Transmigrated to a Dark Fantasy World of SSS-Rank: King of the Void-Chapter 27: Mystery Hidden Within
Mitsuki couldn’t help but make a displeased face at that comment. Remembering the things Jeanne had said and done so far, it was better not to take her seriously.
"I’m joking, man. Don’t get so scared," Jeanne said while laughing. "Do you really fear me that much? You’re making me feel bad, you know? I’m not going to eat you or anything like that."
"It’s not that..."
He brought a hand to his head, trying not to waste energy getting nervous.
’Even though the idea of sleeping with a cute girl sounds nice and I like it, I don’t think I have the stomach to deal with Jeanne...’
Ellegaard struck her staff against the floor, interrupting.
"It will be one room for each of you. As for Jeanne, lock her door with arcane chains and leave her trapped there for the rest of her short human life."
"Hey... I don’t want to be the locked-up princess. There are already too many of those."
"I don’t care."
Lulú smiled awkwardly. The expression on her face already revealed how many times she had dealt with these women before. Still, she sighed, calming herself, and said:
"Well, in that case, you can take your usual rooms. Here are the keys."
She took the keys out of the pocket of her apron and handed them to Ellegaard. The elf looked at them for a moment, then separated them and tossed one to Mitsuki.
"Here, newbie. Catch."
"Huh? What? Woah!"
The key fell into his butterfingers, almost dropping straight to the floor. He managed to steady himself after that and grabbed the key tightly.
’There was no need to throw it like that...’
"Then I’ll head to my room. I want to rest and get away from this lunatic," Ellegaard said. "I’ll come down for dinner, so you already know what to prepare today, girl."
"I know, Miss Ellegaard."
Without saying anything else, the elf went up the stairs beside the reception desk with complete naturalness. Jeanne watched her go and then turned to Mitsuki.
"I’m going to rest too. I want to change my clothes and polish my armor. Don’t you want to come with me, Mitsuki?"
"I... want to rest alone for a while. I still haven’t fully recovered from the Banshee’s attack. I mean, my soul was almost torn out, and it was the most horrible experience of my life..."
Just remembering it sent chills down his spine.
"That’s fine. You’ll get used to having your soul, blood, or other things sucked out. It’ll be fun, so get plenty of rest."
’That doesn’t sound very fun to me...’
After that, Jeanne went up the stairs until she disappeared from Mitsuki’s field of view. He was left alone with Lulú, who was looking at him with a kind smile. The silence that followed was uncomfortable—not only because Mitsuki couldn’t bring himself to leave immediately, but also because he didn’t know where to go.
Talking to strangers was still very difficult as well, but, as always, he tried with all his strength.
"Um... Could you tell me which room I’m supposed to go to?"
She answered politely.
"Of course. The key Miss Ellegaard gave you is for the sixth room on the left side of the hallway after you go up the stairs."
"I see. Thank you."
He made a small bow to show respect and went up the stairs as quickly as he could. He couldn’t stand being surrounded by people anymore. He followed the hallway until the sixth room and inserted the key into the lock of the brown door. He sighed in relief when it opened.
’Finally, a little time alone.’
He opened the door, and what he found was more normal than he expected. There was a small, comfortable bed covered with clean white sheets. On the right side stood a wooden wardrobe and an empty desk. There were a few new candles on the dark-colored desk and clean towels as well.
Without thinking twice, he took off his coat, leaving it at the foot of the bed, locked the door with the latch, and threw himself face-first onto the bed. That was when he realized the bed wasn’t as soft as it looked, but it was still better than sleeping on the dirt floor or inside the carriage.
He turned over, staring at the ceiling.
’At times like this, I’d really like to have a handheld console with infinite battery... I could play Battlecraft all day...’
He raised his arm, looking at the tattoo. It was the closest thing to a real-life game he had.

’I learned how to control water thanks to Ellegaard, but when I tried to learn control over other elements, it became much more difficult.’
Two weeks of battles and training had borne fruit, but aside from combat, his progress had stalled.

[ You have equipped the "Ancient Locket". ]
[ You have equipped the "Prince Arthur’s Testament". ]
’On the other hand, these things make no sense. The supposed testament is empty, and the locket only has a small lock of brown hair inside. There’s nothing that tells me about Holylight’s past or the reason for my Transmigration.’
The mystery was hidden within them, yet he had no way of deciphering it.
’There are still things I need to test. Viktor, the shapeshifting sword—I haven’t managed to find any use for it. Since it’s a sword, it should be a close-range weapon, but it can also change form.’

[ You have equipped "Viktor, the Shapeshifting Sword" (Firearm Form). ]
A short sword materialized in his hand, wrapped in ash. It looked more like a slightly oversized double-edged black dagger, with a silver hilt and a pommel shaped like a black rose.
’I don’t know how to activate it...’
He tried a couple of times, but nothing worked. Frustrated, he stored the sword and closed his eyes.
’Before continuing the journey, I need to find a way to keep increasing my power.’
Eventually, he fell asleep.
His memories began to move within his mind, flowing like a long, wide river that split further and further at the edges of each recollection. He flowed along with the water, sinking into the darkness with his eyes closed.
He traveled to a very distant memory, where a mysterious young maiden smiled with the expression of a woman in love. She extended her hand and took Mitsuki’s hand. She spoke, saying a name—but it was not his.
She said:
"Arthur."
Mitsuki suddenly opened his eyes. It was already late at night. His body was drenched in sweat, and he felt deeply confused. He sat up in bed as if he didn’t know where he was, and a couple of tears rolled down his cheeks.
’Is this what happiness feels like...?’
He wondered—an emotion traveling through a time long lost.
