Chapter 13 - Margaret

"Who is this woman by President Luiss' side?" Margaret, an assistant to a member of Luiss's team, nudged Steven.

The party was organized in the same skyscraper, and the reception hall was larger and more luxurious, with long mirror panels on the wall. Guests started gathering early. The important guests arrived when the sun sank on the horizon and stars started dominating the night sky.

"You don't recognize her?" Steven was amused.

"Don't tell me it's really her." Margarate's voice cracked. She was Steven's assistant. Luiss disliked keeping close female staff, but his staff mostly had female assistants.

"It's Ariana; Ariana Grey, who gave a killer presentation and stole the limelight today," Steven answered with a light laugh, but one could pick out jealousy in his tone. He glanced at Margarate, who looked like she had something biting her.

Ariana always appeared in formal attire. So until now, no one could have guessed what was hidden beneath that black suit and tie. But after today, everyone gotta remember that there was much more to the President's secretary other than her strict nature and efficiency. When it comes to clothing taste or natural beauty, she didn't lag behind at all.

"Don't worry. Drink up, and take some cocktails. Let's loosen up a bit. After all, we won today. And we'll be compensated greatly." Though he said so, he had already ignited the spark in Margarate's heart that would prompt her to light a fire.

As Ariana walked inside with her arm in Liam's, interlocked, she was immediately the centre of attention. The type of attention the previous Ariel dreamt of having but was never comfortable or bold enough to pursue it.

Yet she maintained her composure.

Luiss kept her close. He introduced her to all the important guests, tasking her to memorise their names for the future.

In the gathering of rivals, Luiss and Gerald belonged to different classes. It looked like everyone was mixing up, but there was a subtle difference Margarate noticed. The staff had their own circle, and the employers had their own circle. the line between the owners and the servants. But there she was, Ariana Grey, who was supposed to be in their circle, but she stood proudly in the upper class circle.

Since the party invited important guests from competing corporations, Luiss and Gerald threw away their grudges and demonstrated a bond of trust and friendship.

"Rosaline, I have a task for you." Gerald excused himself from some important guests. Immediately, his smile disappeared as he took Rosaline to a silent corner and reminded her.

"Gerald... I know. It's just that bitch has stuck up by Luiss side. I can't find an opening to approach him." Rosaline wasn't much interested in Luiss. He was handsome, no doubt. But he was just not her type.

Her approach towards him had been prompted upon Gerald's insistence,

But this time, when she saw how Ariana had stolen the limelight once again, resentment lit hr heart.

"I'll take care of her. You must get under his blanket before midnight." Gerald warned before departing, donning the same charismatic smile of his.

There was not much distance between Ariana and Luiss, and she was wondering whether should she initiate the softness buff. It was when she noticed Rosaline whispering something to a waiter.

The waiter was a young boy. He looked nervous. Knowing that every person here belonged to some top tier family, he looked distressed. But Rosalne had a way with words. Ariana had no idea what he was promised, but she noticed the boy walking in her direction.

Her mind worked swiftly, and just as the waiter approached them with a tray holding cocktails, she stepped on his toe with her pencil heel.

The waiter screamed and spilt the tray at Ariana. However, Ariana stepped aside and avoided being splashed over—the cocktails were aimed at the person behind her, who unfortunately happened to be Luiss.

"What the fuck!"

In the original story, Ariana's white shirt was ruined, and she obstinately accused Rosaline without any evidence. The ruckus made the collaboration party between Luiss and Gerald look like a joke to the world. And an unreasonable grudge had been set in Luiss heart.

"I'm so sorry." The young boy, realizing he had spilled it over someone important, was quickly on his knees. "I didn't mean to. It's just this lady stepped-"

"Are you saying I deliberately stepped on your toe to have you spill cocktails on my President?" Ariel widened her eyes.

"N--No, I didn't meann-" Knowing that he could not reveal either Rosaline or Ariana, he knew he had to accept the blame.

"Nonsesne. Your aggrieved face was saying so."

"I wasn't careful. I slipped. I'm so sorry" He cried out in distress.

"That's more like it." Ariana shamelessly shrugged.

"Oh my God, President Luiss." Rosaline didn't miss the opportunity, and Ariana, being gracious,s stepped back and let her have her chance with Luiss. "Let us find new clothes for you. I'll accompany you to the changing room."

The solidarity between Luiss and Gerald was emphasized in front of the blood. Roslaine got her chance to get close to the male lead. Luiss got a chess piece he was gonna play. And no one suffered anything.

We could call this a happy event.

Ariel gleefully took a cocktail when she felt frost at the back of her neck. She tilted her head to the side and witnessed the furious face of Luiss, who had ruined his favourite Rolex.

Oops, she forgot to add. One person did suffer, who happened to be President Luiss.

But it was just a small spill. He shouldn't be too angry about it, right?

The stabbing glare told her otherwise.
