Transmigrated to a Dark Fantasy World of SSS-Rank: King of the Void-Chapter 46: The Herald of the Unnameable [2]
The particles swirled in rhythm with the movements of Ellegaard’s magic staff, taking the shape of landscapes, ruined castles, and snow-covered places that didn’t seem real. And so, the historian known by the noble surname Witherbark began the tale of the ancient prophecy.
"Many years ago, when the humans of the Lands of Nemoria were at war; when the ’spawn of the night’ still ruled the darkness of the Land of Ebonthyr; when the waters of Galilea still flowed peacefully before the age of the eternal rain, and when the Land of Helios still bore the blessed light of the gods, four great oracles had a vision of the future."
The particles danced, taking the form of four distinct beings: a fairy—a humanoid creature with colorful butterfly wings—, a four-armed giant—four serene eyes and a lethal presence—, an elf—an ancient and mysterious being of the forest—, and a demi-human with fox ears and nine tails—hidden within a temple behind torii gates.
Mitsuki’s eyes shone with excitement as he watched the representations. Even though they were silhouettes of light, they looked like astonishing fantasy beings. Unfortunately, he didn’t have time to marvel at the mysteries of the world, as the story was only just beginning.
Everyone paid close attention to the elf.
"It was a day like any other, you could say, but it was not so for these oracles. What they saw was an ill omen sent directly from the great mystery of the universe, which in turn afflicted them with incurable conditions."
The figures shifted, adopting postures of agony.
"No matter how far apart the four oracles were in their respective lands, through the agony of their illness, they cried out the prophecy that condemned us forever."
Mitsuki felt a chill run through his left forearm. He lifted his sleeve to see what it was, but his eyes widened in horror. The system was giving him a message—it was the same thing Ellegaard was saying at that very moment.
[ Misfortune will fall upon our world and grow as it silently watches us. At first, no one will be able to see it, but its presence will grow stronger and stronger until it can no longer be contained.
The herald of the one whose name was lost at the dawn of creation will come from beyond the stars to judge us; an aberrant being of true darkness who will sink its sharp claws into both the innocent and the guilty.
Its four powers will spread across the world as calamities no one can avoid, taking the shape of the darkness within people’s hearts. Thus, the disaster will bury itself deep within the Ley Lines, slowly corrupting everything we know.
When the Herald of the Nameless claims its first power, the end of the world as we know it will have begun.
Not even the remaining gods will be able to stop it, for the punishment is meant for them as well. However, do not despair, for there is still hope in the shadow of solitude.
The Herald has a very fragile heart; its tears are the answer.
Find it and save it.
And if you cannot save it from the misery of our world, when the Ash has consumed the first line, kill it. These are the only two options to overcome the disaster. ]
The light formed by the particles twisted, revealing a deep, dark abyss where the silhouette of a faceless, nameless person sank while ethereal hands and mysterious tentacles embraced them with both tenderness and cruelty.
That silhouette had tears on its face. It was alone in the shadows, with no one who could save it from the misfortune its very existence would bring—one that would reduce to ashes what once was...
Mitsuki’s gaze darkened as he finished reading what his tattoo was telling him.
Ellegaard continued.
"No one knows what that monster that will bring an end to our story will look like, but this is the only description we have of it, for the oracles died from their illness without being able to tell us exactly how we should save or kill the Herald of the Unnameable." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
"Besides, at first, not many believed in the prophecy," Aslan added. "But when the Four Great Ancient Mysteries appeared across the four lands, there was no longer any room for doubt."
"From that moment on, the world lived in fear. However, a few generations later, that fear began to fade, as the Herald had not appeared for the last two hundred years. Many started to believe it would never appear, so a few years later, they simply stopped thinking about it."
Jeanne sighed. "My father told me that story many times... A story that, over the years, had become nothing more than a legend... It’s funny how people can keep living even with danger lurking in the shadows."
"That’s something you should ask yourself," Ellegaard said. "You’re the very image of what you just described."
"Ellegaard... I’m not here for your ridiculous irony."
The elf shook her head in disappointment. She looked at Lulú, and the girl turned the lights back on.
"The point of all this is that we need to make sure what those Shadow Idiots are saying is true and not a lie."
"For that, we would have to sacrifice far too much time," Aslan said, taking a sip from his cup of tea.
Meanwhile, Mitsuki was left breathless. The tattoo had shown something else.
[ The world whispers your story. ]
That made Mitsuki panic as he shrank into his seat.
’The system... This can’t be real. That so-called Herald can’t be me. I mean, there’s no way I’d destroy an entire world! I can’t even kill a fly, and they think I’d bring about the end of the world?! That makes no sense...’
He shut his eyes tightly, and when he opened them again, he looked at the titles section in his system.
’I just remembered! If I were the Herald of the Unnameable—someone the whole world has been talking about—then that title should appear here, but it doesn’t. So there’s no reason for anyone to kill me right now, right?’
"Are you okay, Mitsuki?" Jeanne asked, touching his shoulder.
Ellegaard cut in. "Listen, rookie. We’re going back to Nemoria to investigate this case. We can’t let those Shadow Worms make these kinds of claims and get away with it. So I suppose this is goodbye."
"What?"
