Chapter 40 - Killer presentation

Margarate awaited Ariana to arrive in the conference room. As the assistant to Steven, she stood by his side, holding a notepad. Both Steven and Margarete didn't share positive thoughts towards Ariana. Especially after the last time when they openly stood against her during Alexander's little rebellion.

Their open antagonism was known to all so they had to maintain the act.

"Ariana had been preparing till late for the briefing." He commented quietly, his voice only reaching Margarate.

Margarate who knew the truth, smiled viciously. "She is not going to come."

Steven looked at her. "Why do you think so."

"I heard from the reception lady that she had spilt ink over the Voss corporation preposition; the original irreplaceable documents."

"Is that true?" Steven smiled in schadenfreude.

"Yes," Margarate said. "Pity she worked so hard for this skyline project and they gonna slip out of company hands because of her inadequacy."

"Pride hath a fall. I have told you she is too arrogant for her own good." Steven remembered yesterday he went to President Luiss' office to submit some documents, she was sitting not far from President Luiss, in his office. The news of it had spread in the company like wildfire along with the speculations on President Luiss and Ariana's relationship.

Ariana was favoured.

Especially after her recent appearance at the collaboration party with Gerald groups and her rapid win during Alexander's rebellion, she was the hot topic of gossip.

And as one of the senior subjects of the Luiss Groups, Steven didn't like that.

As the clock ticked in, Margarate spread the rumour to the side by assistants of executive staff regarding Ariana's mishap.

"Look at it the time gone way above the conference timing."

"Where is she?"

"Why is she so late?"

"The rumour must be true then?"

Steven catching the wind of the air, stood up. "I guess it is clear now that Ms. Grey is not coming. We should—"

"What made you so certain Mr. Steven" A confident voice reverberated across the conference room. She walked with her head high, balanced steps and shoulders squared. There wasn't a bit of reluctance as she made her way across the conference room to the head position.

"My apologies for being late..." She said whilst setting her USB in the screen projector. "I was giving a final touch so all of you can understand it with ease." She went to the screen and with a small confident smile, started the presentation.

By the end of it, everyone was convinced that Ariana indeed did the right job by choosing the skyline project. Once they were thoroughly convinced, those who objectified and rallied against the decision were shunned by everyone especially Steven and his assistant, Margarate.

Upon giving the final statement, Arian eyes met Margarate and a small knowing smile formed over her lips.

No one noticed but Margarate did and she realized it that moment Ariana knew.

Her hands trembled and she got nervous.

After all, she was just an assistant.

From the moment Ariana had started the briefing in a confident resonant tone Steven and Margarate's expressions worsened. As she went on and won more and more people, their expressions became uglier. Finally at the end of it, when they were shunned by everyone, Steven found it wise to leave the premises.

David approached Ariana. "This skyline project indeed looks promising." He said with a smile and with a look as if he was proud of her, he said. "Good job."

"Promising or not, it all depends on our task force performance."

"I believe we will ace it."

"I hope so."

David couldn't help but notice that the Ariana right now was way different from the past. In the past, Ariana was shallow and focused solely on maintaining an arrogant, unapproachable image. The current Ariana was a hard worker who stood up for what she believed in. There was only the right amount of confidence in her. And she truly appeared to be working in the best interest of the company.

"Hey, are you free this afternoon? Let's head somewhere for lunch," Out of a sudden David said.

Ariana froze, interested in looking at relationship stats with David. It was in positives, Ariana was certain of. But had it reached the point where they could be friends?

"I'm sorry I've plans with someone for today."

"Suits yourself." David shrugged not thinking much of it.

She went back to the office.

"I listened to your briefing through CCTV. That was commendable." Luiss prasied her.
