Transmigrated: The Lycan King's Pet-Chapter 404 The Test of Love
(Ember POV)
I felt myself drifting downward in a vast ocean. My lungs were filled, I couldn’t breathe, nor could I hear or see.
My six senses were gone as if I had become nothing but my own thoughts. It was suffocating, and it was more unbearable not being able to pull myself out of the water.
Slowly, I began to accept my fate... believing this was the end of me.
A voice whispered softly close to my ears, ’a voice’ my closed eyes twitched slightly.
"Wake up."
The moment I heard the words my eyes snapped open, and the next second I was pulled out of the water.
I squinted my eyes at the sudden brightness. The sweet smell of flowers invaded my nostrils filling my lungs. The warmth of the sun felt so nice and real, the fresh breeze caressed my skin, soft and light like a feather.
I inhaled deeply, it felt like forever since I last felt this way.
"Ember..."
"Do you like what you see?..."
"I love you..."
"Our child..."
"I’ll protect you.."
Fragments of memories began fitting into my head like a puzzle.
My breath became heavier as a pain shot through me, and the memories of my life flickered through my eyes.
From my life as an heiress to my transmigration to the Werewolf’s realm. And then to the Fae’s realm and the witches’ realm.
Tears trickled down my cheeks, hot against my skin.
Everything... everything I did, the lives I lived, the fight to change my fate, Damon... everything was pointless.
I returned to the same place as the beginning. ’So this is how it ends. We strive for the best in our lives, and I strive to be with the one I love, but how sad it is to watch a beautiful dream I once had fade away?’
I walked aimlessly around the large field of flowers, the smell becoming more of a torment than the serenity they offered.
I didn’t just die, I died with my unborn child.
I continued walking, my eyes growing vacant with every step. I just wanted to go home, maybe I could finally have some rest.
I wandered the field, and the soft grass now felt like thorns under my feet. Perhaps it was the bitterness in my heart. But it was too late, there was no way I could undo what had been done.
’I wish I could see him again.’
The more I walked, the farther the field became... Was I going home? I wandered.
"Ember," a voice echoed from behind me.
My feet halted. I slowly turned around. Behold, a woman with long golden blonde hair stood before me. Her white dress swayed slightly.
Her golden eyes held warmth, mystery, and love. She felt familiar and unfamiliar at the same time.
"Who are you?" I asked. Even my voice sounded strange to me as if there was no longer life in it.
"Someone who can give you a second chance to live again." She said with a faint smile.
"What do you mean?" My brows creased slightly.
"Don’t you feel it?" She asked, her words carrying profundity. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
’Feel what?’
Thud. Thud. Thud.
My heartbeat echoed in my ears. My eyes widened, stunned. I walked closer to her, I didn’t know if I should be glad or not.
"You gave me a heart?" I asked.
She nodded her head.
I paused for a moment to process what was happening. Does that mean I would no longer be dead? That Damon and I could grow old together? That I could finally achieve my dream? A second chance?
A smile broke on my lips. "Thank you very much," I said with my deepest sincerity.
"There is one thing you must know." She said, her smile disappearing from her face.
"The heart inside you now, belongs to your mate, Damon." She said, and everything inside me shattered.
I shook my head. "No, take it back. Take the heart back, I don’t want him to exchange his life for me. Please take it back." I broke into sobs, falling to my butt.
My fingers scratched against my chest, but without my wolf, I was nothing but a human.
"Would you rather give this chance away?" She asked with a displeased look. "Think about it again."
"I said no, I can’t bear to watch him die because of me. I can’t let him die because of me." I muttered like a broken tape, pleading for her to reverse it.
"Why?" she asked.
I looked at her. "Because I love him."
She lowered her head, remaining silent for a moment. Then she raised her head again. "You have passed the test."
"What test?" I asked, curiosity burning in the depths of my eyes.
"If you had been selfish and wanted to return to life, Damon would have lost his life." She paused.
"Passing the test of love, meant being willing to sacrifice yourself for your loved one. And now that you did... You both will live.
However, you will lose your magic." She said, her voice becoming distant.
"What do you mean?" I muttered.
"You have passed the test, Ember." She replied with a kind smile.
"Your magic will serve as a seed in your stead... this is the only way the universe can repay you and Damon for your pain and selflessness." Her voice grew farther and farther.
Before I could speak, she had already disappeared.
The world around me changed to the familiar waterfall scenery.
I walked towards the spot Damon and I had watched the scenery, my steps quickened, and then it turned into a spring the moment I saw Damon’s back facing me.
"Damon!" I yelled.
He turned around with a stunned expression. Those eyes like black ink were the same as always, his black raven hair slightly disheveled.
Without holding back I leaped into his arms. His strong arms caught me by my waist, pressing my body against his.
My legs bent slightly up in the air, as he swirled me around.
Then, he slowly put me down. My eyes locked with his as my arms tightened around his neck. He pressed his forehead against mine.
"Damon..." My lips trembled. "I miss you," I said, tears streaming down my cheeks.
"I miss you more." He said, his voice hoarse, and heavy with emotion.
He pressed his lips against mine.
The wind blew past us, scattering pink cherry blossoms above us.
