu merely shook her head upon hearing it. Tong Xiyang was always like this. She had expected her words to be even harsher, but today they were somewhat restrained.
She really couldn’t do anything about Ren Jun’s matter. Even Madam Ren had no solution, so what good method could she possibly have? Ren Jun’s fate and the survival of the Wujin Bo Mansion were now all in the Emperor’s hands. What could one possibly do!
