Transmigrated To Ancient Time: Thrive With An Auction System!-Chapter 241: A Promiscuous Woman ( 3 )
Ling Shi’er took a sniff at his palms after he washed his hands and noticed the faint fragrance of flowers. Since he was young, he was raised with a mindset that a man shouldn’t have anything to do with delicate things like flowers.
He always thought that he disliked fragrant water. Unexpectedly, after he smelled the flower scent, he didn’t dislike it at all. Instead, he felt that it smelled nice.
Not knowing what he was thinking, Yao Zhi scooped a big bowl of steamed rice for him and said, "I cooked a lot, so eat to your fill."
Ling Shi’er looked at the white steamed rice and said, "Thank you, Master."
Yao Zhi nodded and scooped up two spoonfuls of mapo tofu for him and said, "You are welcome."
The two of them ate in silence and finished the meal in less than 20 minutes. After they were done, Ling Shi’er cleaned up the table and washed the dishes while Yao Zhi returned to her room.
She wiped her body with a wet towel and washed her face with warm water. Then, she changed into a set of clean clothes.
Opening her system’s storage, she took out two portions of a thousand-layer steamed cake, totaling 10 pieces. This cake was made using flour, sugar, salt, oil, and milk for the dough. Then it was layered with salted egg yolk custard.
The dough was similar to the dough used to make steamed buns. It tasted mildly sweet, fluffy, and soft. There was a hint of savory, fragrant, and nutty undertone from the oil and fillings.
Each piece was big enough for her to have four to five bites. So, 10 pieces were enough for the Village Chief’s family to share.
She placed the cake on a bamboo plate and put it into a bamboo basket. When she was done, she left the room and locked it. "Shi’er, are you done?"
Not long after, Ling Shi’er walked out from the backyard and said, "Master, I’m done."
"Let’s go."
Yao Zhi locked the gate and walked to the Village Chief’s house, followed by Ling Shi’er. As they walked, the villagers stared at them. Most of them whispered to each other while some of them pointed at her directly.
She was used to this and ignored them, but Ling Shi’er frowned and stared at the villagers coldly.
When they met his sharp eyes, the villagers quickly averted their gaze. No one dared to talk about them openly, but it didn’t stop the rumor of Yao Zhi bringing back a man from spreading.
Twenty minutes later, they arrived at the Village Chief’s house. With the cold weather, the entire family was resting at home.
Yao Zhi knocked on the gate and called out, "Village Chief, are you at home?"
A few minutes later, Yang Sanlang opened the gate. When he saw Yao Zhi, his eyes lit up instantly. But the moment his gaze landed on Ling Shi’er, his eyes darkened, and he scrutinized him from head to toe.
It was common for the citizens of the Great Yan Kingdom to hate foreigners, especially the barbarians.
Ling Shi’er and his brothers were war captives from one of the barbarian tribes. Although they had distinct features, they shared similar skin tone and body build. Therefore, it was easy for the villagers to know that he was a barbarian.
Seeing Yang Sanlang’s unfriendly gaze, Yao Zhi thought that he hated barbarians and didn’t put this matter in her heart. Smiling at him, she asked, "Brother Dalang, is the Village Chief at home?"
Yang Sanlang nodded and stepped aside to let her in. "My father is inside. Please come in."
Yao Zhi nodded and walked into the house. Ling Shi’er followed after her. Even when a sharp gaze was aimed at his back, he was still as calm as usual.
The Village Chief heard her voice and came out. Seeing a foreign man, he said, "Yao Girl, you are here."
"Village Chief, I hope I didn’t disturb you and your family," Yao Zhi greeted him with a smile.
After they took their seats, the Village Chief glanced at Ling Shi’er and asked, "Yao Girl, do you need anything?"
Yao Zhi placed the bamboo basket on the table and said, "Village Chief, I made some cake and want you to have a taste."
Afterward, she took out Ling Shi’er’s slave deed from her sleeve and showed it to him. "At the same time, I want to inform you about my newly bought guard."
When the Village Chief and his son saw the deed, their gazes toward Ling Shi’er held disdain and a hint of hatred. Even though they were not harmed by the barbarians directly, they knew that the barbarians killed a lot of people and plundered their homeland.
Now that they were faced with a slave captured from the war, they were not afraid. Instead, they wished that they could vent their hatred and avenge those people who were killed by them.
Noticing their hatred, Yao Zhi quickly said, "Village Chief, I spent a lot of money to buy him. He is not only a skilled martial artist, but he also knows how to farm."
Hearing this, the Village Chief knew that she was reminding them not to cause trouble for this barbarian. Even if he was a slave, if he wanted to kill them, no one could stop him.
After a moment of silence, he asked, "Yao Girl, why did you suddenly think of buying a slave?"
"Village Chief, you know that I plan to cultivate the farmland and raise fish. So I need someone to guard the land. He knows martial arts and knows how to farm."
"At night, he will be the one responsible for guarding my ponds and farmland. This way, when Brother Dalang takes the position as the manager, he doesn’t have to worry about thieves breaking into my land and stealing something."
When they heard her words, they suddenly realized that what she did was actually to lessen the burden of Yang Dalang. Reaching this conclusion, their hatred toward Ling Shi’er lessened.
The Village Chief nodded and said, "What’s his name?"
